chennai to shirdi flight packages
Mystical Sai Rare facts and events
Following are some less known facts about Shirdi and Sai baba:
 1. Khandoba Temple
Just in front of the Khandoba temple is a rectangular sandpit, which is in fact for fire-walking. Although rarely used, there is still an annual festival where villagers gather for an exuberant night of Bhajans and  express chennai to shirdi flight packages their devotion by daringly walking on hot coal bed. The festival is known as Champa Shashti and takes place in December – shashti means ‘six’ and the festival occurs six day after the new moon.
 2. Gurusthan
Gurusthan means “place of the guru”. It is where Baba spent most of his time when he first came to Shirdi, and also where, according to Baba, the tomb of his guru is located, by the Neem tree. Once when  villagers were digging foundation for Sathe wada, just behind the Neem tree, they came across some    bricks in the soil and what looked like the opening of a tunnel. Baba told them that this was the site of the tomb of his ancestors and it would be better not to disturb them. Baba said that there was a tunnel that ran from here to Chavadi. On other occasion he told that the site also contained the tomb of Kabir.
 3. Dwarkami
It is typically unique of Sai Baba that he regarded a place of worship – Baba’s mosque or Dwarkami – as a Mother. He once told a visitor “ Dwarka-Mai is this very mosque”. She makes those who ascend there steps fearless. This Masjid Ayi is very kind. Those who come here reach their goal.” Many      devotees relate  to Baba as a mother and many as a god. These to Aspects are so perfectly synthesized in Baba – his care for smallest detail as well as the ultimate spiritual attainment- is perhaps the most beautiful and unique aspect of Shirdi Sai.
 4. Invisible Baba
Once, few visitors at Shirdi requested Shri Sai for permission to take his photo. Sai however refused but on being persuaded, allowed only his feet to be photographed. Taking advantage of this the visitors took his chennai to shirdi flight packages   full snap. In the photograph only his Feet came out. In another instance, a photographer  without Sai’s consent took his snap and the picture that came off was of the photographer’s own guru and not that of Shri Sai.
 5. Shirdi is one of Maharashtra’s most important pilgrimage towns. Sai Baba, a 19th century saint who brought together   people from all faiths, is the presiding deity of the shrine around which the town’s economy runs.
 6. The stunning temple that stands at the center of Shirdi’s economy was constructed in 1922, four years after  Sai Baba’s death, the shrine was commissioned and privately owned by one Shrimant Gopalrao, a millionaire from Nagpur, who was a devotee of Sai Baba. Today it is owned and run by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust
 7. Shirdi’s literacy rate is more than the national average.
According to the 2011 census, Shirdi’s average literacy rate is 70 per cent with male literacy at 76 per cent and female literacy at 62 per cent. The national average literacy rate is 59.5 per cent.

History and Mysteries of Shirdi Sai Baba
The famous Shirdi Sai Baba also presents several mysteries for his biographers. But if we regard his known history alone, his life comes out as highly fascinating enough. His birth year, month and date are not known but his  death was on 15th Oct 1918. He was born at Pathri (District Parbhani) under Nizam’s Dominion and moved over to Shirdi as a grown up. Details of almost all his youthful years chennai to shirdi flight packages  till arrival in Shirdi are unknown like the 18 dark and unknown years of Jesus Christ. It seems that  Sai Baba has mentioned that he was a soldier for Rani of Jhansi (1857) and so his year of birth would have been perhaps between 1835 to 1840.
However, biographer Narasimhaswamiji, Founder-President of All India Sai Samaj, has stated that his parents were Brahmins who handed him over at a tender age to a fakir. What follows merely in outline is said  to be as per Baba's own accounts. The fakir died after five years and the child went to the care of one  Gopal Rao Deshmukh (called ‘Gurudeva’), a great devotee of Tirupati Balaji. After spending nearly ten years in pious learning from Gurudeva, Sai went westward from native Pathri and arrived in Shirdi. But he did not at once settle down at Shirdi. He went on some wanderings and then returned there.
His initial years in Shirdi were spent as an ascetic living under a neem (margosa) tree. Later he shifted to a mosque and lived there all his life, for nearly 50 years. He called the mosque “Dwarkamayi” (The place in Dwarka where Krishna was born). This is just one instance of his puzzling identity-dichotomy, whether a   Muslim or Hindu. He preached ways to attain god. He spoke of love and brotherhood. Celibacy, truth and austerity marked his life. He wore a single piece kufni, distributed vibhuti and would tell the devotees “Allah Malik” and “Allah bala karenge”. He would do ‘japa’ and ‘dhikr’, the utterance of god’s name. He would do namaz and chant Al-Fatiha . He did not however indulge in or perform any detailed rituals of worship.
Sai was how he was referred to after his fakir-like life began in Shirdi, and his real name was not known. He preached from chennai to shirdi flight packages  the Hindu texts such as Ramayana, Bhagwat Gita etc and from Kuran. As per the accounts of his  contemporaries, he was very familiar with these scriptures. He recommended worship, prayers, patience, faith and love. He preached Hindu-Muslim unity. All his preaching was oral and he did not leave any writings.
It seems that he would tell the Hindus, "Continue your Rama worship, and worship the stones which your forefathers worshipped". He presented to the Hindu followers, things like lingams, padukas, pictures and coins with  Hindu gods etc. To Muslims, he would only advise the following of the tenets of the  Kuran. To those Hindus who thought he was a Muslim, it seems he would say, "I am a Muslim, don't come to me". Several Hindu devotees regarded him as a Satguru Samartha. A Guru is an ordinary teacher, a Satguru tries to show the pathway to god and a Satguru Samartha is a guru with siddhi attainments leading you to god. It is said that Baba told the Hindus who came to him as followers, "I am a brahmin. Give me dakshina. This place where I am sitting is not a mosque; it is a brahmin's mosque. It is Dwaraka Mayee".
He himself is said to have come out of a three day Samadhi (death) in 1886. He was a clairvoyant. It seems that the elements like fire, air and water obeyed his orders. He could order storms to cease and cold   breeze to blow, to save people or comfort them. He blessed childless couples and they  had children. He is credited with being physically present at more than one place. He could cure the   incurably sick. He could restore the eyesight to the blind. He could light lamps  with just water. Many of those who witnessed the miracles or benefitted from them, have left accounts of them. His miracles were meant to help the distressed and not to demonstrate his divine nature. All these entailed his being regarded as a living god by some of his close admirers/disciples.
At the age of nearly 80, Sai Baba passed away at 3 pm on 15th Oct 1918. His body lays interred in what is called a Samadhi Mandir now. There are huge bundles of writings about Sai Baba from those who lived during his times or subsequently.
There are nearly 2000 Sai Temples around the world. The Shirdi Sai Sansthan is perhaps the richest temple-sansthan in India after Tirupati.

The Sai Baba Movement
 Sabka Malik Ek
Baba understood the important aspects of Islam and Hinduism and also the blind customs in both. Having been brought up by Roshan Shah who was a Sufi saint, and later by Venkusa (devotee of Lord Venkateswara) who being a Hindu, used to take Baba to the Samadhis
of great persons of both the religions and explain their teachings and theories in detail.
So Baba’s teachings combined elements of both Hinduism and Islam, thereby, trying to achieve communal harmony between both these religions. He shunned any kind of regular rituals in both the religions,
but allowed the practice of namaz, chanting of Al-Fatiha, and Qur’an readings at Muslim festival times. Occasionally reciting  chennai to shirdi flight packages   the Al-Fatiha himself, Baba also enjoyed listening to Moulu & Qawwalis accompanied with the Tabla & Sarangi twice daily. He also wore clothing reminiscent of a Sufi fakir. Best is organized by Sri  Sairam Subhayatra. Sai Baba also opposed all sorts of persecutions on religious or caste background. Sai Baba was also an opponent of religious orthodoxy – both Hindu and Muslim.
In 1897, Gopalrao Gund proposed holding the Urus, as in expression of his gratitude to Baba. Baba gave his permission for the celebration and fixed the day for Ramnavami. This was an ingenious touch of Baba’s. Urus is a Muslim festival honoring a Muslim Saint and by holding the Urus on the day of a Hindu festival, the two communities were brought closer tighter, in a natural yet remarkable way.
Hindu & Muslim influence was seen in his life also. He lived in an abandoned mosque which was rechristened as “Dwarakamai”,
which means Mother Dwarika (Birth place of Lord Krishna)
and begged for alms till his last day. By appearance he was a Muslim fakir and wore a tattered kafni (long robe) and wrapped a   chennai to shirdi flight packages   cloth around his head with a large knot. But his ears were pierced which is a Hindu sign. He had intimate knowledge of both the Hindu Sciptures & the Quran. He regularly recited Hindu and Muslim prayers and encouraged his disciples to follow the holy books of their religion. Our gives comfort feel, safe and happy journey. He took Mahasamadhi on 15th October`1918 at 02.30 pm, when the Hindu Festival “Dassara” & the Muslim Festival “Muharram” fell on the same day.
So Baba used to celebrate Hindu festivals like Rama-Navami, Guru Purnima etc and also permitted the “Sandal” procession of the Mohammedans and on Id festivals, he allowed Mohammedan’s to say their prayers (Namaz) in his masjid. Once in the Moharum festival, some Mohammedans proposed to construct a Tajiya or Tabut in the Masjid, keep it there for some days and afterwards take it in the procession through the village. Sai Baba allowed the keeping of the Tabut for four days and on the fifth day removed it out of the Masjid without the least compunction. Our are available at affordable tour package cost. He allowed all devotees to celebrate festivals at Shirdi, according to their preferences and religious adopted by them.
 The Sai Baba Movement
The Shirdi Sai Baba movement began in the 19th century, during Baba’s lifetime itself, while he was staying in Shirdi. A local Khandoba priest, Mhalsapati is believed to have been his first devotee. However, in the 19th century Sai Baba’s followers were only a small group of Shirdi inhabitants and a few people from other parts of India. It started developing in the 20th century and even faster in 1910 with the Sankirtans of Das Ganu, who spread Sai Baba’s fame to the whole of India.
Since 1910 numerous Hindus and Muslims from all parts of India started coming to Shirdi. During his life Hindus worshipped him with Hindu rituals and Muslims revered him greatly, considering him to be a saint. Later (in the last years of Sai Baba’s life) Christians and Zoroastrians started joining the Shirdi Sai movement.

Spiritual leader
Shirdi Sai Baba, also called Sai Baba of Shirdi (born 1838—died October 15, 1918) spiritual leader dear to Hindu and Muslim devotees  throughout India and in diaspora communities as far flung as the United States and the Caribbean. The name Sai Baba comes from sai, a Persian word used by Muslims to denote a holy person, and baba, Hindi for father.
Sai Baba’s early years are a mystery. Most accounts mention his birth as a Hindu Brahman and his subsequent adoption by a Sufi fakir, or mendicant. Later in life he claimed to have had a Hindu guru. Sai Baba arrived  in Shirdi, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, about 1858 and remained there until his death in 1918.
Sai Baba of Shirdi was a crown jewel among Saints. He lived his entire life out in a small and obscure village in India. The villagers of Shirdi each claimed him as a member of their own religion, Muslim or Hindu, but really he came  chennai to shirdi flight packages   to make peace between them and he always encouraged each to stick to his own religious path. He drew devotees from all over the country though he never traveled and never cared for fame. Over and over his devotees found he knew their innermost thoughts and details of their lives. He effected cures, conferred health, happiness, and prosperity, and made childless couples conceive. His real  purpose though was to awaken in them a longing for the spiritual life. Thousands thought of him as a wonderful saint with miraculous powers but his innermost circle knew him chennai to shirdi flight packages   to be in incarnation of God himself. Some said of Datta, others of Shiva, still others saw ecstatic visions of their own beloved Guru or chosen Ishta (personalized icon of God) while gazing at Him. He himself said only that he was the humble servant of God and pleased and furthered all who came in contact with him. Many books have been written about Shirdi Sai Baba but the Shri Sai Satcharita, the story of Sai Baba's life and actions  was written in his own lifetime and is best known among Sai devotees. Almost everyone like to visit Shirdi Sai Temple is organized by Sri Sairam Subhayatra provide a safe, secure journey. Just before leaving his body he told a disciple he would be reborn in a certain village 8 years hence and so it came to pass.
At first denounced by the villagers of Shirdi as a madman, by the turn of the century Sai Baba had a considerable following of Hindus and Muslims, attracted by his compelling teachings and his performance of apparent miracles, which often involved the granting of wishes and the healing of the sick. He wore a Muslim    cap and for the better part of his life lived in an abandoned mosque in Shirdi, where he daily kept a fire  burning, a practice reminiscent of some Sufi orders. Yet he named that mosque Dvarakamai, a decidedly Hindu name, and is said to have had substantial knowledge of the Puranas, the Bhagavadgita, and various branches of Hindu thought. Sai Baba’s teachings often took the form of paradoxical parables and displayed both his disdain for the rigid formalism that Hinduism and Islam could fall prey to and his empathy for the poor and diseased.
Shirdi is a major pilgrimage site, and other spiritual figures like Upasani Baba and Meher Baba credited the teachings of Sai Baba.

Sai Baba of Shirdi
Sai Baba of Shirdi was a crown jewel among Saints. He lived his entire life out in a small and obscure village in India. The villagers of Shirdi each claimed him as a member of their own religion, Muslim or Hindu, but really he came to make peace between them and he always encouraged each to stick to his own religious path. He drew devotees from all over the country though he never traveled and never cared for fame. Over and over his devotees found he knew their innermost thoughts and details of their lives. He effected cures, conferred health, happiness, and prosperity, and made childless couples conceive. His real purpose though was to awaken chennai to shirdi flight packages  in them a  longing for the spiritual life. Thousands thought of him as a wonderful saint with miraculous powers but his innermost circle knew him to be in incarnation of God himself. Some said of Datta, others of Shiva, still others saw ecstatic visions of their own beloved Guru or chosen Ishta (personalized icon of God) while gazing at Him. He himself said only that he was the humble servant of God and pleased and furthered all who came in contact with him. Just before leaving his body he told a disciple he would be reborn in a certain village 8 years hence and so it came to pass.
Sai Baba was first seen as a youth of sixteen sitting under a neem tree in Shirdi. None knew his origin or past. Even then he seemed to be full of the knowledge of Brahman. He had no desire for worldly objects, even in dream. He kicked out Maya (illusion) and Mukti (illumination) was serving at   his feet. This young lad, fair, smart, and very handsome, was first seen under a Neem tree seated in  an Asan (meditative posture). The people of the village were wonderstruck to see  such a young lad practicing hard penance, not minding heat and cold. By day he associated with none. by night he was afraid of nobody. People were wondering whence that young chap turned up. His form and features were so handsome that a mere look endeared him to all. He went to nobody's door, always sat near the Neem tree. Outwardly he looked very young; but by his action He was really a great soul. He was the embodiment of dispassion and an enigma to all.
A saint name Gangagir who frequented Shirdi said of him on first setting eyes on him "Blessed is Shirdi, that it got this precious jewel". Another saint by name Anandanath said "This is a precious diamond in reality, though he looks like an ordinary man. You will realize this in the near future."
Peace or calm was his ornament and he was the repository of wisdom. He had no love for perishable things and was  chennai to shirdi flight packages  always engrossed in self-realization. He did not know or care for honor or dishonor. The name of Allah was always on his lips. His inside was as calm as the deep sea. Though he sat in one place, he knew all the transactions of the world. Though a Siddha (realized being), he acted like a sadhaka (disciple on the spiritual path). He was meek, humble, and pleased all.
Sacred Ash (Udi) of Sai Baba
One of Baba's special features was that he always kept a sacred fire (Dhuni) burning. The ash from this fire was called Udi and it was freely distributed to the devotees at the time of their departure from Shirdi. Baba taught by His Udi that all the visible phenomena in the universe are as transient as the ash. Our bodies   composed of wood or matter of the five elements, will fall down, after all their enjoyments are over, and be reduced to ashes. In order to remind the devotees of the  chennai to shirdi flight packages  fact that their bodies will be reduced to ashes, Baba distributed Udi to them. Baba also taught by the Udi that the Brahman  is the only Reality and the universe is ephemeral and that no one in this world, be he a son, father or wife, is really ours. We come here (in this world) alone and we have to go out alone. It was found out and is even now found out, that the Udi cured many physical and mental maladies, but Baba wanted to din into the devotee's ears the principles of discrimination between the Unreal and the Real.
