alright. okay. so. i do not believe for a second that olivia colomar is sombra’s real name. that woman was not born as olivia. i know what youre saying: but andy, zarya found out her name and she was so surprised? Well. Let me just explain.

for her first name, allow me to redirect you to the first half of this headcanon. if you don’t feel like clicking, tl;dr there is a pc in the havana map that very specifically focuses on olivia from shakespeare’s twelfth night. olivias the only name not mentioned more than once in the map, and i think that sombra got this name from this play when she was younger. 

yes, i’m plugging another headcanon already. here’s a headcanon that mentions how i headcanon sombra is into classic literature. this ones honestly really just for fun LOL but it does explain why i think sombra got the name from this specific play. 

as for her last name! in the map dorado, mexico, there is a sign that reads calle colomar. aka, colomar street. this map came out  before sombra did as it was one of the maps that came with the game so it’s safe to assume this sign was always there.  plus, colomar isn’t a very common last name.

there is also a sign that reads calle portero, which is the surname of guillermo portero, former ceo of lumerico and ex-president of mexico. adding this as some proof that colomar being a street name and sombra’s “surname” was very intentional.

so, we have two different canonical places that show where she could have gotten her name from. in the comic with her and zarya, it’s revealed that zarya knows her name and was able to find her hideout from alejandra. from this point on, almost all of this below the cut are actually things that @whski​​ figured out. i do not take credit for noticing any of this, my gf’s brain is so much bigger than mine and i only figured out what’s above with some other stuff i ran into. i’ll go more into searching another time, this blurb is gonna focus more on her name.

so the gist of this comic is that it’s placed sometime after infiltration where sombra blackmails katya volskaya to be her “friend.” katya turns to zarya to help her with this, telling her to track down sombra with the help of an omnic named lynx who’s been looking into the sombra “collective” themself. so they go to mexico, everybody keeps saying theyve never seen sombra. alejandra comes out and gives zarya information on where sombra is hiding out.

naturally, lynx is suspicious because why would a little girl have that kind of information? despite this, they go to an abandoned warehouse where sombra is indeed waiting for them at a vantage point. this brings me to my first point; look at these panels. theres no furniture, no computers, the walls are all cracked and worn. this clearly isn’t sombra’s hide out. 

you could say that maybe her hideout is hidden somewhere in this building, but her canonical hideout is in castillo, mexico. not dorado. we can go right into it in-game

so, it’s not her real hideout. regardless, zarya has sombra, catches her in her graviton surge, and ends up telling her the name olivia colomar. she’s surprised, sure, but look at how quickly she moves on from it. she doesn’t dwell on it or freak out like you’d expect her to. 

remember, sombra had to change her entire identity and become somebody new. if olivia was her old name, that would have been a HUUUUUGE problem because that would have been the name people were looking for before she became sombra. that’s extremely powerful information to have on somebody like her. but she moves on from it like she figured out that she tripped at the store yesterday. embarrassing, but not that big of a deal. 

also, sombra took down lynx without even touching them. while being stepped on by zarya. she reveals she hacked them back in numbani, which shows that she’s known all along what they were doing.

finally, sombra had a bomb set up from the beginning. she clearly had this meeting planned which adds to the idea of alejandra being a plant all along. and it also helps prove that this clearly is not her hideout because why would she blow it up and lose her work? i’m sure its mostly backed up in her cybernetics and all that but that’s a lot of physical hardware that she clearly uses enough to need a specific place for it. 

SO MY POINT WITH ALL OF THIS is that this entire situation was planned by sombra. she knew they were searching for her ever since numbani, she had plenty of time to plan this out and she used alejandra as a plant to lead zarya and lynx into her territory where she had the upper hand. she lulled them into a false sense of security by being caught by zarya, gun pointed to her head and everything before she reveals that the whole place is gonna blow up if they don’t get out now. it’s not far fetched to think that sombra gave katya some bait to figure out this name so she could see if she was going to betray her. not only did katya betray her, but she even told zarya.

while i do personally headcanon that olivia colomar was one of her names and it was one of the names she used the most, it’s still not her real name. i wouldn’t be surprised if it was canonically one she made up on the spot to see if katya would try to use it against her. as for my canon, i think it was an incredibly risky move for sombra to give her access to this name but she knew she had the upper hand still and that there was nothing she could do with that name without more proof.
