Oh my god. I will never be calm about this. I feel like I've been staring at it for hours. Thank you @scriberated for this most beautiful gift!

So I had a silly thought a few months ago: "What if Gil-galad and Celebrían were in love?" It would be doomed, and tragic, and right up my alley. (Naturally from there I devolved into chaos and now I have a new favorite rarepair.)

Into Darkness Fell His Star was my exploration of that question and my love letter to Gil-galad (the best High King of the Noldor).

Here is an excerpt that leads into the scene so stunningly illustrated:

“I want to dance with you beneath the stars,” he says, and then the words come rushing forth. “I want to see you smile as you once did. I want to shelter you from every manner of darkness, every shadow. I want—” He is a selfish bastard for saying these things out loud, for offering something that he cannot give. His life is not his own, his fate is not his own, and yet… “I wanted to lay you down and make love to you until despair and shadow were but faint, passing memories and there was nothing before us save for the very vision of our hope: a home in this world so bright and beautiful.” 

Tears shimmer in her eyes unshed and he hates so much that he could be the cause of a single one of them. But better that she weep now for a time than all the long days of her life when he is not there to comfort her.

“But you cannot,” she says softly. 

“I cannot.”

The words lie heavily between them and he finds himself wishing she would respond in anger because her sorrow is almost too much for him to bear. But she does not spare him her sorrow; she holds his gaze as though begging him to remember this moment. And he will. He will remember it always when he thinks about what might have been in a world without darkness. 

Finally, she takes a step back, toward the stone wall of the garden maze. But she does not turn away from him. She holds out her hand to him. “If this is to be the end, will you not dance with me beneath the stars, my king?”

And because he is so very weak, he takes her hand.

Needless to say, I am obsessed with this is will be forever. It is wild to see something that existed only in your brain come to life.

Chapter 2: catch us in the mirror and it looks a lot like love [13k]

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head, loosened his hold on her waist. “I know.” He looked down at her, teasing, because it was easier. “It’s a lot to go from hating me to declaring your love in the span of an afternoon.”

She should have made a joke of it, but instead she said, “I don’t think I hate you.” And then she pulled herself away before he could tighten his grip on her waist again.

“Finally, the silver-tongued senator from South Carolina is putting that mouth to good use.” Celebrían ran her fingers through his carefully coiffed waves roughly, in a way she knew his hair and makeup team would hate. “And here I thought I was going to have to listen to you talk about policy all night.”

He rucked her light blue tweed skirt up to her hips, slowly rolling her pantyhose down her thighs. “That is typically what happens at a presidential debate, Celebrían.”

Yes. Not always as timely as I should, but I appreciate every one of them!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh boy. Not finished with it yet, but I’m sure it will be the Lesser of Two Evils. Of finished fics, probably Into Darkness Fell His Star (a canon-adjacent doomed romance between Gil-galad and Celebrían)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

On the Twelfth Night, for sure. It’s a Christmas fic and one of the few that actually has a happy ending.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, thankfully. But I don’t really write anything exciting/controversial. 

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yep. Comparatively, probably pretty vanilla, but I did write a threesome one time.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

No. I’m not that ambitious.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope, but had a friend do a podfic for a couple chapters of Two Evils, which was pretty cool.

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No, but I’m open to it! 

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

This is an impossible question. Bellarke has a special place in my heart. Honorable mentions: CaptainSwan, Reylo, Haladriel, Celrond, and Celreinion

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I want to finish them all, but I’m so absorbed in all things Tolkien that I’m not sure when I’ll get back to those first ones.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Characterization and dialogue. Or so I’ve been told. I’ve also been told I’m funny, and you better believe that went to my head.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Description. I don’t see anything when I read, and it carries over to writing sometimes.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Yup. I’m a bit of a linguistics nerd, and I’m writing Tolkien-related things, so if it fits for the characters/situation, I’m all for it. But I try to include it in a way that doesn’t require footnotes to understand what’s going on, because that can take me out of a story.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

This little show called Cursed on Netlfix. I got bored during covid lockdown and decided to try my hand at fic writing. But the show got cancelled after one season. 

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Hmmmm. A recent one, but I think it might be this is the winter of our youth. (Modern Celreinion). This fic was a lot of things I don’t usually write, but it was a story I really enjoyed telling and I’m really happy with how it turned out.
