some thoughts on knb street rivals now that i've had it for a few days:
tl;dr i'm enjoying it but ngl i do not recommend it (or at least i do not recommend spending in it)
so it's a high-ish maintenance game imo. i consider gachas low-maintenance when you can do the dailies in like 5-10 minutes on autoplay, and there's no autoplay here
daily tasks and guild missions both involve playing a few rounds of basketball (which, fair, it is the knb game after all lol) among other things
guild missions are mostly about playing ranked matches, which are three minutes or longer if the score is tied at the buzzer
tasks can be completed by playing anything, doesn't have to be ranked, but there's a "get mvp/svp 3 times" mission which can be hard in 3-on-3 (at least for me... skill issue, i know)
but that task can be cheesed by playing 1-on-1 once you unlock it, because in 1-on-1 you'll either be mvp when you win or svp when you lose lmao
currently only three chapters (or parts) of the story are out, and for now the only playable characters are from seirin and kaijou. the story 'games' are more like tutorials, and there's no reward for repeating them (only a first-clear reward)
there's essentially no pve in this game, it's all pvp
as for the gacha... to be honest it is a little bastard! first of all the rates are atrocious, 0.02% chance of pulling the item you need to redeem a character unlock card (kise rn) and pity is at 200 pulls
what's extra ass is the card that unlocks the character and the cards that upgrade character skills look almost identical, need to be careful when redeeming/buying lol
but main issue there is the honestly appalling rates
as for skins, some are free from events, but most need to be bought with a premium currency that (at least for now) can only be obtained by cash purchases
(gacha pulls use gems which can be earned as f2p, though not very quickly)
despite the negatives! i actually like the gameplay, i can see it getting stale for me after a while, but it's a smooth and enjoyable experience so far. all the characters have a (relatively) unique set of skills, so it takes time to learn to play them (as well as play against them) and that makes things interesting
basically, egregious monetization and terrible gacha but not a bad basketball minigame (there's no stamina system, so you can always play whenever you want and however much you want)
