Crafting update!

So my Generic Victorian Bloomers are now done! I adapted a pattern from Izabela Pitcher's book, but I'm thinking of not adding ribbon and lace to it. There's something pleasingly nautical about what I've come up with, like an Age of Sail cabin boy. I might run with that and make some accessories?

My first waistband was 27cm - and came out a 1cm too narrow. I replaced it with a second, which was 28.5cm and that came out overlapping and a smidgen too big. It's three layers of inner calico for strength, plus outer layers of white mystery!shirting, and I went all out on using my collarmaking skills to make the waistband curve and conform to the shape of the body. Smug? Oh, not half! I really struggle with sewing, i struggle with clothes making - as much as I am passionate about it - so it feels good for old skills to come together, to know i can just do a thing like this without needing to check in with a book because it's intuitive between my hands.

I'm pleased with the pattern, which now fits nicely and will be super useful as a base for future things. The three hook-and-eyes are decorative. Next step: a generic chemise top. These are mostly for photographing corsets and crinolines with, as well as something for her to dress in around the house. Ultimately, outer dresses will probably come with their own corseting as an integral part of the pattern, and flashes of chemise sewn to the garment to prevent things getting too thick
