The 37-year-old striker is preparing for his second season in Major League Soccer with the LA Galaxy — a suitably and literally Hollywood location for a footballer who perhaps personifies glitz and glamor like no other — and the Swede told CNN Sport about the impact of the distinctive yellow vehicle on him while growing up.

“After one season in MLS, I know it more now, I know things better … And I’m excited, I look forward just to start playing again … because I like the MLS after playing one year there, and the first season was like what is waiting, what will happen, how is it, which level it is, and all these things.

“But now I have everything in my head, so now I just go out on the field and I dominate.”

“I rank it very high, because it was a special moment,” he begins, referring to his wonder strike.

“After being out [for] one and a half years with a very bad injury, and people were wondering ‘can he come back, can he play football?’ I had a lot of questions, and I wanted a lot of answers, especially after the hard work I’d put down to really come back to that moment where I feel alive.

“That’s why they’re all on the back, because I don’t see them. In front, I would not like it. And I don’t have any more place behind, so let’s see, you never know. When the adrenaline kicks in, and you want to get something done, then it’s the time I do it.”

Mais celui qui rêve de porter un jour le maillot du PSG, signe finalement en 2008 à 20 ans à l’Inter Milan, qui le prête dans la foulée au Chievo Verone, puis à l’Ajax où il se blesse gravement au genou. Il va rester éloigné des terrains pendant plus d’un an avant d’être de nouveau prêté, cette fois au club brésilien de Parana. Régulièrement handicapé par son genou, il multiplie les piges dans des clubs de seconde zone au Japon, au États-Unis, en Slovaquie et même à Malte, avant de prendre sa retraite en 2017... à l’âge de 29 ans.

3- Bojan Krkic Le jeune prodige de La Masia a inscrit plus de 400 buts sous les couleurs catalanes. Lancé dans le grand bain par Frank Rijkaard, il plante son premier but en pro à seulement 17 ans et devient par la même occasion le plus jeune buteur de l’histoire du club devant Messi. Son talent ne fait à l’époque aucun doute et beaucoup voient en lui le futur de Barcelone. Sauf que 11 ans plus tard, Bojan Krkic 28 ans, est au fond du trou, c’est-à-dire en Championship avec Stoke City. La faute à des relations parfois tendues avec ses coachs (il aurait réussi à se mettre à dos Luis Enrique et Pep Guardiola) et un mental parfois bancal.

4- Keirisson Le prodige brésilien signe en 2009 au Barça pour 14 millions d’euros avec à son pedigree, un titre de meilleur buteur du championnat brésilien (20 buts). Malgré un contrat de 5 ans, Keirisson ne portera jamais le maillot blaugrana, la faute à un niveau de jeu non conforme aux exigences de la maison catalane. Même constat lors de ses nombreux prêts qui suivirent, que ce soit au Benfica (9 matches, 1 but), puis à la Fiorentina (12 matches, 2 buts), ou enfin au Brésil à Santos, à Cruzeiro pour finalement atterrir à Coritiba où il ne plante qu’un seul but en deux saisons. A aujourd’hui 30 ans, Keirisson rejoint le club des pépites issues de Football Manager qui n’auront jamais réussi à s’imposer au très haut niveau.

5- Royston Drenthe Élu "Golden player" lors de l'Euro U21 en 2007, le milieu de terrain néerlandais alors âgé de 20 ans débarque au Real Madrid pour 13,5 millions d’euros, bien décidé à faire parler de lui. Mais ni Bernd Schuster, ni Juande Ramos, ni Manuel Pellegrini et encore moins José Mourinho, ne lui feront vraiment confiance. Commence alors sa dégringolade sportive. Le joueur évolue successivement à Alicante, Everton, Aliana Vladikavkaz (Slovénie), Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Kayceri Erciyesspor (Turquie) et Baniyas SC (Emirats). En 2016, Royston Drenthe décide de prendre sa retraite pour devenir rappeur sous le pseudonyme de Roya2Faces, avant de rechausser finalement les crampons en septembre 2018 pour le club du Sparta de Rotterdam en D2 hollandaise.

6- Yoann Gourcuff Lorsque Yoann Gourcuff signe au Milan AC en 2006, il n’a que 20 ans et pourtant déjà 3 saisons de Ligue 1 avec Rennes dans les jambes. Peu utilisé en Italie, il retourne en prêt du côté des Girondins de Bordeaux où il s’impose comme le maître à jouer de l’équipe dirigée par Laurent Blanc. Celle là même qui remporte le doublé Coupe de la Ligue – Championnat lors de la saison 2008-2009. Transféré définitivement au mercato, il atteint avec Bordeaux les quarts de finale de la Ligue des Champions, et décroche le statu de « futur Zidane ». Une étiquette peu enviable assortie d’une pression supplémentaire, que le joueur ne parviendra jamais à gérer. Au point que Tiburce Darou, préparateur physique qui s’était occupé de lui après une de ses blessures, dit un jour de lui : "Je m'occupe du physique. Pour soigner Yoann, il faudrait faire de la psychiatrie et je ne suis pas psychiatre". Jean-Michel Aulas l’a compris trop tard à ses dépens.

7- Hatem Ben Arfa Hatem Ben Arfa divise depuis qu’il est apparu dans le documentaire à la Clairefontaine. D’un côté, ceux qui ne jurent que par la promesse d’un talent brut et l’incompétence de ses entraîneurs à le mettre dans les bonnes conditions. De l’autre, ceux qui aimeraient qu’il devienne enfin autre chose qu’un simple intermittent du spectacle. Et à bientôt 32 ans, l’ancien meilleur espoir de Ligue 1 2008 risque d’avoir du mal à rattraper le gâchis d’une carrière passée à ruminer ses rendez-vous manqués.

8- Giovani Dos Santos Meilleur buteur de la Danone Nations Cup en 2001, Gio Dos Santos quitte à 12 ans le club mexicain de Monterrey pour rejoindre le FC Barcelone. En septembre 2007, Frank Rijkaard lui offre sa première titularisation en pro, avant de délivrer une semaine plus tard sa première passe décisive en Ligue des Champions face à… l’Olympique lyonnais. Il termine sa première saison avec 4 buts et 7 passes dé en 34 rencontres. Le club Catalan croit alors tenir le futur Ronaldinho, avant de rapidement déchanter. Cantonné sur le banc l’année suivante, il est finalement cédé à Tottenham pour 5 millions d’euros à l’été 2008, qui le prête au mercato suivant à Ipswich en D2 anglaise. Malgré un semblant de rebond à Villareal de 2013 à 2015, Giovani Dos Santos quitte l’Europe sans jamais avoir vraiment réussi à s’imposer. Il évolue depuis 2015 au LA Galaxy, où il a inscrit 27 buts en 87 rencontres, soit à peu près autant que son coéquipier Romain Alessandrini … en seulement 50 matchs.

9- Martin Odegaard A seulement 15 ans, Martin Ødegaard était déjà suivi par les plus grands clubs après ses débuts remarqués avec Stromsgodset dans le championnat norvégien. C’est finalement au Real Madrid que le milieu offensif décidait de confier sa progression. Un apprentissage compliqué qu’il mène pendant 2 saisons avec la Castilla et depuis l’été 2017, en prêt dans le club hollandais d’Heerenveen et depuis cet été, au Vitesse Arnhem. A 20 ans, le joueur est toujours sous contrat avec le Real et rêve d’un retour victorieux à la casa blanca… un peu comme Mariano Diaz !

10- Fabio Paim Son compatriote Cristiano Ronaldo, aurait dit de lui un jour : « Si vous trouvez que je joue bien au foot, attendez de voir Fabio Paim". Comme quoi, on peut être une brute au foot et être incapable de distinguer une future star du foot à un tricoteur de Jorkyball. A la décharge de CR7, il n’est pas le seul à s’être fait avoir. A commencer par le Sporting Portugal qui offrit un salaire de 50 000 euros par mois à un joueur qui ne jouera pas un seul match avec l’équipe première. L’arnaque menée d’une main de maître par Jorge Mendes, va durer 3 saisons avec un prêt notamment du côté de Chelsea. Âgé aujourd’hui de 30 ans, il évolue depuis 2017 en deuxième division portugaise au Lexoes, son 19ème club depuis le début de sa carrière pro en 2010 !

Wenger’s “I Almost Signed Them” Arsenal First XI

As manager Arsene Wenger bids farewell to the club that he won three EPL titles and seven FA Cups with, we look at what would have been Le Professeur’s Ultimate Arsenal starting XI.

Step aside the Invincibles of 2003/04, if Wenger had his way, his ultimate team will be made up of the who’s who of football’s current greats.

The 68-year-old French tactician has no doubt proven that he can uncover the best on the cheap with gems like Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and even Nicolas Anelka.

But in an alternate reality where he had all the financial resources he wished for, Wenger would have had these footballing superstars donning the famed Gunners’ jersey…

Wenger’s “I Almost Signed Them” Arsenal First XI

Though it is hard to imagine Buffon in anything other than a Juventus shirt, there was a time when the Italian goalkeeper expressed a desire to join the London club.

Sadly though, Juventus chose to hold on to their prized safe hands between the sticks. Though Wenger did have Jens Lehmann.

CD: Gerard Pique

Oh, how things would be different if Wenger managed to lure Barcelona’s rocksteady defender Pique instead of Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United…

In the end, the Frenchman did pull off a minor miracle when he persuaded Sol Campbell to join the Gunners from arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

CD: Vincent Kompany

The defensive rock of Manchester City; Vincent Kompany could have been wearing red instead of sky blue if only Wenger ponied up the £5 million demanded by Anderlecht.

Instead, Wenger turned to Kolo Toure who found his place in defence after a stint as an attacking midfielder.

CD: Roberto Carlos

As he neared the end of his contract, Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos was angling for a move to the Emirates.

Wenger, however, could only watch as the former Brazilian national team captain slipped through his fingers to Fenerbahce.

To be fair, he did have Ashley Cole who won two league titles and three FA Cups at the central London club.

RW: Cristiano Ronaldo

In the long history of former United manager Ferguson getting one up over Wenger, none would have hurt the Frenchman more than the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo: “My biggest regret, I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo, and not only did I not get him, he signed for Manchester United, so that of course still hurts today.”

Apparently, the Arsenal manager had a £4 million deal with Sporting Lisbon and even gave CR7 his own Arsenal jersey to boot!

Only for Sporting to host United in a pre-season friendly, and the rest people say is history…

CM: Paul Pogba

The Frenchman was poised to capitalise on his arch nemesis Ferguson’s mistake and swoop for Paul Pogba back in 2012.

But you snooze, you lose as Juventus were the fastest club to get the French midfielder to sign on their dotted line.

On the bright side, the long-time Arsenal manager did rope in Santi Cazorla , who is no slouch on the ball himself.

DM: Xabi Alonso

As Xabi Alonso was being ushered out of Liverpool, the Spanish midfield maestro headed to London in hopes of securing a £15 million transfer.

But Wenger opted for Mikel Arteta instead. Alonso went to Real Madrid instead and won the La Liga and Champions League.

CAM: Lionel Messi

If you ask Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague, the Spanish football expert will tell you that Wenger identified and offered contracts to three 15-year-old players from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy – Pique, Cesc Fabregas and a certain Lionel Messi.

Well looking back, one in three isn’t that bad Wenger: “It was at a period where Fabregas came. We wanted to take Fabregas, Messi and Pique. It worked only for Fabregas.”

LW: Gareth Bale

Having touched base with Southampton over Theo Walcott, Wenger was also tracking another member of their squad – Gareth Bale.

However, with two left-backs on the Arsenal’s books, the Professor thought it was wise to drop his interest in the Welsh full-back/winger: “We didn’t take him as we had Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy and didn’t want another left-back. I must confess it was a huge mistake as he can play in midfield. He struggled at the start at Tottenham, then they moved him to midfield and he has done exceptionally well. The career of a player sometimes depends on playing in the right position.”

FC: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Back when Zlatan was just a boy, or a 19-year-old boy in Malmo, he was probably busy preparing for his £3 million move to Arsenal.

That is until Wenger made the unwise move of asking the LA Galaxy striker to play a trial match. And as we all know, God doesn’t do auditions.

FC: Romelu Lukaku

Long before Romelu Lukaku even knew what Chelsea smelled like, the Belgian was making his footballing bones at Anderlecht in 2011.

But even if the United frontman wasn’t aware of London, the people in the city, namely Wenger did know of him: “Yes, we knew him in Belgium but at the time he opted to go to Chelsea.”

Somehow we imagine that Jose Mourinho might have had a hand in that one.

Những "cây trường sinh" còn sót lại của châu Âu

“Cây trường sinh”, “gừng càng già càng cay”, đó là mỹ từ để  chỉ những cầu thủ đang tiếp tục ngự trị đỉnh cao dù bước sang tuổi “băm” như Zlatan Ibrahimovic và Cristiano Ronaldo. Có cảm giác càng già về tuổi đời, họ càng hoàn thiện hơn, thậm chí thăng hoa rực rỡ.

Ở tuổi 33, Ronaldo vẫn là một trụ cột không thể thiếu trong đội hình ra sân của Real Madrid và đội tuyển Bồ Đào Nha, gặt hái chức vô địch Euro lịch sử, phá giải “lời nguyền Champions League” (bảo vệ thành công chức vô địch) và trên hết, giành Quả bóng vàng thứ 5 trong sự nghiệp.

Trong khi nhiều cầu thủ qua tuổi 30 đã đi đến bên kia sườn dốc sự nghiệp CR7 vẫn duy trì chế độ dinh dưỡng, tập luyện khắc nghiệt để làm chậm quá trình "lão hóa".  Real hiện tại không thiếu những cái tên để kỳ vọng nhưng ở bất kỳ trận đấu lớn hay nhỏ nhưng nếu có CR7 trên sân, anh luôn là tâm điểm của mọi sự chú ý.

Ibrahimovic từng nói rằng tuổi tác đối với anh chẳng qua chỉ là những con số, rằng mình giống như rượu vang, càng để lâu càng quý giá. Thật vậy, chẳng có tiền đạo nào dễ dàng "hủy diệt" một giải đấu hàng đầu châu Âu (Ligue I) khi bước sang tuổi 31, dám chuyển tới CLB giàu thành tích nhất Premier League khắc nghiệt như MU.

Cho đến khi dính chấn thương quái ác vào tháng 4/2017, anh vẫn trở thành đầu tàu kéo MU chinh phục các đỉnh cao dưới thời Jose Mourinho. NHM vẫn mong, Ibrahimovic sẽ nhận cái kết đẹp như Edwin van Der Sar ngày nào.

Ronaldo, Ibra: "Siêu nhân" hay chỉ là ảo tưởng

Cũng khoảng thời gian này cách đây 1 năm, Ibrahimovic là chân sút tốt nhất M.U với 14 bàn tại Premier League (nhiều hơn Romelu Lukaku hiện tại tới 10 bàn). Thế nhưng cuộc sống thay đổi theo những hướng không ai ngờ tới, để rồi bây giờ, sự hiện diện của Ibra lại là gánh nặng cho MU.

Lần gần nhất các CĐV "Quỷ đỏ" chứng kiến tiền đạo người Thụy Điển chơi bóng là dịp Boxing day. Đó là trận Premier League đầu tiên mùa này Ibra đá chính. Không có sự bùng nổ nào như mùa trước. Trái lại, đó cũng là lần đầu tiên kể từ khi khoác áo M.U, anh bị thay ra giữa chừng, chỉ sau 45 phút hiệp 1.

Ibra quá chậm và ảnh hưởng tiêu cực tới lối chơi chung và đánh mất bản năng “sát thủ” vốn có. Tuổi 36 cũng khiến ngôi sao người Thụy Điển nhạy cảm hơn với chấn thương. Anh mất 7 tháng để hồi phục dây chằng đầu gối và nó tái phát chỉ 5 tuần sau khi anh trở lại.

Một trong những phẩm chất có thể biện minh cho sự tồn tại của Ibra, là khả năng lãnh đạo và truyền cảm hứng. Nhưng nó không còn được thể hiện, thậm chí Ibra phá hỏng bầu không khí trong phòng thay đồ. Cách đây ít lâu, theo tiết lộ của tờ Mirror, Lukaku liên tục không ăn mừng bàn thắng nhằm biểu thị sự bất mãn với Ibra. 

Có vẻ như mối lương duyên giữa Ibra với MU nên kết thúc sau mùa giải này, khi mà LA Galaxy sẵn sàng giúp anh hoàn tất "giấc mơ Mỹ" để khép lại một sự nghiệp đầy thăng trầm.

Ở tuổi 33, Ronaldo cũng đang trải qua quãng thời gian tồi tệ nhất  kể từ khi khoác áo Real vào năm 2009 với chỉ 20 bàn/27 trận. 

Theo thống kê, trong 17 trận ở La Liga (1503 phút), Ronaldo thực hiện 114 pha dứt điểm và ghi được vỏn vẹn 8 bàn. Như vậy phải sau 188 phút và mất 14,25 cú dứt điểm, anh mới có 1 bàn. Trước đây, hiệu suất quen thuộc của CR7 thường dao động trên dưới 90 phút/bàn. Phong độ tệ hại của Ronaldo cũng là nguyên nhân chính khiến Real kém Barca đến 19 điểm (đá ít hơn 1 trận).

Trong sự suy giảm hiện nay mà Ronaldo, Ibra trải qua, các giới chuyên môn cho rằng tham vọng của họ lẫn CLB chủ quản đã vượt quá thực tế.  Hai siêu sao chỉ là những con người bằng xương bằng thịt, cũng biết đau đớn, mệt mỏi. Để rồi, MU, Real đều chới với trong cuộc đua tới ngôi vô địch quốc gia và chỉ còn biết bấu víu vào đấu trường Champions League. 

Có lẽ từ giờ đến vài năm nữa, bóng đá đỉnh cao châu Âu sẽ không còn nhìn thấy những "cây trường sinh", như Ronaldo, Ibra hiện tại  hay Maldini, Ryan Giggs, Totti thuở nào nữa.

Chuyên gia bóng đá chỉ ra "âm mưu" của Ronaldo trong phần còn lại mùa giải.

Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic made history in the Champions League this week... but who are the other famous record-breakers?

BY coming on for Manchester United against Basel, Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke a Champions League record.

The iconic Swede became the first and only player to represent seven different sides in Europe’s elite club competition.

And inspired by Zlatan, our friends at Football Whispers took a look at some other famous and not so famous Champions League record holders.

Now 36, the legendary keeper has played 166 times in the Champions League for Real Madrid and Porto.

With the Spanish giants, he lifted the trophy three times, in 2000, 2002 and finally with their long-awaited Decima, the tenth win, in 2014.

The Spaniard also holds the record for the most clean sheets in the competition with 55.

Leading scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

For many, Leo Messi is the greatest player of all time, but he lags behind his greatest rival in terms of Champions League goals.

The Portuguese forward has an impressive 113 in 145 games, the Barcelona legend has 97 in 120 matches.

Sixteen of Ronaldo’s Champions League goals were for Manchester United, while the rest were for Real Madrid.

Perhaps given that no-one has managed more goals than Ronaldo, it’s no surprise that he also has scored the most in a single season.

In Real Madrid’s successful Decima campaign in 2013/14, CR7 played a huge role, scoring 17 throughout the competition, including one in the final as Los Blancos lifted the trophy.

When Real won the trophy again in 2015/16, Ronaldo netted 16 times, meaning he takes second place in the list too.

Youngest player: Celestine Babayaro

Babayaro’s Champions League debut for Anderlecht aged 16 years and 87 days in November 1994 was one to forget for the left-back, despite him becoming the youngest player in the competition.

His introduction to continental football against Steaua Bucharest lasted just 37 minutes, before he was sent off, which also makes him the youngest player to be dismissed in the tournament.

Babayaro joined Chelsea when he was 18 and went on to make more than 130 appearances for the Blues in seven years at Stamford Bridge before moves to Newcastle United and LA Galaxy.

Oldest player: Marco Ballotta

Lazio were the 11th club Ballotta represented and the goalkeeper made his record-breaking appearance for the Serie A side against Real Madrid in December 2007, aged 43 years and 253 days.

Impressively he actually played every one of their Champions League group games that season.

That season also saw Ballotta earn the honour of being the oldest player to play in Serie A game – at the age of 44 years and 38 days.

He retired in summer 2008, before briefly reappearing, bizarrely, as a striker for lower league Calcara Samoggia the following season.

Youngest player to score: Peter Ofori-Quaye

The Ghanaian was just 17 years and 195 days old when he found the back of the net for Olympiacos against Rosenborg in October 1997.

And that wasn’t even the biggest surprise – he was playing top-flight football with Kalamata in Greece aged just 15, which attracted him to Olympiacos aged 17, for a then club record fee of £3million.

He spent six years with Olympiacos before returning to Ghana with Liberty Professionals.

Oldest player to score: Francesco Totti

At 38 years and 59 days, the Roma legend beat his own record when he scored a free-kick against CSKA Moscow in November 2014.

He’d previously become the oldest player to score in the Champions League with his goal against Manchester City the previous September.

He also became the oldest player to score directly from a free-kick – beating Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs by nearly three years.

Only player to win the Champions League with three different clubs: Clarence Seedorf

The Dutch midfielder first lifted the trophy with Ajax in 1995, before repeating the feat with Real Madrid in 1998.

He then was part of two more victorious AC Milan sides, both in 2003 and 2007. The only club he played for in the competition that he didn’t win it with was Inter Milan.

Most sendings-off: Edgar Davids and Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The Dutchman and the Swede share the record for most sendings off, with four each.

Ibrahimovic has been shown two straight reds while Davids’ four dismissals were all for two yellows at Juventus.

The now Manchester United forward was sent off twice for Paris Saint-Germain, once for Juventus and once for Inter.

Most yellow cards: Paul Scholes

The former Manchester United midfielder had a reputation for being a poor tackler, so it’s perhaps no surprise he received 32 yellow cards in the Champions League.

The most notable was in the semi-final against Juventus in 1999, which meant he missed the famous win over Bayern Munich in the final which clinched the Red Devils’ treble.
