Anyway, I've known for months that I needed to get a new car. Needed new front struts, a replacement sensor in the steering column, new back brakes, new front tires.... I tried back in May but for some reason the car I found just didn't vibe with me (Mitsubishi Mirage). It was kinda noisy, very basic. Also very cheap.

Last week, the stars aligned and I found a hopeful prospect with low mileage, decent mpg, and within my budget.

So now I have a new-to-me brick of tofu (white Kia Soul 2020).

I have said my farewells to the green beast, and look forward to what kind of adventures I'll get into with the as-of-yet-unnamed toaster.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Emmy can be incredibly petty when slighted, and will remember said slights, sometimes long after the person responsible has forgotten. Also, while he will be the first to throw himself into a mess to defend someone he cares about, he has a bad habit of letting himself get bullied and used. Combined, this leads to a problem where Emmy will grin and bear it under the weight of those that mistreat him… And he will either continue making excuses for why he doesn't deserve better, or he’ll simply bide his time until he sees a moment to get even.

Another bad habit of his is that he is a chronic daydreamer and will simply lose focus/travel to his own little world if the topic being discussed isn’t one that he understands or takes interest in. Especially if someone becomes too verbose for him to follow.

Finally, the boy is a functioning alcoholic and uses it as a tool of escapism; has since he was thirteen years old. Is it any wonder he got addicted to the euphoria of vampire bites?

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Emmy is one to make even the ordinary special. Victoria still gets yellow and pink roses every time Emmy knows he’s going to see her. He saved every silly love note and polaroid from Javier in the glovebox of his car. Acts of service are his go-to gift of choice, because even though touch and words of affirmation are his primary love language, he understands not everyone is as touchy-feely as he is, and many people find words cheap.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Emmy has been affection-starved since childhood, and it shows. Between a father whose expectations he could never live up to, and a stepparent who saw him as a stain on the family reputation, Emmy started looking for love elsewhere and threw himself at anyone who would give him the time of day. Most of these pursuits resulted in ephemeral encounters until a particular Tall, Dark, and Broody took interest in him shortly after the new year.

Not wanting to lose someone who paid so much attention to him and hung off Emmy’s every lonely word, he gave himself entirely to Javier at winter’s end, was convinced to run off with the man in the spring, and by summer’s end Emmy told the man he loved him more than he’d ever loved anyone and was rewarded with the revelation that his boyfriend was a vampire. By mid-autumn, Javier offered to turn Emmy so they could be together for eternity and Emmy agreed without a second thought.

Of course, Emmy’s turning did not go as planned and Javier, realizing he’d made a mistake and turned someone who quite literally didn’t have the stomach for vampirism, ditched a very hurt and confused Emmy not two hours after their ‘vampire wedding’. One would think Emmy would never go back to someone who’d betrayed his trust so deeply, but two weeks in the hell-on-earth that was the warring vampire society of Dallas, TX sent Emmy running.

And as they say, sometimes it's better to dance with the devil you know than the ones you don’t.
