Konark Nritya mandap Natya mandap is a magnificent stone carved structure located in front of main structure of Konark temple in Odisha. It was built in the 13th century and is an example of the great architectural achievements of the time. The structure consists of 16 pillars and has a unique design that includes curvaceous bejeweled dancers in stone, musical instruments, Apsaras and musicians. It is believed to be one of the earliest examples of Indian temple architecture. Though the roof is not exiting but it might have been grandeur. The Natya mandap also has musical instruments carved into its walls, which are believed to have been used by musicians during festivals and other important occasions. Why there was a Natya Mandap (dancing hall)? Apart from Bhakti (devtion) and War there are abundance of features  to enjoy the life. Konark Natya Mandap is also known for its dancers  music and dance performances. This traditional art form has been passed down through generations and continues to be practiced today. It includes folk dances such as Jatra, Gotipua, Chhau, Bhanda Pata Nritya and many more forms of classical dances such as Kathakali, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi etc. These performances are accompanied by melodious music played on traditional instruments like the mardala drum, gini flute and others which fills the evening air till night. The pattachitra, a traditional form of painting, might have been the sketches of these figures. This tussar dupatta adorns various parts of the mandap with graceful dancers performing the art for devotion and joy.
