Cole Sprouse - Counting Stars
This is a Cole Sprouse x Reader fanfic. The lyrics I used are from the song “Counting Stars” by One Republic. I do not own the lyrics, nor the characters in this story. Enjoy! - Zoe
Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard Said no more counting dollars We'll be counting stars Yeah, we'll be counting stars
Cole lay awake in his bed. He was shifting and turning, trying to find any possible position where he could be comfortable and fall asleep. But no. There was one thing stopping him from falling asleep. He didn’t have her. He didn’t have Y/n in his arms, to whisper sweet sayings in his ear, to lul him to sleep.
Y/n was in her apartment, a few blocks down from Coles. She also couldn’t sleep. Not because she wasn’t tired. She was sad. In a bad mood, and couldn’t find out why. She had spent a whole evening shopping, going out with friends, etc. She had spent so much money and was hoping to get some kind of relief. To have that weight lifted off her shoulders. But no. Spending money never made her happy. Money doesn’t buy happiness after all.
But maybe she could sleep better. Maybe she could sleep better with him. Maybe, just maybe, she could have a normal night's rest if only Cole was holding her in his arms.
Finally, Cole sprang into action. He put off his shoes and a shirt on, and trudged through the streets to Y/n’s apartment complex.
I see this life, like a swinging vine Swing my heart across the line And in my face is flashing signs Seek it out and ye' shall find Old, but I'm not that old Young, but I'm not that bold And I don't think the world is sold On just doing what we're told
Cole didn’t know how Y/n ould feel if he showed up unannounced but continued on his way. Several minutes later, he was at Y/n’s door. He fiddled with his fingers, waiting outside the apartment. What if she was asleep?
Cole took a deep breath and rang the doorbell. A few seconds passed. Cole waited. He heard footsteps coming on the other side of the door. The door unlocked and opened, revealing a rather depressed looking Y/n.
“Cole? What are you doing here?” Y/n asked.
I-I-I-I feel something so right Doing the wrong thing I-I-I-I feel something so wrong Doing the right thing I couldn't lie, couldn't lie, couldn't lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive
Cole walked inside the apartment and hugged Y/n. It was soft and precious, and it took Y/n a few seconds to hug back. They both stood there for a minute or so, enjoying each others warmth
“I need you.” Cole whispered into Y/n’s ear. She nodded and closed the door, then lead Cole to her bedroom. They both settled into the sheets, Cole wrapping his arms around Y/n. Y/n’s lip curved into a smile as Cole buried his face in the crook of her neck.
Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep Dreaming about the things that we could be But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard Said no more counting dollars We'll be counting stars Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep Dreaming about the things that we could be But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard Said no more counting dollars We'll be, we'll be counting stars
That night, both of the lovebirds slept better than they have in a long, long time.
