#cj: nico solo book

instead of tartarus-which isnt an original idea- why cant we just have a bunch of teenaged shenanigans at chb and cj, as a collection of short stories, for the nico solo book? like, how much time do we actually spend at chb in particular? like, 8 chapters in total, most of which are in tlt? we barely know anything about the atmosphere, and people have been asking for ages to just see the demigods being teenagers. like, i get that we wouldnt get a group of people smoking weed in a clearing in the forest several times a week or something bc it's still a children's book, but wheres the banter? part of the problem with hoo was that it was a group of 10 people who hardly knew each other.

this would easily work as a nico solo book, anyway, as nico has never really felt like they fitted in either camp. his journey to feel safe and at home at chb and with the people around him would be far more interesting than just cloning what percy and annabeth did several books previously.

I GOT AN AU IDEA YESTERDAY

Short of it: Nico doesn’t return to CHB (immediately) after running away in The Titan’s Curse. Instead, he travels (partially through the labyrinth), finds Camp Jupiter, and hovers around there for the next couple of years.

Fun possible details: [under a read-more for length]

Nico bumps into Reyna, who’s heading to Camp Jupiter for the first time, and they team up/become friends and go to camp together.

Nico makes more friends because CJ is less afraid of him than CHB is. Also, because CJ makes sure to feed their campers well, Nico doesn’t end up with as much of an eating problem. 

Also also: Living in the Pacific North West vs living in the North East. Ya boi keeps his tan and doesn’t get a vitamin deficiency from lack of sunlight.

Nico being all around a bit less lethargic/stoic. Still emo, but he bounces back to more of a TOA!Nico much earlier.

Nico possibly bringing back Hazel earlier, if he can figure out how to do that.

Nico having just a generally good support net far earlier on.

ALSO: ACCESS TO LGBT+ RESOURCES. Rome was gay, man. CJ probably is too. Nico gets some help waaay earlier working through that internalized homophobia.

Nico helping CJ during the Titan War!! They probably flatten Kronos/Saturn’s palace in no time because Nico can literally just control the earth/stone. Remember in BoTL when he made a giant black marble wall that crushed some stuff? Something like that, or an earthquake or big crevice or something and then all the Romans call it a good day’s work and go home.

Then Nico goes “hm. Hey guys, yknow, Kro-I mean, Saturn’s in New York. We should totally beat him up.”

Instead of Nico bringing reinforcements from the Underworld to the Battle for Manhattan, Nico rolls up with reinforcements from the Underworld AND Camp Jupiter’s forces.

Percy: ......Since when are there SIX Big Three Kids?!?!

Percy probably wouldn’t recognize Nico in the slightest, given that it would have been literal years since they last interacted and Nico has changed a lot since then.

Note from my friend: CJ being at the Battle for Manhattan probably means we’d get that good ol’ scene of “’Greeks! Let’s, um, fight stuff!’” much earlier as well. Some nice comparison of fighting styles while they absolutely decimate the Titan Army.

Speaking of: Greek vs Roman fighting styles against the Titan Army. CHB campers do best in solo combat because that’s how they’re trained. CJ does best in group combat because that’s how they’re trained. The Titan Army is kind of relying on pushing CHB all together and forcing them to fight together in a manner they’re not proficient in. Add CJ into the mix? That plan doesn’t work anymore. Titan Army is doomed.

Just. Nico being healthy and happy and friends with Jason and Reyna and Hazel at least ~2-5 books earlier. Also less people die in the Titan War and Thalia and Jason get reunited a whole book early. So many things.
