It will feel special going back, having Luft 8 at the site of Luft 4. That weekend in May of 2017 was an inspiration. It was the spark that lead to @checkeditoutchicago and it intensified the aircooled dream, which seemed to be a window rapidly closing. Yet, here we are. Tomorrow, we fly to Vegas and @duanewik to pick up the car and begin the Luft 8 adventure. Four nights, a lot of miles, traffic and good times ahead. They wanted a ‘cars with coffee’ event in Chicago proper, (not to be confused with ‘cars and coffee’ from the Southern California region of Orange). We prefer to call them our ‘Guest Spots.’ Saturday morning we brought it to @lincoln_common with support from @perillocc @olsenmotorsport @mpcars @lapstrackdays @chitownexoticscargroup @carsandcoffeeoakpark & @coldbrewcarsandcoffee 30 vehicles in the Plaza and another 100 on the roof deck. This was about the spot where we pulled over in Wyoming and realized the shit was serious. An abandoned motel parking lot with an equally empty gas station, advertising gas prices we can only dream about. It would be some time later, that we made it to Casper and took everything apart to find an overly excited caliper piston and a pad down to bare metal. It was ‘NOvercrest’ for us, ultimately. We’ve been asked to pen a piece for the @pca_chicago magazine about our travels that we already view fondly, though we were robbed of the rally experience. We took the car and will continue to do so. For a car that’s a couple inches over stock ride height, this thing sure does work on pavement, keeping up with the more nimble 987 S Caymans that are in its class at @pca_chicago autocross. The 996 is a real pleasure to drive, especially with the addition of GT3 buckets and the GT3 center console delete, everything is Savannah Beige, of course.
