#chopstick the ball python

nooo!! Actually it’s a very bad thing that he spins!!!

so to preface this, chopstick is a ball python. More specifically, he’s a bumblebee ball python. (i know it sounds adorable but PLEASE bear with me here)

in order to get a bumblebee ball python, you need a pastel ball python (first attached) these guys have a lighter color pigmentation which makes them more yellow instead of muted brown. (These are not the issue w chopstick)

for a bumblebee, you need a spider ball python. (Second attached) they have the normal ball python coloring, but they have incredible patterning up their sides, and reduced pattern across their back!! (cool, right??? no)

when spiders were first produced (and honestly when any new color or pattern of snake is produced) they are often line bred back to their parents or their siblings so that a specific gene is narrowed down and desired. This has been done for ages in the reptile industry and most times it doesn’t result in any abnormalities if done correctly.

chopstick comes from an incredibly long line of inbred snakes with characteristics that were not taken into consideration: people just cared about what he looked like. This has caused severe neurological issues that causes his head to corkscrew. This means he doesn’t understand or have any comprehension as to what way he is moving. He goes upside down, he stargazes, he often has his belly exposed to the sky (which is REALLY uncommon for snakes to do)

People have woken up with their snakes drowned in their water bowls.

I am one of the lucky people, though idk how much longer i can say this. I’ve had chopstick for five years and his corkscrewing has just gotten worse. He’s in a smaller tank than a ball python should be housed in, and his water bowl is incredibly shallow. (I’m looking over at chopstick from my desk rn, and he is stargazing, flipping his head upside down)

tl;dr don’t buy spider morph ball pythons

How many and what pets do you have?

i have 4 pets!I have a cat called Benji, a chocolate labrador called Henry, a yellow belly ball python named Chopstick and a bearded dragon called Balti :3

i believe its the alcohol specifically, my ball python mistook my armpit for a mouse once (understandable) and my roommate detached him with a combination of gentle leverage with a chopstick and a drop of vodka
