Wait... what just happened??? Two brown fish owls, one big, one small. Big one has a large frog in its mouth and shows no intention of consuming it. Naturally we thought it would feed it to the smaller one and even the other owl may have had the same thought, since it was funny to see as if it was licking its chops. Some interesting activities taking place in this video. This is a brown fish owl. One is the rapid movement of the throat area. (this video is four times slowed down). This action is referred to as gular fluttering and it is mean to dissipate heat. Basically a cooling mechanism and I have done a small video about it in the past. The second one is the movement of the nictitating membrane. The transparent or the translucent horizontal eyelid that is there to protect and to moisten the eyes. . . .
