"I'm not an artist but-"
I'm gonna stop you right there. If you're not an artist then you shouldn't be going around telling artists what they are and aren't allowed to do with their art. If someone wants to make sparkledog ocs well into their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, fucking when they're 100, let them. They are literally not hurting anyone. If they enjoy what they do and like how it looks and are generally content with their art, it's not cringe and you need to leave them be and let them do what they want.
Also I think that's such a bullshit take to be like "if you show your art to anyone then you need to expect criticism. Actually, unwanted criticism is fucking stupid! Do NOT ever give criticism on someone's art unless they consented to it. Because I can tell you from experience (AS AN ARTIST) that whenever I am proud of my art and like it and want to share it with others because I'm excited and happy, and then someone comes out and is like "you made the eyes lopsided and the arms are too long and etc etc" I start to hate my art and it makes me want to stop drawing because then I expect all my art to be "wrong" and "bad".
There's no such thing as bad art, because if that were true then those paintings that are only like three colors wiped across a canvas would be considered bad art. "Bad" art is subjective. Everyone views art differently. What might be "bad" or "cringe" to you might be a masterpiece to someone else.
You're not an artist. You say so yourself. Therefore you do not have a say in how someone does art. And even if you were an artist, you STILL have no say in how someone does art.
So sit down and keep your opinions to yourself.
"cringe culture is dead" applies to all ages by the way. a 30-year-old can make a sparkledog oc and it's just as acceptable as when a 13-year-old does it
