0.0 what I know before starting

I havent read any sanderson stories, but I wanted to ever since I watched his lectures on storybuilding. I was planning to, but before i had finished the last video he launched the secret project, and I thought it would be fun to start w those.

So here I am

Other things I know hes been involved w is the Wheel of Time series (believe he finished it bc the og author died). He does have cosmere/mistborn series but im not sure if they are the same or what is the relation btween them. I remember hype for the mistborn series so i sort of remember the cover and that maybe they are ya (?)

I do know that the "fantasy euro symbol" is from his series. The euro symbol is very aesthetically pleasing to draw (technical drawing), so I can see why somebody would want to rip it off lol

If you told me that it is the euro symbol in an alternate reality where Türkiye (🇹🇷 flag for ref) was the most influential country of the European Union (but it wouldnt be just europe... name in progress ig) id believe u

I am liking so far the way sanderson is writing. It feels as if the narrator is holding the information hostage for coolness purposes.

For example, Him: “The spores werent a problem unless u got them wet” me: does sweat count as wet? Him: “yeah m'dudes, it was disgusting”

I am quite into medieval lit and by medieval lit i mean XIIth century spanish lit

As in i am considering specializing on it for my spanish lit degree

Also quite deep into the norse myth hyperfixation (SHOUTOUT TO MY JEWISH FOLLOWERS I LOVE YOU <3)

So all this to say i am quite scared of the "americanization" of the medieval (yes yes this is a paralel universe which is sort of like ours but not quite, they are in paralel!Northumbria if i remember correctly so also not in spain etc etc)

Ok so.

The fact that the main character is a cop AND the way that these peoples religion is being disrespected is making me crawl. Like Tress had some flicks of "written by a devout fundamentalist writer™" that i caught but i did not mind them much? but this is giving me th ick

Thoughts so far... This guy has read a substantial ammount of discworld. It just is. The rat, the Igor... Yeah

I like the "too big of a man" character. Cool deaf character. I also used to know this guy that was just. BIG. He was a classmate of my sibling and he was just... BIG. For reference, when they were about 3yo he looked like a 7yo. It was kind of creepy. I also think the guys tablet would help him discover introuders. Probably knows of the rat. I like how one of the "unknown" features is just. The justify tool on word.

I also like that in this world spit has pvp value.

I dont like that Dough is a staple. Makes me thknk of homer simpson. Very "i have 10-14yo kids" tho

The dedication felt so much more intimate knowing that these books are *legit for his wife* and for us was just an afterthought.

I like that he aknowledged everybody, that is always nice. It was odd to see a dedication to the deaf person they are getting feedback from and the beta readers, but odd in a good way

The Frugal Wizard's Guide to Medieval England (pages 50-298)

I ended up reading it the rest in one afternoon bc I didnt have anything else to do lol.

It is true that it wasn't as bad as i was fearing, at least w the odd mythology way. i did like how he played out his "white room" story, I tend to enjoy those sorts of things, and some twists, like the one character that can survive gun but not arrow lol, or that it ended up being a quite nicely done mix of fantasy and scifi (bc at the end of the day scifi is just a subgenre of fantasy but nobody mixes them for no reason?).

I did not like the compulsory romantic non-plot. They were coworkers and continued to be coworkers, they do not need to be together at the end of the day. I did like the reveal that Jen and Ryan were kind of a bitch (both of them), tho. That was dramatic and juicy. Same with the probability thing.

The mafia boss' plan was kind of nice ngl. Remind me again why the Seattle police can operate in another dimension's england? ah, bc they are the police, of course smh. i'd have liked to see the guy confronting ryan about it, or at least some out-of-story reason why he can do it.

I couldnt properly appreciate the illustrations bc my ebook was only reading 298 pages, so it skipped pretty much any illustration avilable. They were all nice and cute. Illustrating this book would be a very cool idea
