Sometimes, it's supremely... for the lack of a better word... relaxing, to take a pause, look at the woods and water, hear the chirp of birds, and just be! Sounds corny, but works for me. #nature #naturelover #lakewivenhoe #cormorantbay #lakeviews #beinnature #मैंठहरायायावर Pic credits: @johnpcauchi (at Cormorant Bay, Lake Wivenhoe) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDV8khMso25/?igshid=whz996kq4uev

CELEBRATE Australia Day a few days early by heading to Wivenhoe Dam on Saturday, 23 January for the biggest event to be held in Somerset in 2016. The Somerset Australia Day Festival, proudly organised by Somerset Regional Council, will include live music, cooking demonstrations, market stalls, gourmet food trucks, kid’s entertainment and a fireworks display. Catch Australian duo, Busby Marou, as they perform some of their well known hits, on stage overlooking Lake Wivenhoe from 7.30pm. To add to the excitement Australian celebrity chef, Matt Golinski, will showcase delicious and fresh Somerset produce in an unmissable 90-minute cooking demonstration. Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the festival was one not to be missed. “There is going to be so much on offer for everyone to enjoy that you won’t want to be anywhere else but in Somerset, enjoying the festival,” Cr Lehmann said. “Council is putting on this great event for everyone to come and celebrate what Australia Day means to them and enjoy the great outdoors, the Somerset way, by the lake, with great food, great entertainment and great company.” The festival will get underway from 4pm at the Cormorant Bay Recreational Reserve at Wivenhoe Dam on Saturday, 23 January and finish with fireworks at 8.30pm. “I would encourage everyone to lock Saturday, 23 January in their diaries and come to Somerset’s beautiful Wivenhoe Dam to enjoy all the festivities on offer. It’s going to be a great afternoon.” On Tuesday, 26 January Council will host its popular Australia Day Awards ceremony at the Somerset Civic Centre in Esk at 10am. A free big breakfast will also be held for the first 200 residents who secure their spot by phoning Council on 5424 4000. Residents can also enjoy free entry to each of the pools in Somerset on Australia Day as well as participate in games, competitions and enjoy barbecues at Lowood, Kilcoy, Toogoolawah and Esk pools from 10am. I'm just glad that despite the incessant rain, we didn't chicken out, went out, and we're handsomely rewarded for that. I mean just look at the view! Had an awesome hike and a great catching up with friends, even a long lost one.
