What is the play on words in that caption???

Ha, my grasp of Hanja is nonexistent so I can’t give you a clear answer but hey I’ll do my best to make a fool out of myself anyway:

無猫無想 [무묘무상]

無량無念 [무량무념]

In the Hanja, substituting the Hangul 량 made it clear it’s wordplay (probably a pun?), and a little sleuthing tells me 無 = no/nothing, 猫 = cat, 想 = thought/sense, 念 = sense/feeling.

량 could be translated as 量, where 量 = measure. So 無量 (or 무량, as Handsome Oppa’s cat is called), is “no measure” aka limitless, boundless, infinite, etc. (Which, if you lookit that floppy belly, would certainly seem like a boundless kitteh.)

Sooo my rough attempt would be “No cat, no thought” and “Murang, no feeling,” which doesn’t seem to make sense, and then once I starting googling full phrases I was overwhelmed by tons of Buddhist links so presumably that’s part of a... prayer? Tenant? Philosophy? Or at least a phrase that might be more recognizable to someone who practices the Buddhist faith (which would not be me)?

Sorry I can’t give you a clear answer, but just knowing “Muryang/무량” is the name of the cat was enough to clue me in. Hopefully someone more knowledgable can set us straight!
