it was... oddly like nothing had happened.

the Fortress of Meropide should have been a welcome sight, but it was a complicated jumble to put into words. that island... so distant to Teyvat; she'd seen friends there after some months apart, connected with others from worlds afar, found her brother... all of it felt too real to be a dream, and the Traveler was no stranger to nigh-inexplicable experience. and thankfully, when she'd awoken this time, it was in her cell rather than the Fountain of Lucine, so that was a plus.

whatever had... was happening —what was undeniable was that Fontaine balanced still on the precise. as much as she fully intended to serve out the full sentence, regardless of it being a means to an end, the nation was on a strict deadline and there would be nothing to surface to if they waited. so into the Duke's office she entered, already once returned from land. "you know why I'm here — we don't have the time to go through the formalities".

"(Damn...Guess I just missed the train...)" Whatever sort of training simulator this was, was clearly preparing him for any and all possibilities. Because, for some reason, he couldn't fly around like he usually did. Meteoriteman understood being prepared, but there should be a limit.

He hadn't even realized he'd been kind of hogging the schedule until he looked over his shoulder.

And...Ah. A person.

"...Train's not due for another thirty minutes. Did you need this?" He hadn't quite figured out where it was he needed to be heading. In all honesty, the map was basically a foreign language.

"I'd say I was surprised you asked me out here, but between your home and your hobbies, I'm not, really." His lack of surprise, however, was more in reference to the activity they were doing, and less so the fact that he had been asked. Of course, it didn't mean anything - given they seemed to have enough interests in common, it'd only make sense for them to spend more time together.

He supposed Wriothesley considered him enough of a friend to think of him, so that was enough to be content with.

(Although he'd also fought to the death or betrayed most of his friends in some way, shape, or form. Or in some cases outright killed. Perhaps Wriothesley should consider someone else.)

Given the way he typically spent time with the people in his life (usually working their own deadly jobs or in an active military operation), he hoped he didn't come across as too eager when he said yes. And didn't look too strange at already being prepped with an extra layer and a thermal blanket.

"Have you been ice fishing before? It's pretty calming." During more difficult weather, fishing would become a primary source of food while the mercenary groups moved from one place to the next.

adaptability has been a necessary attribute in the path that neuvillette has been tasked, and now chooses, to walk. to anyone none the wiser, he would seem the same passive and elusive individual who seems to be more than capable and used to sitting upon an authoritive throne of some sort. but, if there are any prying eyes that have gazed upon him before, they might notice that the water sovereign is actually, well ... lost.

adaptability has become a strong suit. the curtains part a fraction when seeing someone neuvillette knows - and whilst he is ordering a drink, no less.

neuvillette would have otherwise stuck out like a sore thumb, but this city is actually as kind as fontaine. neuvillette turns, and after a beat of a breath, he says: "So you're here too, Duke Wriothesley."

this is starting to feel like a lost cause. while Ines could technically call the person she's looking for, having spotted their name in her phone a few days ago, she wanted to spare herself the headache and ear-grating teasing used as some half-assed veil for mockery that'd no doubt filter through the phone speaker. but proving to find her in a city this big was turning out to be more of a challenge than she originally thought. not that Ines was worried about her fellow mercenary, not at all. she just wanted to find her before she blew half the city to hell for whatever damn reason.

this man looked like he'd know a thing or two. the fact she couldn't rely on her arts anymore made this far more difficult than needed. " About four feet tall, as insane as you can get, has an unhealthy obsession with explosions. Nothin' ringing a bell?"

Given his new situation, Hoederer had taken it upon himself to explore his new cage more. It was strange, that he had felt content prior to this. That there had been little more to do than check out books from the library and wait out their time here. Now that he had gotten a taste of the freedom that his time as 'captain' had given him, among other things, gave him the desire to look around more. To learn more about their situation.

"At least it's something familiar." He speaks from the sidelines, watching the duel happening at the center of the amphitheatre. He wonders, briefly, if the others who had wandered in here were just as familiar with combat. "Combat for those who wish to fight."

The man next to him certainly seemed to be. The way he watched was different than a spectator. Or, at least he assumed.

"Although," his smile is almost self-effacing as he turns back to look at the combat. "Lower consequences, something like this. Compared to mercenary work."
