Join artist Sara Choudhrey to learn how to make Islamic Geometric Patterns. Top tips from members of the ACAVA community include, ‘Take your time and use tracing paper to repeat your patterns’, ‘ try to sit comfortably at the right angle’ and ‘concentrate and be patient, results will come!’.
The technique is wonderfully meditative, and great for mindfulness. Why not find an hour or two for yourself to sit somewhere quiet at home, with a cup of tea and give it go.

In our guide, participants are encouraged to come together to collaborate, bringing a small number of objects from home they are attached to. In these extraordinary circumstances, this could be an opportunity to invite friends and/or family to work together remotely via the safety of their own homes. Perhaps you could exchange photos of each others assemblages and take it in turns to draw each others sculptures.
We would love to see your work, please take a picture of any creations you make, upload this onto your favourite social media platform and tag us #ACAVAathome.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo inspired portraits by Emily Fuller and Felix Fuller-Kerley
Join Creativity Clinic artists Emily and Felix to explore the work of Renaissance artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo who is sometimes referred to as the grandfather of Surrealism.
Arcimboldo used fruit, veg and other organic matter to create fascinating portraits of royalty in the 16th century.
This activity is great for all the family. Emily and Felix create their own portraits from fruit and vegetables and make delicious soup from the art afterwards!
Don't forget to take a photo of your creations, upload them on to your preferred social media platform and tag us #ACAVAathome so we can celebrate and share your work!
For those interested in animation, the animator Jan Svankmajer, celebrates Archimboldo's work here. Perhaps you can create your own animated portrait....

Picasso Collage by Emily Fuller
Join ACAVA’s Creativity Clinic team, Emily and Felix, for some Picasso-inspired collage. Emily was lucky to catch the ‘Picasso and Paper’ exhibition at The Royal Academy before it closed due to social distancing restrictions. It inspired her to get creative at home, all you need to join her is some scrap paper, scissors, glue or tape and your imagination.
The Royal Academy has moved the exhibition online, so you too can see the work and be inspired. Here is the link.
Some other sources of inspiration can be found in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, including these works in the online catalogue:
Glass, Guitar, and Bottle GuitarCéret
Once you have made a collage of your own, why not take this quiz from The Royal Academy, to see ‘How Picasso are you?’. Let us know how you get on.
You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, please share photos of your creations and work in progress via your preferred platform.
Also remember to use #ACAVAathome so we can like and share your creations.

Why not make a hanging sculpture to hang by an open window during the nice weather, it will cast interesting shadows in the sunshine, and gently move with the breeze.

Special thanks to Peter Morey, who led this project and created this guide with designer May Glen and residents of north Kensington.
This guide was made as part of the Art for Wellbeing: Everyday programme, delivered in partnership with NHS West London Clinical Commissioning Group from ACAVA’s Blechynden St Studios in summer 2019.
