every time duolingo makes me translate "you" with "usted" I am filled with rage. not for any rational reason it's just incomprehensible to me that "you" would ever be formal. like I know that's just how the english language works but it feels wrong

#or plural for that matter #i keep forgetting ustedes (plural) is also informal in latam #meaning it's not AS much of a stretch #but like. the word you is equivalent to du/tú to me. usted/ustedes are two entirely different words #give me Sie and ihr or give me death <- lighthearted but like. y'know #''you'' is too simple. too versatile. not specific enough #english hateposting. i've learned two more spanish phrases today that are 1 to 1 translatable into german #but english doesn't have them so i have to make it complicated when translating for duolingo. sad #(the phrases in question being tener hambre and tener razón)#(<- can you write them down like that with infinitives? i don't know. i assume you can)#but like. yes! hunger haben und recht haben! but no. to be hungry and to be right. fine. i guess #echo.txt #languageblogging
