Southern India

The majority of my time in India was spent with two amazing coworkers and friends, Ram and Ivanna. Both of these amazing people I met through Intel’s LGBTQ+ group, and we quickly became close friends (Ivanna started Intel’s Costa Rica chapter, and Ram started Intel’s India chapter). Ivanna came to India on the same day I did, and Ram very generously took on the role of traveling companion / translator / tour guide / travel agent as the three of us roamed through India together.

 Our first stop with two of Ram’s friends Rahul and Mohi for a road trip to Yercaud, a small city way up a mountain side in southern India.  The whole area is known for their coffee and spices, and even the place we stayed (a place with a bunch of cottages and tent sites that were perched near a cliff face with stunning views) was an active coffee plantation as well, so we got to see the plants being trimmed back while we were there to assure a good harvest.  It was very nice to go someplace (slightly) cooler, and hang out as a group.  It seemed to me like there were more staff working at the location than there were staying, so I felt like royalty as we always had a staff member nearby to suggest activities to do or get us anything we needed.  After experiencing the dense population of Benagalore, it was neat seeing the rural countryside of the second most populated country in the world.  After more bonding time on the road trip back, it was time to get a few hours of sleep before the flight to Delhi in northern India!
