it's funny how gay coded villains exist in this purgatory where they are often allowed to act more gay than actual gay characters BUT they are never ever actually confirmed to be lgbt in any way because that would be problematic or something. i'm thinking specifically of joker here but i'm sure there are other examples. alright maybe that's not entirely fair to say because there are also characters like harley & ivy who were implied to be an item as villains, while now their relationship status is more explicit as they've become more heroic. idk where i'm going with this but it's interesting to me

It is interesting! I think the bar for DC is whether or not confirming a character as gay would highlight how homophobic some of their comics are. And like, I love Scott Snyder's Batman run, but there is only a thin line of plausibly deniability protecting those comics from being about how a gay man being attracted to you is a horror on par with a man wearing his own rotting face as a mask and threatening to murder your children.

That being said, the problematic gays I was referring to in the tag were actually the Secret Six, who I desperately need new content for. They had some pin-ups in DC Pride #1 but that is NOT the same as new content.

Also Ragdoll is LITERALLY dead right now. I assume so DC can pretend that their first trans character wasn't a nonbinary serial killer who performed bottom surgery on themselves because their dick made it inconvenient to be a contortionist.
