what’s the ‘hating each other’ arc in botw? (why are zelda and link beefing with each other)

They weren’t beefing, it was one-sided on Zelda’s part temporarily

Her father put an insane amount of pressure on her shoulders for her to unlock her sacred powers immediately but she wasn’t able to so she was constantly called a failure

Link, on the other hand, has been renowned for his prowess in sword arts since childhood and pulled the master sword when he was young

He unintentionally resembled what Zelda should have been in her eyes and she saw him as the embodiment of all her failures due to the environment she was in, which Urbosa herself actually spoke about (who’s a mother-figure to Zelda)

Zelda snapped at him once but it was relatively minor and he canonically never held it against her due to him understanding the extreme pressures of her situation, especially from someone who also experiences said pressures, and any other times they initially interacted with one another she just kinda ignored him or tried to avoid him

So when fans say they had a “hating arc” (or in extreme cases, that Zelda was “abusive” towards Link which is actually unhinged lmao), it’s more an exaggeration of the truth

She apologized for her treatment of him and they got to know each other, resulting in them each being the closest friend either of them have in canon

I do think the arc was important for each of them to understand and connect together as people, since relationships have hurdles and sometimes some conflict is needed to grow
