TEMPLE NEWS: Saratoga Springs Utah Temple Groundbreaking Announced

The Church has announced groundbreaking plans for the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Saturday, 19 October 2019, with Elder Craig C. Christensen, President of the Utah Area, presiding. The Church also released an artist’s rendering of the temple. President Thomas S. Monson announced the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple during the April 2017 General Conference. It will be the 18th temple built in Utah and the fifth in Utah County.

The Cedar City Utah Temple was designed to evoke pioneer-era temples and buildings in southern Utah. Exterior art glass of the Cedar City Temple features a type of columbine flower common in the region’s high mountain valleys. The temple hymn “High on a Mountain Top” was written by Joel Hill Johnson in the Cedar City suburb of Enoch.

The Rexburg Idaho Temple is five stories tall and was built next to the BYU-Idaho campus. Between the change of the two-year Ricks College to the four-year BYU-Idaho and the dedication of the Rexburg Temple, Rexburg became the fastest-growing city in Idaho, jumping from 17,500 people in 2000 to 28,000 in 2008. The dedication of the Rexburg Idaho Temple was President Thomas S. Monson’s first “official act” as president of the Church. As of December 2011, the Rexburg Temple district is the only temple district in the Church to be comprised of mostly young adult stakes.
