Last (but certainly not least) is Abby! Abby is doing her internship with CabinZero, a company that makes travel backpacks and bags. For her 8 weeks, she is a design intern, working with the head designer, proposing themes and designs for backpack collections for 2023/24.

How was your first week?  It was great! A lot of introductions and learning about the product

Looking forward to anything coming up with the internship? I am looking forward to creating designs for upcoming collections. Both for the backpacks and also packing cubes for CabinZero. I also have enjoyed motorbiking with my work colleagues to malls for market research. My work is a social bunch so we have a few out of work events organised which I am excited for. 

What is one of your favourite things about your workplace so far?Favourite place to go to or order from for lunch? My work colleagues have been very inclusive and welcoming towards me. I have loved spending my lunch breaks exploring Saigon and trying new food with them. 

One of my favourite foods at the moment is Bánh tráng cuốn thịt heo - tứ hoà. Pork belly and vermicelli noodle salad.  I have loved going to eat at local restaurants with my work colleagues, they’ve been amazing at introducing me to new flavours and food!

Fitting a Cabinzero bag to a Brompton for Cycle Touring

For our previous tour we used hiking backpacks but the tubular shape of these backpacks impede useability and the padded straps and frame adds weight without adding benefit to a cycle tour.

For our latest tour in Portugal we decided to use Cabinzero bags. It is tough, lite, opens fully like a suitcase and is within carry-on dimensions on most airlines. This setup is combined with a Brompton T-bag.

To fit it to the bicycle you need a bungy cord of sorts. I made these with shock cord and caribeaners since it can be made lighter than a bungy cord with hooks. We also use this to put up our washing line while camping.

The bungee cord goes through the saddle rails and hook unto the carrier.

The Brompton carrier’s own bungee straps then hook onto the saddle rails through the Cabinzero handle. Since the Brompton bungee cords are double one can use one of the cords on each side for lateral stabilisation.
