But seriously for any blank blogs following me here are some easy steps so you can have a better experience on tumblr. Under the cut for your convenience. <3

1. Give yourself a basic profile picture, any public domain image will work. If you want to use fan art credit the artist please (headers are optional)

2. Reblogging is *necessary* on tumblr your likes mean nothing. Tags are not necessary, but are appreciated. Reblogging makes the post reach more people especially with art.

3. Take some time to process your emotions when you see something that upsets you, your feelings about something are valid but your actions are still your responsibility. Anonymity makes you think that you can do whatever you want and not face consequences, but there is still another person on the other side of the screen.

4. Put either “minor” or “adult” in your bio, this step is mostly optional but it helps NSFT (not safe for tumblr) blogs or just adults in general know if they should block you or not. NSFT blogs don’t want minors following them (obviously) and some people just aren’t comfortable with that either. It’s none of your business either way and you should respect peoples boundaries.

4b. Speaking of boundaries (and this is specifically aimed at minors) please respect if someone doesn’t want you interacting. I know you feel like you’re very mature for your age but especially with NSFT blogs it can make people very uncomfortable. Please wait until you’re over 18.

5. People have the right to block you. Wether it’s because your vibes are off or you’re on their DNI list, it’s not personal. Also don’t block evade that’s a dick move bro.

6. Have fun, and take some breaks! You control your internet experience and you don’t have to post anything! Ultimately it’s up to you to check in and take care of yourself!

I feed her frozen/thawed mice, and she will first slither around her entire cage, tongue flicking and clearly looking for her food, even though I always place it atop the same spot on her hide, and she can have her head RIGHT beside it and still do nothing. She ultimately generally eats (as a ball python though, she's a picky eater and will occasionally reject a meal), but I of course wonder why she's odd about dinnertime... As a champagne, she does have the notorious "spider gene" in her, which can cause neurological issues, but idk if something like this could be related.

I am SO! FUCKING! SICK! of this idiotic purity culture on this website. Whether it’s about individual people or larger works of art, if they fuck up, or even just seem to fuck up, even in the tiniest way, they’re automatically “canceled” or “problematic” or whatever the mob decides to call it now. No matter how well-meaning the creator is, how well the work does in terms representation for the most part, if there’s one thing, just one fucking thing these Internet Crusaders deem to be maybe, kinda, sorta, somewhat iffy, if you squint and look at it at the right angle, and you know this obscure fact that 300 years ago, this certain word was actually used as a slur, then the whole entire thing is automatically fished from Satan’s Toilet Bowl of Un-Woke Content!

A show with prominent, non-fetished or ridiculed gay characters? Aimed at children? With the main character being a gender non-conforming twelve year old girl who develops a crush on another girl, and it’s treated just like a crsuh on a boy would be?

BAM! CANCELED! Because the main villain is female-presenting with a male voice actor, so the entire show is super transphobic. Nevermind that there are still trans people enjoying the show. Nevermind that the showrunner, the person literally deciding everything important about the show, is trans herself. All of that doesn’t matter. There are trans people that see this as transphobic, so the whole show is a heap of trash!

Because for these people, nuance doesn’t exist. These people like to think they’re being “critical,” but they aren’t. They aren’t engaging with the material in a critical way. In fact, they’re not engaging with the material at all. They just look at one thing they can criticize and blow it out of proportion. These people are incapable of acknowledging the faults of something without immediately condemning it. They’re incapable of even entertaining the thought that other people might recognize something as problematic, but can still enjoy the content besides that. In their heads, you either realize that the thing is bad and evil and disgusting, and you don’t support it, or you’re blinded or dumb or lying or simply don’t care about oppression or whatever.

These people are also incapable of grasping the concept of honest mistakes. Or making up for mistakes. Or learning from mistakes. People like that operate under a strict one-strike-system. You fuck up once, you’re out. You’re cancelled. You’re scum, you’re disgusting, fuck you. For these people, there are no creators who make mistakes. There are no creators who just genuinely didn’t know better, or didn’t fully think through all the implications. And if there are, well, then they’re still at fault, because how dare they not know! How dare they not know consider implications that they might not have even been able to consider! And if they try to make it up? If they apologize, if they own up to their faults, if they rectify their mistakes in future works, if they try their best to research as well as they can, it’s either insincere and only done to save face, or...nothing. They’ll just stop talking about it, because now, there’s no delicious controversy anymore, only *gasp!* good content! Oh, but don’t worry, if they slip up again, these people will be the first to notice and make posts like “Hey, remember that person that made that one super problematic episode five years ago? Well, now they have their own, and in this one episode of it, there’s a shot of [something that the storyboarders probably thought to be super innocuous because the only way to know why it’s supposedly a bad thing is to specifically research this one thing].” They’ll of course even do that if said person has only produced “pure” content during those five years.

Don’t get me wrong: Of course it can always happen that you find a show, book (series), game (series), Youtuber, whatever, that you mostly enjoy, but which also has content that doesn’t sit right with you, maybe even offends you. And of course, if that’s the case, you’re free to just...not watch/play/read/whatever that content anymore, if it’s really that big of a deal to you. But in such a case, please, consider the following things:

Don’t jump to conclusions. This is especially important if you haven’t even seen the actual content, and only know it from things like trailers, reviews, gifsets, what have you. But it also applies if you’re still pretty new to the actual content. Like, maybe you’ve seen a certain character that gives you bad vibes for some reason, but maybe that character only shows up in one episode? Maybe they’re actually supposed to be bad, because they’re a villain? Maybe the scenes you’ve seen are taken out of context? Give it a chance before you condemn it, is all I’m saying. And if you decide that whatever it is is too much for you, consider:

Not everyone has to share that opinion, even people who might be in a similar situation to you, and who you’d expect to have the same issues. What’s a big deal to one person might not matter at all to another. But neither of those opinions are invalid.

Recognize that the work (probably) has aspects besides whatever put you off, and judge it while taking those aspects into account as well. Don’t go around telling people something is irredeemable because it has a single thing that’s not quite right.

Give the benefit of the doubt. You can critique. You can point out problems. You can educate. You can even contact creators and try to inform them. But always, always assume that what they did wasn’t out of malice. Always be open to dialogue, not condemnation. And have trust that people can better themselves, and learn from their mistakes, and correct them.

Just...try to live in a world where the glass is always half full, waiting to be filled, not half empty and always at the risk of spilling.

Just, for fuck’s sake, try to be hopeful instead of cynical.

Dirty Cool Cat Confessions Art Contest!

Hey everyone, Mod Cool Cat here. I've been thinking that it's about time we got a brand new icon for our blog, so I thought maybe we could have some of the fans of this blog help us with it! Because of this, I've decided we could hold some kind of art contest. Though it's mainly for an icon, don't be afraid to go all out if you want. Aside from having their image become the new icon for the blog and having it credited as such in the blog description (icon provided by [winner] for example), you will also win my eternal gratitude!

What if I told you I would also send you a full copy of the movie Cool Cat Saves The Kids, plus Mod Onceler drawing whatever your heart desires (bar specific conditions) and a specialized flair on the Discord server? That might be enough for some people iffy about participating, eh?

Here are the details:

From today, (Monday, May 1st) to next Thursday (May 11th) you can do one of two things to submit your art. You can either submit it to the blog, or you can post it on your personal blog and tag us with @dirtycoolcatconfessions so that we can find it. All submissions to the contest will be either posted or reblogged to DirtyCoolCatConfessions for people to see the wonderful art you've made.

After the deadline for submissions is up, (art must be submitted before midnight on Thursday, May 11th) we will once again reblog all the submissions and hold a vote (likely on something like strawpoll) for the followers to vote on which image they personally believe is the best, with me and Mod Onceler having three votes that we can either spread out between different art pieces or give an art piece we especially like +2-3 votes. The image with the most votes by the end of the day, on Friday, May 12th will be announced the winner on Saturday, May 13th, Derek Savage's birthday, and set as the new icon. I'm still not sure if there will be runner-up prizes, but I could probably at least make you a specialized flair on the Discord server (if you're a part of it that is, if not, I'd recommend you do join it, it's great.) that says the rank you got, i.e. Art Contest Winner, Art Contest Runner-Up, Art Contest Participant.

There at some rules that must be followed. Each person is limited to one submission only, so make it count. NSFW art is not allowed, since I don't really want to deal with any repercussions of that. As stated, you have until 11:59 P.M. PST on May 11th to submit your artwork. Though I will still reblog/post art submitted after the fact, it will unfortunately not be qualified for the contest. In addition, you will most likely need a Tumblr or Discord account so that we may contact you if you win. sure man. only on places like instagram, tumblr, or twitter though, and proper credit in an easy to see place must be given. if a piece of art is of my ocs or especially vent art though never use it for icons. thank you.

-why do you have an entirely separate blog for your FAQ? you know you can make blog pages, right?

i’m well aware of that and originally my faq WAS set up on a blog page, but unfortunately many folks proved to be either lazy or just couldn’t figure out how to get to a blog page on mobile so i had to set it up this way for accessibility purposes.

-tons of your videos are gone, what happened to them? will they come back? can you repost them?

i set old videos on private for my own sake, i don’t like having my old content available bc it just looks old and stale and i don’t like it. there’s nothing deep about it, i just don’t want people interacting with my old stuff. as deep is it gets is i just deleted videos related to fandoms i’m sick of bc the association is fuckin annoying. these videos will not come back into public. i do keep them posted for my own reflection sake, but that’s it. don’t ask me to bring them back. don’t whine about me not putting shit back out just bc ur a little sad n gonna cry. guilting people is gross, reevaluate yourself.

if you want a song from an old video, just ask me! I’ll happily let you know what the music is in case u liked ‘em and can’t remember the titles or artists. i’ve also got a playlist full of the music i listen to so u can comb through there n see if the songs u want are there

To anyone who would like to continue following me in the future

Simply put, I’ve been contemplating for a few months now that I should start over on Tumblr completely, because I’m not happy with the way I have my main blog and side blogs laid out. I have an idea of how I might want it to look when I do start over, but I’d like some input from people who are interested as well, just to make sure.

So right now, I have my main blog, which consists of...pretty much everything I like to see here. Shows, games, art, humans, anthros, personal stuff, political stuff, PSAs and signal boosts, you name it, you’ve seen it, especially if you’ve been following me for a long time. Then I have my art blog, which only sees activity when I post art, (Which isn’t that often, and then I still post it on my main blog anyway which kinda beats the whole purpose) and then an NSFW blog, which is even less active because I don’t follow that much NSFW content, nor do I make much of it myself. Even then, a bunch of the stuff I post there isn’t even that NSFW, because I’m too nervous about posting it to my main.

Bottom line, I have one blog that’s way too cluttered and disorganized because it has EVERYTHING on it, and two blogs that are fairly empty and pointless because they have next to nothing on it.

While I’ve been contemplating this situation, I noticed that there’s a bit of a disconnect between what certain followers like seeing on my main blog and what others prefer instead. The main issues I’ve noticed being that I reblog a lot of fandom stuff but don’t create much content for it, I reblog and draw a lot of anthro stuff, but not many people outside of a few close friends are interested in that, and I reblog a lot of personal and political stuff because it’s important to me but it might detract some people from the enjoyment factor of the other stuff.

With that in mind, here’s what I was thinking for how I’d manage my blogs when I moved:

First, I have a blog dedicated to sharing art from and participating in mainstream fandom-related stuff, such as Steven Universe, Undertale, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc, as well as the occassional webcomic series, such as Alice and the Nightmare. I’d also like to make more of an effort to contribute to fandoms like these through more fanart, and mayyybeee some discussion. We’ll see. X’D That, and I might also draw more human OCs to show off here as well.

Second, since I’m still interested in it and would like to get more in touch with this side of Tumblr as well, I’d have a blog specifically for anthro stuff. This would feature my anthro ocs, as well as other peoples’ anthro characters, as well as stuff from anthro-based webcomics like Bittersweet Candy Bowl and Las Lindas. This blog will also probably contain Sonic fan characters, but no content featuring official Sonic characters, since that’s more mainstream.

Third, finally, and probably my main blog, would be my personal blog. For all those zodiac posts, political shenanigans, or other shit that wouldn’t really fit well with the other two blogs. Maybe this could also serve as a hub for all of my art in general, whether I post it here and reblog it to the other two blogs, or vice versa. Still gotta figure out a few specifics for this plan, of course.

Also, as a general thing, I’m gonna be tagging things more thoroughly on every blog. For example, I’m probably going to tag all the political stuff as such, rather than leaving it tagless, since I’m sure there are some people out there who are just sick of how terrible things are going in America. (Believe me, so am I lmao but I digress) In addition, since I’m planning on not having a separate NSFW account, I’m gonna try and be a little braver about posting that to these new accounts, but I still plan on tagging it accordingly, with either nsfw-ish for the iffy stuff, nsfw for stuff that’s pretty simply not safe for work, and maybe even an 18+ tag if I feel it’s needed.
