“What’s wrong?” (Kat)
Kat looked up from where he was staring out the window to give a tense smile. “Just a bad day. The city’s spirits are being particularly bothersome today. It happens every so often.” he explained, sipping his coffee. “Come sundown, they’ll settle.”

Kat walked along the street, enjoying the festive like fear the Halloween season brought out in humans. He was well aware that the week of Halloween - All Hallow's Eve - was the one week where the lines between the mortal world and the afterlife were paper thin. Hands tucked into his jacket pockets as he walked, the demigod hummed a tune as he headed for his favorite bar. He opened the door, finding a place at the bar itself and perching in his favorite chair, ordering a brandy on ice as he greeted the other regulars.

History:  Kataigida never knew where he came from; nor that there was any chance he could be half-god. His mother, bless her soul, died in childbirth and Kat was sent off to an orphanage. However, the child’s story is not so simple. For several years, Kat would be given to families in hopes of adoption, but strange things would happen. Especially if Kat got mad or frustrated at the families that took him in. He would be sent back within weeks of being taken, and the cycle repeated every few months. He hated the orphanage, but he was still very young and knew nothing of the world. So he opted to stay where he felt he had a minor chance of safety. But even that, Kat would find, could be taken away. He was ten when the last family to try and adopt him took him in. He was unaware they were faeries, because they never told him. However, upon arriving, Kat knew he wasn’t very welcomed. And he was right. Spirits that stayed in the family’s home hated him, and eventually got strong enough to throw things. Kat tried to endure, hoping they would go away, but when they didn’t, he finally broke. Screaming at them to go away and never come back, he was stunned when they did. One of them even looked peaceful. Whatever he had done had made them go away, and when they didn’t come back for a few days, Kat was glad. The family, however, was not. They carted him.back to the orphanage and it was from there he was tossed around. In a year, Kat saw ten orphanages, six more families, and was abused by people of all power and ranks in the system meant to care for him. He drew the line when he got stabbed and the family told doctors he’d done it to himself (yeah, cuz stabbing yourself in the back perfectly is such an easy task). He was told he would never recover, that he would be paralyzed until the day he died. Kat was glad when just days after his twelfth birthday, he was not only able to stand, but walk all on his own with no canes or crutches. He didn’t tell anyone, but instead did the one thing he knew would grant him the freedom he needed. He ran. At twelve, he found it easy to get sympathy, but as he grew older, he found it a lot harder. He discovered he could change shadows by mistake and experimented, soon teaching himself how to do anything he wanted with the shadows. Most who saw him would run in fear once they realized he could wield the uncertain darkness around him. His umbrakinesis became his lifeline in several ways, including surviving on stolen goods as he wandered. He never had a lot of money as he worked, usually just enough to keep a roof over his head and the occasional new outfit or shoes. He struggled with hunger, but managed as he continued his daily routine of staying alive and nothing else. The most life changing event would happen just after his twenty-first birthday. He was approached by a nameless woman in the tavern where he worked, who told him he was bound for greatness if only he unlocked it. Kat dismissed it, as he’d heard much the same thing several times in his life. But the woman returned daily for months, and eventually Kat demanded what it was she wanted from him that had her stalking him in such a way it was hard to make a living. Though the woman never told him her name, she did tell him one very critical piece of information that haunted Kat for weeks. He was the prince of the underworld; the son of Hades. Kat couldn’t believe it at first, but then again, he didn’t believe much of anything he heard in the taverns. Not until the god himself showed up at his door. His mother dying was what caused him to be lost to his father, and it had taken years to finally track him down. Kay couldn’t really believe it at first, until Hades showed him his own magic with shadows, and Kat let the god into his life. The last ten years of his life he has been training his control, learning his powers and getting to know his father, stepmother and half sister.
