CHAPTER I - school grounds

If there was something that could describe how you feel right now, it's how you would when you're reading a book where your favorite character is in a life and death situation. Albeit this wasn't too serious— scratch that, this IS serious. What was going on in your parents' minds when they chose to transfer their child to another school? In the middle of the school year?

Your clammy hands grip the strap of your messenger bag as you wait patiently for your tour guide. [eye color] eyes wander around the office to distract yourself from the anxiety bubbling in your stomach. Oh dear, how was the guide going to react? Surely they would've been upset about having to come back to their job on a weekend. You cringe as you imagine the image of a grumpy older man grumbling curses under his breath whenever you would ask a stupid question.

"Ah, Mr. Huening, glad you could make it." The voice of the principal snaps you out of your train of thought, following her gaze at the door. There stood a tall boy with a bright smile on his face. "Good afternoon, Mrs. Han!"

Mrs. Han imitated his smile before motioning towards you, "This is l/n y/n, our new student. They're just a year younger than you, I believe."

You feel your body tense up at the sudden attention. You try your best to crack a smile and give a small wave at the boy's direction. He waves back, walking closer before putting his hand out, "Hi! I'm Huening Kai, it's nice to meet you."

You shake his hand, nodding, "Nice to meet you too, Huening Kai."

"Just Kai is fine." He smiles before taking a seat next to you.

Gosh he's so tall, you think, absolutely mortified despite his inviting aura. Maybe it's because he seems so innocent is what makes him feel like a threat. The principal smiles at both students, "Now that you're both present, I trust that you two know why you're here?"

You nod your head, figuring that your tour guide won't be a grumpy old teacher while Hueni— Kai answered yes. "Then, off you go! Mr. Huening, take care of y/n, okay?"

"You can count on me Mrs. Hwang!" The blond stands up, looking back at the younger's awkward stature. "C'mon, let's go."

HYBE High was bigger than you thought it was, but Kai made the walk throughout bearable. You could only laugh at how scared you were of him now that he was cracking jokes here and there. Kai couldn't even hurt a fly, he was just... scarily tall, you think to yourself. By the time you finish, it was a quarter to three and both students were smiling.

"And that concludes the tour! Hope you had a fun time." Kai gently nudges your shoulder, letting out a giggle. You laugh along with him and nod your head, "Thank you for being my guide, Kai."

"It was my pleasure!" He bows, hair flopping down with his body. You shake your head at his silliness before you stop walking at the entrance. "I'll see you on Monday then,"

He pulls out his phone from his pocket, "Let's exchange numbers, just in case you need help with anything in the future."

"Oh, sure!" You do the same and dictate your number as he typed it down. After putting away your phones, you finally wave goodbye as you near the gates.

"You sure you don't need a ride home?" Kai asks you with pure concern.

"Yup! Don't worry, I'm just waiting for my mom to pick me up." He nods and waves before leaving. You sit down by a nearby waiting shed, sighing and letting the day sink in. You're transferring to another high school... in the middle of the year. You groan and hide your face in the palms of your hands. At least you know two people— well, one you just met and the other with a face you've yet to see. You pull out your phone again and check your twitter, snickering at yourself when a funny tweet passed by your timeline. Engrossed in your scrolling, you didn't even notice that someone sat next to you until you heard a voice saying;

"Hey, I don't think I've seen you around here before." You jump and let out yelp. The boy before you starts apologizing, hands together and squeezing his eyes shut.

"I didn't mean to scare you, I'm so sorry!" You clutch your chest, making an attempt to calm yourself down before sighing.

"It's okay, I just didn't see you." You clear your throat as you lay your phone face down on your lap. "But yes! My name's y/n I'm new here, I just transferred."

The raven-haired boy raises a brow at you, "In the middle of the school year?"

Your lip twitches at the phrase. Geez, how many times will that be rubbed into your face...

You nod your head, giving him a small smile. He nods his head, returning your half-hearted smile with a toothy grin. "Well, I'm Jongseong! You can just call me Jay though."

"What year are you in?" You chuckle at his questions, "You sure are a talker, aren't you?"

"Can't help it, it's too awkward when it's silent." He laughs.

"I guess that's a good thing," you say, "I'm in my junior year."

"Oh, I'm older then," He crosses his arms in thought, "I'm in my senior year. If you need any help, don't be shy and rely on me. I'm pretty reliable."

You snort, "You saying you're reliable makes you seem suspicious."

Jay bursts out laughing, "Funny, that isn't the first time I heard that."

"Jay hyung!"

Both of you look over to where the voice came from to see another tall boy around your age.

"Sunoo, slow down!" And yet ANOTHER tall boy runs to his side, looking absolutely exhausted.

"Heeseung hyung, Sunoo, it's been so long! How are you?" Jay smiles as he stands up, and only then did you notice how he towers over you.

"It was nice meeting you, y/n!" You reply with a meek 'you too' as you wave goodbye. You deadpan at the group of boys and their insanely tall frames. There was definitely no joke when they said HYBE High was full of giants...

"Jay hyung, who was that person you were with?" Sunoo asks, looking back at you who was messing around with your phone.

"Oh, them? A transferee." Jay answers, getting into the front seat of Heeseung's car. The eldest scrunches his nose in confusion, "A transferee? In the middle of the school year?"

Jay hums before leaning on his seat to look at Sunoo, who was still busy looking at you. "They're the same year as you, Sun."

"Really?!" The said boy snaps his head to his hyungs' direction, sparkles in his eyes. "I'm so excited to show them around!"

Both boys laugh at his reaction, "Good for you 'noo."

The Most Beautiful Person in the World

note: hello! im not sure if i'll be able to post sunoo's version of the short suitor smau soon, but i'll try my best! please enjoy reading this for now <3

Looking at yourself in the mirror, you frowned as you nitpicked each and every flaw your eyes would catch. The way your face was round, spots of acne, the discoloration on your skin and so on. Oh how you despised having to look at your reflection and get reminded at how you used to get unwanted comments from other people. A quiet sigh escapes your lips, but not quiet enough to catch the attention of your boyfriend.

Sunoo looks up from his phone, attention immediately going to your form. He could already tell what was going on and his chest swells up. It hurts him that you couldn't see how he sees you, but he couldn't be able to describe what you would be feeling. He gets up from his position and walks behind you.

Sunoo flashes you a warm smile, placing his hands on your shoulders. You felt yourself melt into his touch as he props his chin on your head. He pouts as he looks at you through the mirror. You couldn't help but smile at his expression, "What's wrong, Sun?"

"Ahh... Nothing," He says, eyes filled with adoration just for you, "just looking at the most beautiful person in the world."

"Do you mean yourself?" You giggle as Sunoo gasps. He clicks his tongue, shaking his head, "How dare you not acknowledge the beauty sitting right in front of me right now!"

Your smile falters a bit, "Sun, I'm not..."

He sits beside you, wrapping his hands around yours and bringing them to his lips, "I know you don't feel like it right now."

"but I hope you know that you always look pretty to me everyday." You could feel his lips curl into a small smile, his eyelashes tickling your skin as he looks up at you. "You're the most beautiful person in the world for me, Ynnie. And I'm always so happy that you get to be my person."

You don't understand how Sunoo always sees the best in you even in your worsts, and God it feels like he's too good to be true. You gently cup his face in your hands, feeling your heart race when he leans into your touch. "I don't deserve you, Sun..."

Even in times you find it hard to be yourself, being with him makes you dislike yourself a little bit less. And who knows, maybe one day you'll get to see yourself the way he sees you, just like he says.
