I am shamelessly blaming @charliemwrites for this little ficlet before I even manage to get my (wholeass team wtf) OCs character profiles written and posted.
Tags/CWs: Written while at work, not proofread, in which Mimic is forever hopeless, wholesome, my captain is shamelessly designed after an Overwatch character (fite me).
Result of brain worms under the cut
Mimic could tell by the way her hands ached that a storm would be rolling in soon. She often joked that weather prediction was the only benefit to having arthritis in her 30s. The dull ache had her absentmindedly massaging her hands as she sat in the common room of a different team's base. Captain Reinhart and Captain Alistair were in the latter's office, discussing the team up for the upcoming mission. Rusty was chatting away idly with you and Keegan, clearly enjoying every moment that he made the two of you laugh.
The team up was going to utilize you, Nova, Rusty, and Mimic, under Captain Alistair's command. Once discussions were finished, Captain Bastian Reinhart was going to head back to his own team's home base. Mimic didn't mind working with other teams. She enjoyed meeting new people, and spending time in new places. She was currently enjoying the sight of your face lighting up every time Rusty got you to laugh. It was adorable.
She feels a hand come down on her shoulder, large, warm, and gentle. Her first thought was that it was Reinhart, ever the father figure checking up on his little Maus. Mimic was expecting bright blue eyes when she turned to look up at the person behind her. The dark brown eyes staring back at her were a surprise. Those eyes, combined with a gentle, friendly smile were enough to make her cheeks flush a soft pink.
"Alright, Lieutenant?" Captain Alistair asks her, with a slight nod to her hands. Mimic nods and quickly tucks her hands between her plush thighs, her blush getting darker.
"Oh! Yes, sir. I'll be fine. Just a little achy with the inclement weather incoming." She replies, her voice surprisingly timid for a special operative. She stands, moving herself out from under his hand as politely as she can, trying to think of an excuse to let her escape. Rusty picks that exact moment to call her over and invite her to join his conversation with you and Keegan. Mimic excuses herself with a polite nod to Captain Alistair, joining the three of you to help Rusty tell a story.
"Don't you worry too much about Maus, Castle." Reinhart says, clapping the other man on the shoulder. "She is not one for accepting help willingly. But she will not neglect herself, either. Do not be put off by her being skittish." The giant German man grins down at Captain Alistair, who looks back over at Mimic, an idea already forming in the back of his mind.

CoD Notes: BO1 Finished
I had been worried that Black Ops 1 would unfairly feel like a step backwards for me since I decided to do MW1/2/3 back to back and MW3 came out a year later. This was not the case. Black Ops feels like such a revelation to the franchise. The story isn’t high art, but it feels so much more involved than anything else in the franchise up to this point. The voice cast is far more stacked than ever before. Alex Mason as a protagonist is far more interesting than any previous protagonist. I think his largest competition is Soap, who only gets to be more than silent player avatar in MW2/3 and even then isn’t as interesting as Mason.
I mean, this one game has so many more memorable characters than any other Call of Duty. Ed Harris’s Hudson, Ice Cube’s Bowman, Gary Oldman’s Reznov, Woods all stand out but even Weaver, Dragovich, Steiner, that one scientist guy in Kowloon, are all so much more vivid than the tryhard wannabe NPC’s of something like Ghosts (oops, I beat many games in a row without taking notes).
The plot twist alone elevates this game from “stupid annual release” to video game hall of fame. I’d argue that video games are the best medium for plot twists. It’s no Bioshock, but the Reznov twist is so fun and so well executed. I remember it blowing my mind as a kid and it was a ton of fun to see all the little hints as I went through this time. But I’ve already talked about the game at large twice. Let’s get into the last few missions.
Crashed plane assault mission was fine. I noticed the radio shout out a “Sergeant Blundell” which I recognized as Jason Blundell, the main Black Ops guy, this time. Also very funny and on the nose to have a section set to Sympathy for the Devil.
Snowy mountain assault was just okay. The top-down tactical part was clearly a stepping stone to the Strike Team missions of Black Ops 2. Didn’t love that section. But it was kind of funny to get to play as Hudson. This series seems to have some sort of quota to meet on having multiple playable characters. I did struggle really hard on one checkpoint in this level.
Then is the Vietnam mission where you get to fly a helicopter. I remember liking that part as a kid and it’s fine now. I’ll admit that these ‘Nam levels blend together for me.
But then we’ve got the Rebirth Island assault where you sneak around as Mason and do a gas-mask armored strike as Hudson. It’s pretty cool to get to see the same moment from two perspectives, a rare good use for having multiple playable characters. I will admit that Hudson’s breakable gas mask ended my life many times though.
Then the big plot twist as a cutscene mission, which is very fun.
Then finally the big boat assault and underwater base. Nothing too special gameplay wise, but generally a nice capper on the game.
And I love the implication that Mason killed JFK. I mean, it’s a very strong implication, but I suppose they never outright confirm it was him who pulled the trigger. I half expected the final scene of zooming in on Mason photoshopped into the background of a JFK pic to turn into a “JFK assassination simulator” for a second, but instead it transitions directly into the opening cutscene for Five, which is such a treat.
I did manage to get to round, like, 9, I wanna say, on Five. Sadly died right I before I could PaP because I forgot how the weapon thief mechanic worked and ended up double buying a gun. The voice lines in this map are even funnier to me as an adult who has more context on this era.
Overall, I think this game is peak CoD as far as campaigns go. First, set out to tell a story that would work even outside of this series, then drench it in a particular era and add a bunch of fun weapons and setpieces.
In the rankings so far, I think this is going at the top.

There's A Soldier In All of Us - (2010)
Spot for "Call of Duty: Black Ops" released in 2010. I love this commercial because it really tapped in to the perspective of its audience. While many of us will never see or touch a battlefield, we all feel that way when we log on to COD. It was also to see such a cool commercial and not need any gameplay to create it.

Hetalia: World Series Episode #26 Transcript
This episode has Japan's Foundation Day, Japan starting a diet, and the first part of "Nekotalia".
Italy: Hey, Japan!
Japan: Auh…
Italy: I wanted to wish you a happy birthday!
Germany: I think you mean “Happy National Foundation Day”. That is a lot more important than a simple birthday.
Japan: Uah…I thank you for your kindness! They're pretty. I don't think anyone has given me such beautiful flowers before.
Italy: No problemo! So, spill the beans; tell me exactly how old you're going to be this year!
Japan: Oh, it seems like forever. I am not certain I'll be able to remember. When I was small, I was happy to celebrate my birthday. But now I just look at it and say, “Well, here comes another birthday…”
Italy: Now you're kind of starting to sound like my grandpa!
Japan: Getting old is not for the weak-willed. Things start falling off.
Italy: Disgustingggg!
Japan: Plus, I have high blood pressure. If I'm not careful with what I eat, I could end up like an American.
Italy: Stop, you're freaking me out!
Germany: Eh…no. You'll be fine. Just go easy on the salt.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Germany: Hetalia!
{Caption: Hetalia}
Germany: Starting today, I shall rule your diet as if it were a defenseless Baltic country!
{Caption: Pickled Yam}
Japan: Wait, I am already eating this pickled yam! And I had one for breakfast too, is that okay?
Germany: I will rip that heart-destroying nub of salt from your bloated face!
{Caption: Raw Fat Blood Sausage}
Japan: What?! Then what about some salted cod roe?
Germany: No way.
Japan: Auh!
Germany: Throw it in the trash can.
Japan: How about caviar?! Caviar is okay, right?!
{Caption: Salmon Roe}
Germany: Ah, yes, of course it is, if you would prefer to drop dead!
Japan: Auh…I can't live without sardines!
Germany: I will break you in half!
Japan: My sushi! Please don't take my sushi away! Listen! I will go insane without sushi!
Italy: Are you guys doing a Mamet play again?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japan: Hetalia!
{Caption: Hetalia}
Germany: Okay then. That will be all for today's group training.
Italy: Super yippee!
Germany: You stay. You'll be getting my undivided attention.
Japan: Nh…auh…yes, sir. Heaheah…
Germany: You'd better start running!
Japan: I thought I was!
Italy's thoughts: This is really weird! Japan is getting totally beat up by Germany today!
Oah? What's this paper…oh…ohhhh…oh…auh…auhhh…
{Text on paper #1: Dr. Steiner, 98-xxxx}
{Text on paper #2: Do light training every day. Proper amount of exercise. Aerobic exercises such as jogging and yoga. Avoid taking too much salt. Lay off the drinks, too}
Japan: Ohh…hauh…hauh…
Germany: Another lap!
Japan: Aah! Auh…okay, I am not liking this at all.
{Caption: Smirk smirk}
Italy: Heyyy!
Japan: Nh!
Italy: Ahaha!
Japan: Nh…what is this?
Italy: Oh ho ho!

Italy-cat [narrating]: Ciao!
(Ciao!: Hello! → Italian)
Italy-cat [narrating]: I'm Italy-cat! Today, like almost every other day, I'm on the prowl for the sweet, sweet ladies of the world! Oh, wait! I know him. Germany-cat! He's not a sweet, sweet lady, but he's got awesome biceps and a funny angry face!
Italy-cat: Hey, Germany-cat! Hee hee! All done NAPPING; grab on, let's play!
Germany-cat: Hhrrrrrgh! I will rip your throat---auh, it's you, Italy-cat. I wasn't taking a nap. I was working out battle strategies in my imagination. If I don't keep the old war machine active, it could turn peaceful. And who'd want that?
Italy-cat: Meow! I know what you mean! If I stop eating fast food for a while, my legs swell up like sausages! Don't worry, I know how to entertain myself in any situation!
Germany-cat: I will bag you and drop you off at China's house!
{Caption: Roll roll roll}
Italy-cat: How about I just roll around next to you then? Absorbing, absorbing the smelly smells of the streety into my little kitty fur!
Germany-cat: Be quiet! You're messing with the perfect tank formation I was making in my mind!
Italy-cat: Oh, Germany-cat, you're so silly with all your army stuff alululalul---ohh! Silent ninja-cat quiet!
{Caption: Ve-meow!}
Italy-cat: Ve-meow!
Japan-cat: Nnh?

If I count Adler as a villain, even though technically he belonged more in the grey zone, I think he and Menendez is the most well fleshed out of all the CoD main villains
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
As cool as Adler is as a villain, he's not that fleshed out. Many of his traits are fandom headcanons, and the most we get from canon is that he kinda sucks at his job, he's a CIA lapdog, he smokes a lot, and he's a control freak.
When it comes to fleshed out villains, Adler would have to compete against Corvus, Barkov, Rorke, Makarov, Kravchenko, Menendez, Irons, Kotch, Stitch, and others I'm missing from the campaigns I haven't seen yet. We can even throw the "soft" villains in here, like Steiner, Volkov, Javadi, Kadivar, whose sole existence is to be a side villain and may have one or two traits that make them interesting/show their personal life, but are not much more than that.
What makes Menendez so fleshed out (save for 30 years) is that his story is obvious. His shaped motives can be well tracked, from the loss of his mother, to the destruction of his home, to the burning of his sister, to the killing of his father, to being shot in the eye, to the death of his sister, to the destruction of his cartel. All of that was done by American "heroes," hence why he despises the U.S. so much.
And yet he has so many good traits. He's a learned man who is both a presenter and a philosopher. He continues to try to better himself via education, including learning with the times. He can be feisty and cunning, but also calming, friendly, and loving. And he's rich as hell, but as much as he spends it on himself, he funds technological advances and resources in lesser privileged areas to help people fight for their freedom (Bo3 discusses this). All of that are good traits. He could have been one of the greatest guys on the planet if it weren't for a single fact: his childhood taught him to see "heroes" are only stories parents make up to hide the truth.
Adler doesn't hit any of that. Hell, he doesn't even meet Makarov's standard, who is traceable as well both with his military record and criminal record. Makarov served in Berlin up until '89, then took two tours to Chechen where he was encouraged to partake in an ethnic cleansing. He got a knack for bloodlust there, and later used his military skills and hunger for a fight to conduct bombings, bank robberies, drug dealing, human trafficking, and mass murders. He's selfish as hell, and isn't afraid to switch sides or let go of people who are in his way, even if it hurts. Truth be told, Makarov's having a great time with life and it's obvious.
For Adler, if he wants to be more fleshed out, he'll need a lot more lore. Because right now, we don't know where Adler's reality truly lies.

Jacob Kenedy's Favourite Italian Recipes
Point Out La Dolce Vita, Fellini's masterpiece, and also even today the title conjures a substantial fond memories for a duration whose ghosts still load the streets of Rome. The film was partially influenced by my grandparents, previous Hollywood star Ginny (still quite active) and [New York gallerist] John" especially by the parties they tossed at their apartment in Rome. There, in the primo piano of Palazzo Caetani, the stunning elite, the literati, the artists, glitterati and artists and actors and singers made and also lived as well as taken a breath la dolce vita to the background of a Rome very various from today's. Fellini asked Ginny to look like Steiner's partner, yet she decreased" rather Steiner's residence is a facsimile of her old apartment. My grandma's porcelain figurine lamps light the scene of Steiner's event, her good friends load it (consisting of Iris Tree), as well as Ginny's naive paints embellish the wall surfaces in the movie. The doll-like picture behind Marcello's head, among hers, is of my young mum, Haidee, and Steiner's children stand in the doorway of the celebration room as my mama utilized to. Unlike Ginny's often surreal structures my mum's job is visceral and active. Her paints embellish my dining establishment Bocca di Lupo and also specify my new endeavor, Vico, outdoors as well as in. She filled me with her love from the day I was birthed, and she loaded me with food while she was at it. I matured in love with her, crazy with Italy, and also crazy with la dolce vita" the time as well as place that bore her. I feel comfortable when I land on Italian dirt, though I have actually never ever lived there and also have no Italian blood in my capillaries. I appreciate" wish for" Latin social simplicity, when I myself am as well shy to say hello there to individuals even in my very own restaurant. Therefore I take every chance to see, to ensure that I can at the very least pretend to live "the pleasant life", the land where no person is a stranger. On one browse through, Mum as well as I pick up a day in Rome en route to Sperlonga, the seaside town where John bought a level to escape Ginny's parties, and which we still maintain. We see her old residence, by Largo Argentina, ever before overwhelmed by feral cats, as well as discover the doorman's half-deaf, partner and also half-blind, set in the lodge, healing clothing. She screams with pleasure when she identifies Mama. A couple of minutes on as well as we are in the darkness of the Pantheon's dome, at Caff" Sant Eustachio, a little roastery where the coffee is poisonous substance nectar as well as the baristas so intoxicated with high levels of caffeine their skin has a spooky eco-friendly shade. It's just a number of speeds even more to Tre Scalini on Piazza Navona, which Domitian built to flood for his boat video games. There we scoff notorious tartufo (Italian rocky roadway gelato pieces) perched on Bernini's water fountain. Onwards to Campo de' Fiori, we acquire pieces of pizza al taglio and head in the direction of the ghetto, passing by Filetti di Baccal" where rotund matrons must be frying slim strips of salt cod and we're conserved! It's shut. From the destroyed arches of the Coliseum we cross the river to Trastevere, and also choose we are as well full to eat dinner at da Enzo. We go by to release our booking, which anyway they have actually lost. It scents so excellent we recant, and also spend time for a table. Later, we stroll along the Tiber for a grattachecca" cut ice, an icy relic of Emperor Nero's penchant for snow brought down from the mountains and also sweetened with fruit syrups, ours spiked with vodka, to reduce us right into the night. Never for a moment have we stopped walking, talking or eating. By doing this of eating" proper, rarefied and also tasty snacks consumed on the unguis" is typical of Italy. The young gather agreeably in the piazza, and everyone takes a night passeggiata, mingling and also talking and also revealing off. Eating gelati, crespelle (crepes), bombe (donuts), arancini, pizze, panini, polpette. This is road food here" not because it is cooked in the street necessarily, by a pedlar or from a van, yet because it is eaten there. And also there, in the acts of eating and talking as well as conference and strolling, is the heart of that Mediterranean social fluidness we are so jealous of in England.

Would You Rather ft. MidCin Suitors!
Thank you @passengersaraht and @spyroeden for tagging me! Now let’s answer some fun questions~. ^-^
•Rules:
-Copy the questions
-Answer them
-Tag your MidCin fellow bloggers! (DISCLAIMER: I’m gonna break this rule b/c 1) I’m too lazy to tag ((LOL sorry :P)) and 2) I think a lot of the MidCin community has been tagged already~. But feel free to join the fun and answer these questions!!! ^-^)
Would you rather assist Alyn in battle or Leo in politics?
Leo, because 1) I’m VERY interested in politics, so I’d have a heck of a lot to say about the subject (Which may be good in some cases and bad in others, LOL) and 2) I suck at COD, meaning I’d suck at helping Alyn w/ battle-related things. :P
Would you rather wear Byron’s eye patch for a month or wear Albert’s glasses for a year?
Although I wear glasses, my vision isn’t THAT terrible, so I don’t want to further ruin my eyesight by wearing Albert’s stronger lenses (Sorry, Al!). And I mean an eye patch would look kind of cool, right? Or maybe Byron’s the only person who can rock that look, LOL.
You accidentally destroyed something. Would you rather it be Robert’s masterpiece that he was working on for months, or Leo’s childhood scrapbook?
NOOOOOO. NOT THE CHILDHOOD CREATIONS!!! T.T Sorry Rob, but we need to preserve Leo’s precious childhood memories.
Would you rather wrestle with Byron in a pool of jell-o or do Rayvis's hair in braids?
Although the former sounds hella fun, it would be pretty messy. Plus, I’m pretty sure that Byron would beat me at every round because I’m SO EFFING SHORT (Then again, getting pinned down by the King of Stein wouldn’t be so bad, with or without the pool of jell-o, amirite? c; ).
But in reality, I’d probably braid Rayvis’s hair. Although I must warn him: I can’t fix my own hair 75% of the time, so he’d better not expect me to do a fancy French braid or fishtail braid. :P
Would you rather have your fav suitor accidently know about your sexual fantasies or have the sexy letter Byron sent be read aloud to the bureaucrats?
UHM *brb currently low-key flustered rn*
Well… since I have little-to-no sexual fantasies (b/c I am but an innocent baby child), I’ll go with the first option.
Besides, I feel like everyone in the room would be blushing excessively if I chose the second option. #KingByronIsTooSpicy xD
Would you rather declare war on Stein or resign as a princess?
Sorry Steiners, but I’m not about to give up my position as princess: I’ve got a country to rule. 👑
UNREALISTIC EXPECTATION: Maybe Byron and I could resolve this conflict quickly enough to minimize the damage between of our people and our countries? Wow this got kinda dark. Sorry, fam. 🙃
Would you rather be stuck in your study with your fav suitor *YOU’RE NOT IN A RELATIONSHIP* and fart nastily and loudly or be stuck with your least fav and hear him talk and complain all the time?
Being the oldest sibling, I’m totally used to hearing my sisters (and occasionally my parents and closest friends) talk and complain about anything and everything ALL. THE. DANG. TIME. I’m not saying that I like it: I’m just used to it. Plus, I (apparently) tend to give some thoughtful insight about their situations. #BigSisterMode
So if I must… *dramatic sigh* *pulls up a comfy chair/sofa and sits across Sid patient-to-therapist style* *whips out a pen and a notebook* Alright man, let it all out.
Would you rather booty slap your fav suitor publically or be booty slapped by your least fav secretly?
One question: HOW HARD IS THE BOOTY SLAP THO???
Aight, ya know what? I’m just gonna *ever so lightly* booty slap Giles (I’m totally gonna get in trouble later tho, uhhhhh… 😅).
Would you rather let Louis teach you how to twerk or learn pole dancing from Sid?
OH MY GOODNESS: LOUIS HOWARD TWERKING. THAT IMAGE WILL NEVER LEAVE MY MIND. xD
Well, I can’t twerk anyway (The irony is that I dance hip-hop, LOL) so TEACH ME YOUR POLE DANCING WAYS, SID.
Would you rather have your fav. suitor kissing your least fav. or have yourself kiss your least favorite?
*sigh* I guess kissing Sid wouldn’t be too bad… I mean, I wouldn’t be able to reach his face on my tiptoes anyway, so I could just kiss his hand, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Would you rather have Nico catch you having sex or catch Sid having sex?
SID BECAUSE BLACKMAIL OPPORTUNITY YESSSSS. >:D
LOL, Sid is in a lot of my answers, isn’t he? :P
Would you rather marry your fav suitor but not have babies or not marry but have babies?
I love kids, but I’m not exactly sure that I’d want my own (besides, IMO I’m a little too young to be thinking about marriage and babies as of now). But I think I can deal with marriage~ Despite having never been in a romantic relationship. #SingleForeverButThatsAight. ^-^
Would you rather have a long sexy kiss with Giles or awkward cute kiss with Albert?
Giles, I love you, but…
D’AWWWW, AL IS SUCH A CUTIE. COME HERE YOU ADORABLE THING YOUUUU. WE CAN BE AWKWARD TOGETHER. ❤❤❤
Would you rather walk around the castle in your lingerie for three days or never change your attire for a month?
IT DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT NOT WASHING THE ATTIRE, SO I’LL GO WITH THE SECOND OPTION, PLEASE AND THANK YOU. 😅

This excellent Italian market (where we often stop for a prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich or a cannoli), offers same-day weekday delivery of everything in the store - from olive oil and fancy dried pasta to bars of chocolate and jars of local jam. Aside from receiving a “care package” (AKA a bunch of flour and yeast) from an out-of-town relative, some four-year aged jamón Iberico is probably the best thing you could get delivered.
Kamonegi $ $ $ $ Japanese  in  Fremont $$$$ 1054 N 39th St 9.0 /10
Seattle’s best soba is now available to boil at home, which is some of the best news we’ve heard all week. With 24-hours notice, you can order enough fresh buckwheat noodles and broth for two people. They’re also selling spicy miso ramen kits and pints of Korean tofu stew and dashi kabocha soup. For more information, check out their menu online. You can stop by to pick anything up, but keep in mind that their delivery minimum is $100 on weekdays and $120 on Friday and Saturday.
addo Ballard $$$$ 6420 24th Ave NW
Addo launched a whole separate menu called Addo Pantry - there’s a ton of variety in what they’re offering, like Italian sauces and fresh pasta, ramen broth and noodles, homemade seasonings like fennel salt, and different cooked and raw things available in bulk like smoked salmon, cooked lechoncito pork, panzanella salad, and rice. They’ll also deliver to the entire Seattle area, including the Eastside. Check out their menu here.
Willmott's Ghost $ $ $ $ Pizza ,  Italian  in  South Lake Union $$$$ 2100 6th Ave 7.0 /10
Willmott’s Ghost is still making their thick Roman-style pizzas, like margheritas topped with cold mozzarella and potato pies with Fresno chile, thyme, and feta. But they’re also doing pizza kits that come with par-baked crusts and all the toppings you need to assemble a fresh Hawaiian, sausage, or pepperoni pizza by yourself. This option is only $5 cheaper than buying a fully-cooked pie, but it’s a great idea if you want a low-maintenance kitchen project or you have kids that need more entertainment than an endless loop of Frozen 2. The kits are available for curbside pickup only, from 2-8pm on Tuesday-Friday.
Cone & Steiner $$$$ 135 S King St
This lunchtime sandwich shop in Pioneer Square also happens to be a general store with a ton of groceries and snacks for sale, most of them local (like Fuel coffee, Ellenos Greek Yogurt, Puget Sound Kombucha, Beecher’s crackers, and more). Marjorie Spock - Wikipedia
Marjorie Spock (September 8, 1904, New Haven, Connecticut – January 23, 2008, Sullivan, Maine) was an environmentalist, author and poet, best known for her influence on Rachel Carson when the latter was writing Silent Spring. Spock was also a noted Waldorf teacher, eurythmist, biodynamic gardener and anthroposophist.[1]
Marjorie Spock was born the second child and the first daughter of six children. Her older brother was Benjamin Spock, the world-renowned pediatrician and author of The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care.
At 18, Spock studied at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland where she met and worked with Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy. She was present at the "Christmas Conference" of December 25, 1923 – January 1, 1924 when the Anthroposophical Society was refounded.[1]
When she returned to the U.S., Spock received her BA and MA degrees from Columbia University at the age of 38. She was a teacher and served as the head of a progressive school in New York City. She also taught at the Rudolf Steiner School in New York City and the Waldorf School of Garden City, New York. Spock worked closely with Ehrenfried Pfeiffer for the biodynamic agriculture movement in the U.S.[1]
Spock died on January 23, 2008, Sullivan, Maine where she lived.[2]
Environmental activism[edit]
In the late 1950s, Marjorie Spock was a biodynamic gardener on Long Island, New York. Spock complained when the government began indiscriminate aerial spraying of DDT over wide areas of the countryside against the perceived gypsy moth epidemic. When the spraying was not stopped, Spock brought a case with 11 other people against the United States government for the continued DDT spraying.[1] For Spock, the concern was for people’s health and the constitutional right for a property owner to manage her land free of government infringement.[3][4]
The Federal judge dismissed 72 uncontested admissions for the plaintiffs and denied their petition. When the case reached the U.S. Supreme Court in 1960, Spock wrote daily reports to interested and influential friends of the case's progress. Rachel Carson heard of Spock's case and soon got the daily reports. Carson used the testimony from the experts that Spock had found in her own research.[1] Spock's case, along with a massive bird kill on Cape Cod, provided the impetus for Carson's book, Silent Spring.[1]
The plaintiffs lost the case but won the right to enjoin the government, prior to a potentially destructive environmental activity, to provide a full scientific review of the proposed action.[3][4] With this right to environmental review, Spock helped give rise to the environmental movement.[1]

Katya Viktorovna Kovalevskaya | Black Ops Storyline
Tumblr media
Read the previous biography!
Finally, I have finished with the biography of Katya during Black Ops! I didn't mention the other characters much because I've been focusing on her point of view all this time, and thought it'll be a change of topic if I do so.
Warning! It follows the story of Black Ops, and lot of character deaths, violence and angsty scenes are present, be cautious.
The Beginning of an End
"Maybe, it wasn't a fully achieved victory. When the Major General tricked us."
- Katya, about the betrayal
Katya's journey after World at War lead to a terrible downhill when her 3rd Shock Army was sent to the Arctic Circle to abolish the last remains of the fascist Reich. Though, in 1945 during the Reichstag, Russians achieved victory from the Germans but by certain intel they found out a part of it was hiding within the cold borders. The crew was sent there under the orders of the Red Army's Major General, Nikita Dragovich, whom Katya heavily despised of.
Katya knew that Dragovich created fake promises to her and her comrades but never kept, and he can do anything to betray them back. She was more aware of every surrounding and made sure no one was left harm after that. And before the dispatch, she did felt a bit strange about it all, but hoped that everything will be okay and nothing will be out of the plan.
She and her crew arrives at the Arctic Circle, preparing to leave the moment, Lev Kravchenko, Dragovich's second-hand command attempts to mock Katya for her patriotism. Being gentle about it, she doesn't reply back but Reznov did it for her. Dragovich inspects the two and assures they will follow what he'll say, because the goal was to find Friedrich Steiner, a German scientist.
Katya doesn't care even if Dragovich had a higher rank, his standards were low and only had a way to satisfy his own interests and agendas. She never showed signs of respect but had to because of the rank itself. Thanks to her self-control.
Preparing to leave for the mission, where they arrive and fend off with every enemy surrounded in the snowy compound, she struggles her way on the quest with her comrades to find Steiner. Meanwhile, she also observes that some Germans were trying to surrender, so she advised Reznov to spare them. Depending on the player's choice, either they will be free or killed.
Moving on further, they locate Steiner who insults and tells them to take him to Dragovich. Katya knows Steiner was a Nazi and deserved to be punished for his crimes, but the Major General's orders was what kept her powerless.
They arrive outside a Nazi ship frozen in the ice, where Kravchenko executes the POWs. She then hears Steiner talking to Dragovich about how the Germans were sworn to protect the Reich, which included destroying the ship, but Dragovich says to Steiner that there would be no problems. Kravchenko then advised the Lieutenant Colonel to go through the other part of the ship for showing some few experiments. Half-heartedly believing his plea, she follows him meanwhile they told her comrades to follow Steiner and Dragovich. Arriving at an unknown observation area at the upper level, where below gas chambers were located, Kravchenko introduces her about a nerve gas, which is set to be attacked to the West through a rocket but first it had to be tested with some subjects.
Much to Katya's horror, when the soldiers walk near the gas chambers, she realises that Dragovich sent her comrades here as the test subjects to see the effects of the nerve gas first hand. Pushing through Kravchenko's grip, she runs to warn them but in between a lot of obstacles tried to stop her. Not caring about anything, she shot them all and reached the lower level. Till the time she could have saved them..
It was too late.
She saw all of them dying. Slowly and slowly as their bodies degrade because of the gas. There, she could see Dimitri and Reznov trying to get out of here by banging on the sheer glass, but before Katya can stop the gas from killing them, Dragovich knocked her out.
Katya woke up from the signs of sirens blaring inside the wrecked ship, everyone escaping because it was being attacked by sudden appearance of the Western forces who were also trying to retrieve the Nova 6 gas. But, she first had to look over her dead comrades, including Dimitri. Her fear came out to be true, as she witnessed this all again, regretting the mistake of losing her loved soldiers again.
First the explosion, now the gas? What did she do that she deserved all this?
Knowing this is war, no one survives even if we meant to. Looks like she wasn't finished with it yet. But, she saw some of her soldiers along with Reznov who survived before they were about to be gassed, warned her to leave immediately. Though she didn't wanted to leave Dimitri, but by purpose she had to. Before leaving they have to destroy the gas containers including the Nova 6 so that it won't be passed on to another. After destroying the container, they finally escaped and leave the ship, seeing it cripple apart, killing whoever was in it. She always wondered if ever she would have got on time to save them all.
She lost her friends. She lost her family. She lost a part of herself once again.
Quest For Survival
"I had a mission. All by myself, to hunt down those Mudaks."
- Katya, about the Nova 6 crew
Katya survived, but at what cost? To lose whoever she knew? Even if some had survived with her, but she could only vision of Dimitri whom she fought together with. He was a war hero. But got a death as an animal by those three bastards who turned over and betrayed not just the army, but entire Mother Russia.
But, who knew after fate, they were parted ways because of Dragovich. Reznov and Katya were sent to different gulags — Reznov to Vorkuta and Katya to Vyartsilya. Both struggled and attempted their way out of the imprisoned jail for two years, and successfully escaped.
Time passed, and Katya was back at the base, who was rescued by some Soviet soldiers who retrieved her at the labour camp. Being heavily injured physically, and betrayed, guilt-tripped, lost and pained mentally. The vision of her comrades being gassed in the ship still haunted her till date. She even thought of resigning because of such mistake, but the Red Army needed a trustful and strong soldier like her, so they pleaded her to stay. In the sense, she half-heartedly accepted.
Katya requested the officials that she's now on her own quest to hunt down Dragovich and Kravchenko, without any assistance. Fuelled with anger and vengeance, she was unstoppable. From the humid weather to the cold winters, she went through every possible area where they both could be hiding, one time she almost caught them but missed. But during her quest, she was found by some people.. who belonged to the CIA.
The CIA
"The only thing I remember is joining here because they wanted me to. Otherwise, it wasn't a need for me."
- Katya, her joining of CIA
The organisation obtained information from the given intel that the Red Army's Lieutenant Colonel, Katya Kovalevskaya survived the nerve gas experiment during the Project Nova mission, who was also on the quest to locate Dragovich. Locating her somewhere in middle of Soviet Russia, they offered to work together so that they can prevent the rocket being launched, along with helping in her solo quest. It gets successfully destroyed, and then take Katya into their custody later on.
The reason why, Katya was useful as her connections with Dragovich could help to obtain some intel and then locate the Russian criminal, and to protect the American President, John F. Kennedy from getting attacked. Though, she joined the CIA not because to help them along, but using additional assistance to find the gang of Nova 6.
Cause she had an own story, not to join it with someone else. But, one had done it for her.
And the name was Alex Mason.
Alex Mason
"He was the only man I could trust.. because he knew my dear Reznov. He cannot die, can he? He knows how to cheat death like Dimitri used to.."
- Katya, about Mason
Katya's behaviour changed the moment she met Mason. They say that he had every possible evidence for Dragovich about his new plan for bombing the West with Nova 6, through commands from a number station in a ship whose it's name was blurred in Mason's mind. Much more to her surprise, Mason too revealed that he knew a man named Viktor Reznov, whom he lived with in Vorkuta Gulag for two years.
Katya couldn't believe it. She found somebody who could be the source to find her missing comrade, Reznov. But, he disappeared after escaping, losing all hope for her. It wasn't sure if Reznov really survived or sacrificed, but she didn't believe it all until the truth was revealed.
So, since Mason was known to Reznov, she cherished him as a son, like she also did the same to her dear comrades — who were no longer living in her eyes. He too also accepts to stay with Katya, knowing her pain of losing someone close.
But, she also saw that from one of the CIA officials, Mason had a connection to Dragovich, so he had to undergo interrogations under Jason Hudson, because of his rambling about Reznov everytime that he lost focus on the real target. Katya didn't felt it right about Mason being mentally tortured so they can find a way to Dragovich, and hated it.
Whenever Mason talked about Reznov, it broke her heart. She too wanted to know if he was alive, but after many, many attempts, it was proved by Hudson that Reznov was dead for about five years.
Five years. For this whole time, Reznov was dead? Her regrets rise up again, but others calmed her down. She felt life was so unfair, that sometimes her wish was to suicide.
But, she was a soldier. It shouldn't have feelings. Holding herself strong, trying to cope up with another loss of life. Though she lost everything, but now her last hope was none other than: Mason.
Little to her knowledge, Steiner was killed by Reznov, but others said that he did it himself. Was it a sign of control? Was Reznov controlling Mason? How?
She then got to know about the skill of programming minds. Dragovich programmed Mason for killing Kennedy, but Reznov sabotaged him by changing the objective, that even caused him to see numerous hallucinations of Reznov too even if he wasn't present. Katya never believed that he would ever do this, and understood he had the thirst for revenge ovee the men who betrayed them, he was almost successful, because Dragovich was now left to be killed.
Rusalka
"Dragovich.. must die."
- Katya, about killing the Major General.
After numerous interrogations done by Hudson, Mason retrieves his memories and remembers that a ship named Rusalka was where the broadcast numbers existed. Katya did join them along the journey, and gave Mason hope for everything. Going through the underwater submarine that protects the ship, they encounter Dragovich in the lower levels. Both had an extreme confrontation, as the Russian thought Katya was dead, but to his own assumption, she proved it wrong, and now she will kill him with no remorse. And Dragovich wanted Mason to be a useful source, but all he got was pain and suffering because of him and now he'll deserve what he gets.
They get into a little fight, and Katya provides a little distraction, Mason strangles and drowns Dragovich, killing him ultimately. They escape with Hudson and regroup with Weaver and the other army soldiers, finally declaring victory.
Moving On
Finally, all of the monsters she wanted to eliminate were now away, and prepared to leave for the Russian base. But, Mason didn't wanted Katya to go, because he finds her to be a strong-willed woman who knows what to do, and without her, he wouldn't have come far. Katya told Mason that she'll come back soon, if ever help is needed, and before leaving, she tells to "take care of Reznov".
Mason understood what she meant, and smiled about it, waving her goodbye.
Katya knew her life might had taken away what she had, but never gave up. She takes it as a new step of life, for herself.
And always remembering her dear comrades, whom she meant as a family.
FIN.
