Eurovision 1988 my top 21

Hello and welcome to another episode of this ESC top series, and I go back to April 30, 1988 when the 33rd edition of this contest was held in Dublin, Ireland, after Johnny Logan’s victory in Brussels last year. 21 countries took part, Cyprus submitted a song but it was disqualified because it infringed the rules of the ESC, the song was submitted for the Cypriot NF in 1984, finished 3rd and then it was submitted again 4 years later and won, weird. Anyway, the winner this year was Switzerland and with a MARVELOUS and young unknown singer called Céline Dion with the song Ne partez pas sans moi, and what a career she made after the contest, and went to become one of my favorite singers ever. And now let’s review the songs.

1st Place: SWITZERLAND/Céline Dion-Ne partez pas sans moi (Real Placing: 1st-137 points)

I was so amazed when I discovered Céline Dion participated in Eurovision, and won, and this song is AJSHFJFKSLLA IMPRESSIVE LOVELY WONDERFUL... I can’t describe this one, her voice is as always, superb and excellent. This is one of my favorite winners ever and of course, this deserved to win and with a bigger margin than it had.

2nd Place: SWEDEN/Tommy Körberg-Stad i ljus (Real Placing: =12th-52 points)

I’M IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG, he’s such a terrific singer, even though he was sick here, the music is wonderful and anthemic and I have no words to describe my love for this song, the lyrics are beautiful and touching and the performance was so professional, way better than his 1969 song.

3rd Place: LUXEMBOURG/Lara Fabian-Croire (Real Placing: 4th-90 points)

Oh this year also has Lara Fabian, another wonderful singer with a successful career and with a super voice, this song is magical and I don’t know why this makes me cry, the music is very good and her vocals here are amazing, such a nice song and so pleasant. Also this was the last top 10 result for Luxembourg until their withdrawal in 1994.

4th Place: NORWAY/Karoline Krüger-For vår jord (Real Placing: 5th-88 points)

Again another nice song from Norway, this ballad is very nice, the music is amazing and Karoline sure has a nice voice, she sing the song so delicately and sweetly, one of the most enjoyable and calm songs of the year.

5th Place: DENMARK/Hot Eyes-Ka' du se hva' jeg sa'? (Real Placing: 3rd-92 points)

Oh yeah Denmark!!! Another nice song from this duo, also, kudos for her doing an absolutely amazing performance while being pregnant, Kirsten’s voice as always is superb and an absolute delight and the music is so funny and cheerful. A nice entry from Denmark, they certainly made their game in the late 80′s.

6th Place: ISRAEL/Yardena Arazi-Ben Adam (Real Placing: 7th-85 points)

Oh what a song!! I love the beat in this one, so deep at the beginning but powerful and cheerful at the end, this song develops so well and Yardena is such a wonderful singer. I absolutely adore this entry and nice job Israel, also the lyrics are very touching and smart.

7th Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Gerard Joling-Shangri-la (Real Placing: 9th-70 points)

The music on this one is amazing and his voice is very good, this is such an awesome and enjoyable song, overall this is so 80′s but it’s a very nice and catchy song.

8th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Scott Fitzgerald-Go (Real Placing: 2nd-136 points)

Again a nice song but I can’t understand how he came 2nd and with a close margin to Switzerland, the music is good but sometimes I can’t understand what he’s singing. Overall a good entry but not a runner up.

9th Place: FINLAND/Boulevard-Nauravat silmät muistetaan (Real Placing: 20th-3 points)

WHY THIS FINISHED SO LOW!!! This is a nice entry and I like this one so much, they are so cheerful and happy on stage and the music is amazing, this song deserved so much more.

10th Place: GERMANY/Maxi & Chris Garden-Lied für einen Freund (Real Placing: 14th-48 points)

Another enjoyable song, the music on the verses is very good, maybe the chorus isn’t the best but I think this song is cute. Also their voices are quite good and kudos because this is a mother-daughter duet.

11th Place: FRANCE/Gérard Lenorman-Chanteur de charme (Real Placing: 10th-64 points)

OOOH THIS IS A LOVELY SONG, his voice is good and the music is very nice, I love the orchestra in this one, at first I was like meh with this one but now it’s a song I enjoy so much. A nice song from France and what a comeback for me, because their entries of the last 4 years weren’t so good IMO.

12th Place: SPAIN/La Década Prodigiosa-La chica que yo quiero (Made in Spain) (Real Placing: 11th-58 points)

Another interesting song, the music is so nice but the lyrics are so weird and they aren’t the best ones in the world. An average song from Spain, and not one of their best entries but I like it somehow.

13th Place: ICELAND/Beathoven-Þú og þeir (Sókrates) (Real Placing: 16th-20 points)

Oh this is such a guilty pleasure for me, I like this song so much, the music is catchy and they have amazing voices, and this makes me feel so happy. Yeah I love this song!

14th Place: TURKEY/MFÖ-Sufi (Real Placing: 15th-37 points)

Ok another interesting song, I think I like more this entry than their song in 1985, the music is catchy and it’s very nice, but I think it’s quite average for me to place it higher.

15th Place: YUGOSLAVIA/Srebrna krila-Mangup (Real Placing: 6th-87 points)

This is a very good song actually, but my problem here is her voice, I find it annoying in some way and it’s isn’t pleasant for me to hear at all. The music is nice but with another singer this would’ve been better for me.

16th Place: IRELAND/Jump the Gun-Take him home (Real Placing: 8th-79 points)

Awww the music is so good, but this isn’t a song I can remember at all except for the chorus, anyway the song is cute but quite forgettable.

17th Place: PORTUGAL/Dora-Voltarei (Real Placing: =18th-5 points)

Another song with a disastrous performance, one of the backing singers had it’s microphone so high and the voice wasn’t nice, Dora was amazing but the song is quite bad, the verses are very good but the chorus ruins this one.

18th Place: ITALY/Luca Barbarossa-Vivo (ti scrivo) (Real Placing: =12th-52 points)

This is better than the previous ones but I find this one particularly mediocre, the music is nice but I can’t remember this song at all, he has a nice voice but itself the entry isn’t nice.

19th Place: BELGIUM/Reynaert-Laissez briller le soleil (Real Placing: =18th-5 points)

This is another weird but interesting song, sounds like something from a ritual, his voice is amusing, my problem here is that this song doesn’t go anywhere, and I can understand it’s placing.

20th Place: GREECE/Afroditi Frida-Clown (Real Placing: 17th-10 points)

This song starts very well, sound amazing at the start, but then everything goes away in the chorus and that laugh is creepy, the music is very good but the performance and the chorus makes this horrible, her face says it all. HAHAHAHA

21st Place: AUSTRIA/Wilfried-Lisa Mona Lisa (Real Placing: 21st-0 points/last)

This is a very weird song, the music is all over the place and his voice wasn’t the best one here, and also the backing singer didn’t help so much. I’m afraid this song was the worst of the night and turns boring after a while.
