Is anyone actually saying that Buck’s jealousy in “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered” was only about Tommy or are certain Buddie purists making up a guy to get mad at so they can justify their 48th post about how Buck was jealous of Eddie in the episode as if the rest of us didn’t see that immediately?

[Id. Hijikata in his salarymen au persona. He looks very tired and has mayo hairpins on his hair; he is fidgeting with a pencil and has some nicotine patches on his chest and arm. Some messages from Kintoki on his right read "wait, the pdf looks blurry... (...) I attach the branding (it's just a logo)" End Id.]
Venting again.

The Asshole To Caring About People Ratio
Rewatching some shows and I think I’ve put my finger on something.
There is a really important ratio for me that exists between a character being an asshole and a character genuinely caring about other people. For me I can get behind a huge amount of assholery if the character goes out of their way to care about other people (and I get that that tolerance is different for everybody, and is highly situational depending on genre etc.). But when that ratio starts to get messed with without proper acknowledgement/narrative framing by the writers it reeeeaaaaaally bothers me.
If a character starts to not care about people but remains the same amount of asshole while the show carries on as if nothing has changed, I don’t think it’s very good writing. I love a good tragedy, I love a good negative character arc! I just hate when characters behave in a way that suggest a backwards slide or a journey into the dark without the narrative ever acknowledging it. I believe most people would agree that if a character stops caring about people altogether that’s usually a tragedy. So why are there so many shows where that happens and the show doesn’t even bother to acknowledge it? This is just a personal preference but if it’s the type of media with root-for-able characters, then writers can’t fuck around with this ratio without acknowledgement and a narrative framing shift.

Remember Gem's beehive origin? It wasn't a bee origin, i think the text said it was a lot of bees holding together a form. But my headcanon, which i would've explored more if not for insectophobia, is that she's literally.. a hive. Like, the bees straight up makes home inside of her. That gave me an idea for an urban fantasy new life au, and the irony is that i literally wanted to do the same thing with origins smp, but i accidentally recreated kagepro and i was never the same person again. Either way, didn't go past the ideas stage on both things. I literally want an urban fantasy au so bad but kagepro is literally my only inspo for that 🤷♂️ so there's that

I love the amount of MLP g4 fanart I see now that's either 100% in the spirit of the show or just...otherwise normal? Even shipping, creepypastas, etc. feel less Bad now, at least the stuff that's easy to find.
Like. I love that the remaining fandom that sits in the dread smoldering ashes of the brony subculture (man that last bit felt greasy just to say) is just. Doing regular fandom things. Y'all have running jokes ("the bride and her ugly-ass groom" etc), and properly-tagged shipping, and (reasonably mild) creepypastas, and cute fanart and etc etc etc.
It's not *perfect* but still!
And like. Back in the show's heyday there were normal MLP fans too of COURSE. But there were also enough 4chan guys dominating the internet space that completely heinous things like ask princess molestia, pony.mov, smile hd, cupcakes, etc were WAY bigger fandom mainstays that they should have ever fucking been.
And for sure that kind of stuff still exists out there, there's still a spot on the internet for the 4chan style brony. That spot is just tucked away in its own little corner as far as I can tell. We should keep it there. Keep poking it with a stick occasionally to make sure it never leaves.
The amount of cute fanart and the general sentiment I've seen of "can we acknowledge that mlp:fim is super cute/good now?" feels like deliberately taking it back, as something that (aside from it's #1 purpose of selling toys) was supposed to be fun and full of positivity rather than whatever the hell it became back in the day. Fuck the weird associations mlp:fim ended up saddled with, it should never have had them in the first place.

kinda cool how in season one eleven escapes the lab thinking she's the monster & in season four eleven escapes the lab again knowing she never was and that none of what happened was ever her fault.
and how in season two she goes on a journey to figure out part of her past and is told by another of the lab's victims that she needs to find strength in pain and anger & in season four we saw that it was her mother calling her by her real, human name and telling her that she loved her that gave her enough strength to overpower evil and banish it from their dimension, not the hurt and rage she felt at her being taken away. and that again, she was able to perform a miracle and bring her friend back to life by thinking of the love she showed her and the way she had always treated her like she was a human being.
she and her story are just really cool, methinks.
