Unintentional bigotry is still bigotry.
Well-intentioned bigotry is still bigotry.
It is 2023. Writers with massive literally Disney-funded budgets have a moral obligation to hire sensitivity readers when they are writing about minorities that they are not a part of, as the absolute bare minimum requirement for allyship.
It's 2023. We are talking about one of the longest running shows to exist. You do not need to couch every single criticism no matter how light or deserved with assuring cis people you're not *really* mad because you know they mean well.
Cis people are going to get mad no matter what. It is not our responsibility to placate their feelings when we are criticizing transmisia in a show with a massive budget in 2023. Unintentional bigotry is still bigotry. Well meaning bigotry is still bigotry. It's 2023. This is Doctor Who we are talking about. With a massive budget. Wrestle T Davies is not doing his best if he is injecting biological essentialism into the story in a way that literally contradicts all of the rest of the intended themes of the episode. If he were doing his best he would have hired a sensitivity reader or you know, just straight up let a trans person write the episode.
Instead now millions of cis people all over the world are going to have "x-presenting" terminology to fucking throw around and misgender people with and we're all just going to have to fucking deal with this shit now.
It's only been a day and already the fandom is absolutely inundated with this fucking bigoted terminology being used as something you get to casually assign to other people, or as a synonym for AGAB, and it is nauseating.
