1. yes!! he’s her brother, and in my story, after the death of their father by the hands of drago they separate, with nikora swaying to the side of the trappers and calder finding a calling in saving trapped dragons. xanthous, his windwalker, is the first dragon he rescued. he was like a vigilante before he joined the riders, not knowing that there were other dragon riding communities out there. nikora is actually more relevant in my story because i think she’s a great character and deserved to be in rtte somehow :)

2. calder and nikora are from the mongrel tribe - which doesn’t have much lore as they are only present in the games, so i made a document on how i perceive the tribe and their practices, so it’s fanmade! his tattoos symbolise boldness and daring. they also match with nikora’s, and form a line across the face if they are joined.

3. the most interesting part of his lore would be his relationships with nikora, his sister. in the games, she is described as belonging to the “evil” faction which i interpret to be the trappers, drago, and so on. however i feel like she is quite a morally grey person who does things for her own good and her tribe’s good.

since it’s canonically stated that king stormheart (nikora and calder’s father) lost his life to drago bludvist, i took a twist in my writings and stated that it was nikora who planned her father’s assassination with drago. as she was the firstborn and grew up thinking she would be the heir to the throne, calder being promised the title instead proved to be a heavy blow to her as she was largely neglected after his birth. in my story, this caused a lot of jealousy which in turn resulted in the resentment of her brother and her father. when she grew up, she would have very little familial feelings remaining for them, and as drago proposed a new arrangement that could make her queen and give more trading opportunities to her tribe, she took the opportunity even if it meant the death of her father.

but here comes the twist - drago wanted to destroy her village as well, as he knew that she and her tribe would not need him after her father was dead. though their initial arrangements were for drago to assassinate king stormheart and set a few fires around the village to distract the villagers, he ended up burning the village to the ground and desecrating it completely, save for some of the king’s guard who became nikora’s soldiers. so in my story, there is no more mongrel tribe other than calder, nikora and her forces.

calder overheard their plan - and wanted to stop the destruction with newly tamed xanthous, but did not expect drago to go that far. he was caught up in a blaze while trying to save some villagers, causing the scar you see on his right shoulder.

so even though nikora never meant for their entire village to die, calder still thought that she planned it all along and resents her for it.

i think their relationship is interesting because of that. she regretted her actions, but decided to turn to evil once and for all so that calder would not have to bear the burden of her actions.
