while it’s true that “3” was an objectively weak x-files episode, and I didn't love it, I do appreciate getting to see just how dark of a place Mulder has fallen into in Scully’s absence. she’s been gone for months, and he's so purposeless and, frankly, desperate. but especially meaningful is that he's wearing her necklace. the man will start an x-file with her name on it, tuck her badge and her glasses away in a cabinet for safekeeping, but the necklace? it's staying with him.

#he has so much underlying turmoil and GUILT. especially guilt #i feel for him poor boy #but i also cannot get enough of the symbolism of him wearing scully's necklace #at a surface level it's obvious that this is his way of keeping her close to him #but it can also be taken in so many deeper meta-like directions #like the juxtaposition of him trying to have faith that he'll find her again and yet doubting that he'll ever see her again because he alre #*already lost his sister to an abduction #OH and i'm thinking about the scene in one breath when mulder says to scully that she's always had the strength of her beliefs #and how later she says to him that she had the strength of HIS beliefs #now i'm seeing it as: while scully was gone mulder leaned heavily on the strength of SCULLY'S beliefs #wondering that there has to be something to her faith; some reason that she held true to it even though she's such a skeptic #and so he kept her necklace as a reminder #fox mulder #the x files #meta #belle speaks #txf liveblog #txf s2 #belle liveblogs #meta finding tag
