The beautiful and timeless lavalier! This style pendant has been a staple of jewelry fashion for centuries. The defining characteristic is a single gem hanging from the bottom--often a pearl or a diamond. . The name is believed to to have been created in honor of Duchess Louise de La Vallière--mistress to King Louis XIV. Others erroneously attributed the name to French actress Ève Lavallière.
