here’s more disconnected scribbles :3
this one is cloudfam au (Shirakumo rescues baby Tenko, who then gets adopted by All Might and they all end up a big found family)
set after All Might gets out of the hospital after defeating AfO for the first time!
___
"Yagi-san, you're here! I mean, you're alright!" The boy - he's not really a boy anymore, Toshinori, stop it - has jumped up from his desk and is now hovering nervously, hands moving about as if he wants to reach out and touch, but he doesn't know if he should.
It's a good thing Toshinori doesn't have to pretend with his muscle form, here. He doesn't think he'd have the energy.
"I am here," he confirms, and it comes out very tired. He doesn't like it.
"Give the man some room to breathe," comes a grumbled order from where Aizawa is slumped over on the couch in the corner, laptop open on his lap, a steaming mug of coffee in hand. He must've come straight out of another night patrol.
"It's fine, Aizawa-kun," Toshinori says, and coughs, which was the wrong thing to do because both boys' eyes widen at the sight of blood that Toshinori isn't quick enough to hide. He knows he already looks terrible, he's lost so much weight while in that coma, and he's lucky to be alive in the first place.
"Oh God," Shirakumo says, a tad frantic, "Do you... do you need something? A doctor? Do you need to go back to the hospital?"
Toshinori cringes at the thought of going back there. He knows he'll have to spend a ton of time around doctors in the future, but he'd rather avoid it where he can.
"No, no, this is normal. It's... I'm fine." He allows the boy to lead him over to the couch anyway, and Aizawa shuffles aside to make room for him.
Sitting down is a lot better. Toshinori takes a moment to breathe before peering up into still worried, blue eyes. Shirakumo always worries about everyone, and he wears the fact like a badge of honor. His heart is ten sizes too big for his body. No wonder the other two of their set have been giving him lovesick glances since Toshinori met the three of them.
"We only heard you were alive and that you'd heal. We didn't want to press Tenko for details," Shirakumo explains.
"Thank you for that," Toshinori murmurs. Tenko took it all very hard. He was the one trying to live in the hospital while Toshinori was out. Gran Torino and Nighteye both took care of him during that time, and Toshinori knows that the three younger heroes did their best to visit a couple times, too. During the first two weeks, Tenko had once more latched onto Shirakumo, who had been his first true source of comfort when he was a child. The sky hero had apparently taken this time off of work to help, but had eventually needed to go back to the agency, leaving Tenko with his official emergency caretakers.
"I am not going to die immediately," Toshinori explains, and he winces at the alarm on Shirakumo's face. He can feel Aizawa tense up beside him, too.
"I..." Toshinori sighs and pulls up his shirt, exposing the scarring, reminiscent of cracks in a wall after the impact of a fist. "I'm never going to be healthy again. There's... a time limit to All Might now, and hero work is going to put a strain on my body."
"So retire," Aizawa says bluntly, as if that was the obvious conclusion.
Maybe it is. Nighteye thinks so, too, after all. And doesn’t that thought tear open a still fresh wound?
Toshinori still shakes his head, tugging his shirt back down. "Show the villains that I'm weak? There would be chaos. The Symbol of Peace must stand strong."
Aizawa scoffs. "There's plenty of capable heroes in this country. If they can't pick up where you left off, what's the point? You're going to die some day, even if it's fifty years into the future in some retirement home. You can't be the Symbol forever."
"Shouta's right," Shirakumo says, "Wouldn't leaving on your own terms be better? You could set up plans for after. Find a successor or something. Plenty of heroes do that, right?" He frowns. "... preferably not in the Endeavor way."
Toshinori looks up at the boy. There's stubble on his face, is he trying to grow a chin beard? Or has he just been lazy? But he's so popular with the public, he always takes care of his appearance. He doesn't look much different from the sixteen year old Toshinori first met. Still standing tall and broad, maybe even a little broader. His eyes are bright and soft as ever, his hair untamable even wrestled into a high ponytail. He looks like the kind of hero anyone would trust. The kind to save the day with a smile.
Toshinori takes a breath. "You're right. I do need a successor. Are you up for the challenge?"
At his side, Aizawa chokes on his coffee.
