鉂岋笍 Alexander lost his SF match in Cincinnati against Djokovic 7-6 7-5
It was never clear how Alexander would manage this match, having played continuous days without rest, including days with both singles & doubles. And, the nature of Friday's schedule meant that, less than 24 hours after he was last on court, he was playing his semi-final. Between this and him taking on the most accomplished hard court player ever, who was much better rested, it is amazing that Alexander managed to push Djokovic as hard as he did.
In the first set, Alexander had 3 break points on Djokovic's opening service game, but sadly, Djokovic held the game. Both players then held serve without issue until Alexander's nerve-wracking game at 5-4, when some untimely mistakes and increased aggression from Djokovic saw him face 3 set points. But with efficient serving and two beautiful forehands, Alexander tied the score 5-5.
The first set went to tie-break, and Alexander was broken for 2-1 when his drop volley went into the net. Djokovic used his unreturnable serve for the rest of the tie-break to take it 7-5.
The bad luck continued in the second set, when a drop in Alexander's energy led to him making 3 unforced errors in his first game to face 2 break points. He saved one, but another error saw him get broken. But just when all hope seemed lost and Djokovic was serving for the match at 5-4, Alexander rose his level to break back for 5-5. Sadly it didn't last, and Djokovic broke again for 6-5, serving out the match 7-6 7-5.
I am sad about the result, but I really don't think Alexander could have given any more. It shouldn't be undermined how amazing it is that he made it to the semis of a Masters, and got a top 3 win en route, after everything he has been through. I couldn't be prouder of him, I just hope he isn't disheartened by this loss. There are so many positives to take away from this tournament, one being that he will now be world no.12 鉂わ笍
I really hope he can rest well now and refocus for the last Grand Slam of the year, where he has nothing to defend.
鉃★笍 Onto the US Open

Cincinnati MD R1: Jamie Murray/Michael Venus def. Nikola Cacic/Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-2 Match Stats
馃摳 Tennis TV
J. Murray/M. Venus had a solid, convincing opening to their Cincinnati Masters campaign. Their intuitive play at the net not only created some of their 4 opportunities to break, but also converted 75% of them thanks to the additional pressure it caused on Cacic/Novak, who were not able to convert their 3 break point chances, most of which came from the first set (including the deciding point).
It did not stop in their return games. Landing 63% of their first serves, J. Murray/M. Venus had a strong showing from their first serves with a 87% winning percentage. It made sense that they sought after Cacic/Novak's second serves, with the Serbian pair having a 48% second serve winning rate despite both pairs double-faulting five times.
In the second set, the Menus will face the first seeds Wesley Koolhof/Neal Skupski, who received a bye to the second round. In this match, every element counts with a possibility of it being a close match (and a classic) as a result of being an early blockbuster on paper. A slight difference on balance, whether it came from the net or the baseline, would be extremely important. Definitely a recommended match to tune in to!
