"How long do you think we've got until they realise that we can understand every word." Briar murmured to Kai from where they were stood in the Ministry. They had some high level visitors in today who seemed intent on trying to discuss their business in private whilst also being in a very non-private area. "You'd think by now that they would realise that in a place like this, there are lots of multilingual people around them. I may actually feel myself getting second hand embarrassment for them."

Closed Starter // Benjamin and Kai

Benjamin was usually kept under a pretty strict thumb. It came with the territory of having military parents. Asking them to attend the frat's homecoming at his college had been a long shot. It wouldn't be the first time they told him that a party filled with stupid drunk children was a bad idea.

Fully expecting to hear no he couldn't hide his surprise when they agreed he could go. Under two conditions.

No drinking

No leaving with anyone he didn't know and trust.

Perfectly reasonable requests and now Benjamin was walking into the party with a nervous excitement. The music was loud and as he made his way over to the ice bucket of beer he grabbed one and cracked it open before drinking.

"I'd take this danger over being around our parents any time." She was after all, concerned more about the influence they could have over their daughter if they were in closer quarters. "I will do anything I can to protect us from the rest of the danger, you know that." It was one of the things that kept her going in her line of work, knowing that she could do something. "But yes, I wouldn't want to leave them behind."

"Sometimes, but it's mostly when it gets dangerous here, and then I remember I don't think running to France escapes that," he said. "Plus, I like it here, we made a good life here. We have our careers, our family. You have Frank, I have Octavia here. The rest of our friends. Maybe we should try traveling back to France more in the coming years, maybe some places in America you've never been to."

The last few weeks had been a dream. Diego had shifted his work schedule so that he could come home earlier each evening, and he'd been taking a longer lunch once each week so that he could spend time with his husband. The changes, small as they might have been, had left him feeling like he'd felt when he was in his twenties, head over heels in love with Kai. Over the years, the love hadn't faded, it had simply taken a backseat to everything else in their lives -- their children, their careers, their own worries. But as good as the last few weeks had been, Diego knew that it couldn't last. Not if he didn't come clean with Kai first. So that's what he planned to do. "Hey," Diego greeted, brushing a kiss against his husband's jaw. "Want to join me for lunch today? There's some things I wanted to talk to you about."

"Look, I really should have been gone hours ago so unless you have something important to add, I'm going to call it a night." Silas stated with a sigh, checking the clock once more that was in the office. How he'd managed to get to this time without realising was a feat in itself.

I’m sure that definitely had something to do with it. I always run around all the place during the first week of classes, to make sure I got everything settled and and all that, but I’m good now, so introductions are a good thing to have. Late welcome here, Kai! How was your first week? Are you all settled by now?

Jacob observed the scene silently for a moment, hesitating. Visits to the school were rare, always tinged by his mother's complicated history with the headmistress. Somewhat giving Jacob the feeling of a child born from an affair despite that not being the case at all. Yet, something drew him here—the quiet, nostalgic pull of the home once belonging to the father he'd never known.

In a blur of vampire speed, Jacob appeared on the porch, stepping carefully around Kai, sprawled across the ground. He walked into the doorway. "Sorry, mate," he said lightly, tugging back his hood to free his tousled strawberry-blonde hair. He turned back, eyebrow raised in mild amusement as he regarded Kai. "Guessing you're banned from entry? Can't imagine why they'd want to keep a charmer like you out." The man's appearance struck him as, familiar, he'd never met the man but he could have sworn he'd heard who this individual was before.

Perhaps Kai should have thought more than thirty seconds on his course of action before sauntering up the driveway and underneath the second-floor nook that hung over the U-turn at the front doors of the Salvatore School. And perhaps he should have stopped before strolling straight for those doors - open thanks to a cleaning lady carrying some supplies to and from her vehicle outside.

If he had, he might have been able to prevent himself from slamming into that invisible force that protected the abodes of the living from uninvited intrusion from the undead.

Toppling back onto his ass, he sat there and gaze up at the doors and the house around them, groaning. "Oh, come on!" He called out, "I was only dead, like, five minutes!" He complained and rose to his feet, dusting himself off.

“So what you’re proposing...” Clara began as they swayed on the dancefloor, her arms wrapped around Kai’s neck. “Is that you get to tell someone and I get to tell someone too.” She mused, knowing that they were very early on so Clara wasn’t too enthused about letting the news get out just yet. She wanted for the pregnancy to be safer first, still, she understood why Kai wanted to tell the person they did.

“You know what I realised today... is that you always come to see me in my job but I never come to see you in yours, so here I am. Tada!” Jaiyash announced with a playful flourish of his arms. “Let’s just pretend that the reason you come to see me isn’t just to buy things though. Makes it seem more personal and intimate that way.” He added with a wink.

"Kai is the best that humanity has to offer. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but I'm serious. I dare you to find someone who's kinder or gentler or more empathetic than Malakai. I can't think of a single person who'd literally give you the shirt off their back and the shoes off their feet even if you cursed and spat at them. Kai's lightyears out of my league, and I honestly can't believe I somehow convinced them to marry me, but I'm hoping they never realize that they could do better. Also, not to be that husband, but I'm pretty sure he's also the hottest person on Earth. Yeah, I'll go on record as saying that. I've got the hottest husband, so if there was a contest for this, I would win."
