Introduction to living as a pool player on the road
I started this because I want to keep a record of what it’s like to play pool professionally; going to tournaments as well as being a road player. I want to write about what it’s like to play, and sweat the games, of course.... but also about the adventures along the way.
I don’t know where to start, but my wife wrote this bio about me & I think it’s a decent introduction:
Eric began playing pool instead of going to school at the age of 10. His first home poolroom was Jacks in Middletown, OH. He came up in the Cincinnati Area and learned about pool subculture from the great Cincinnati Players at Michaels Billiards.
Eric became an incredible road pool player, and made an impression (sometimes good, sometimes not so good) where ever he played. He won local, state & national events, but was best known as "the backroom specialist". The dark side of pool distracted Eric from his game. Starting in about 2003, Eric was preoccupied with other pursuits for many years. He never stopped playing & his love of the game was part of his inspiration to clean up his act.
Eric Durbin returned to professional level pool in 2013. His return has not been entirely graceful. He has fought to right any past wrongs and to show his respect for the game of pool. Eric continues to be a great player. He has incredible skill, a crazy look in his eyes, and a deep love of pool and everyone who shares that love.

If you have any stories, memories, photos or other artifacts from past adventures, please share them with me. It’s been a long, crazy road and my memory of some of it is hazy.
I’m writing this after our long drive from The Carom Room in Beloit WI to Scott City, MO. Straight through it’s not a long drive, our Great Dane, our Chihuahua and I took the long, scenic route. We had our share of obstacles, adventures and laughter. In a few days I’ll write about the whole trip.
I hope to see you at tournaments, at pool rooms throughout the country, or anywhere along the way.
