COME AND ATTEND the American Decorative Arts Forum of Northern California (http://www.adafca.org) for their Saturday, May 6, 2017 DOUBLE Lectures by the renowned Carrie Rebora Barratt, Curator Emerita and Deputy Director for Collections and Administration, Metropolitan Museum of Art. 1:00 p.m. Lecture: "Deborah Lyde Brinley: Goddess in Colonial Boston and Margaret Kemble Gage: Sultana of the American Revolution" 2:45 p.m. Lecture: Queen Victoria: English Inspiration From Across the Pond and Susan Walker Morse: Clio in the Communication Age Gould Theater, Palace of the Legion of Honor, Lincoln Park, San Francisco Admission: Free to ADAF members, $20 to non-members. Museum admission required. Dr. Barratt examines, in two beautifully illustrated lectures, 18th and 19th century portraits of exceptional women. She will discuss the artistic convention of creating both a likeness and an astute depiction of the sitters of a particular time and place. Thomas Sully’s ingenious and unorthodox state portrait of 18-year-old Queen Victoria emphasizes both her femininity and her strength.
