DIN 2344 Steel (H13) is a hot-work tool steel, preferred for its high strength and excellent thermal shock resistance. It is often used in the production of tools, dies and components that are subject to high levels of stress and heat. It is an ideal choice for hot-work applications such as injection molds, die casting molds, die forging and extrusion dies. Steel DIN 1.2344 can also be used for cold-work applications such as broaching, thread rolling and knurling. It is a versatile steel, highly resistant to thermal fatigue and wear, and offers good toughness and resistance to softening at elevated temperatures.

DIN 2344 Steels are low Carbon Steels with Carbon content of between 0.37% and 0.42% and Chromium content between 4.8 to 5.5%, Molybdenum content between 1.2 to 1.5%. They may contain Silicon upto 0.3% and just a trace of Sulphur. But the Vanadium content is quite high at around 1% which gives it great resistance to abrasion regardless of temperature (from low end to high end).

Hot or cold forming is the process of manufacturing a buttweld fitting by bending and moulding it into the desired shape. Heat treatment is also used to remove any residual stresses and to achieve specific mechanical properties, as well as to remove residual stresses.

Buttweld fittings have to have the ends of their end caps bevelled, and the exact shape of the bevel depends largely on the wall thickness of the pipe to which the fitting is being attached. There is a wide range of exotic materials that can be used for buttweld fittings, such as super duplex material, nickel alloy material, and even 6% molybdenum material. There is a good chance that the material of the fitting will be the same as the pipe system that it will be attached to, in the majority of cases.
