[ad_1] File photo of MS Dhoni.© BCCIThe 17th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is hardly three months away from its start. The mini auction took place on December 19 in Dubai and now all the teams are gearing up for the upcoming season. While Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni will be a part of the tournament in 2024 as well, the fans still wonder whether he would be continuing his stint even after the end of the upcoming season. Keeping the curiosity intact among the fans, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that only Dhoni could say if it is going to be his last edition."That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do," Viswanathan said as quoted by The Indian Express.Dhoni went through a knee surgery in early June this year. Currently, the player is going through rehab and he is expected to be match-fit well ahead of IPL 2024."He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days he'll start working in the nets also," said Viswanathan. In a bid to retain their Indian Premier League (IPL) title, CSK did some exceptional business at the Players Auction in Dubai on December 19. The MS Dhoni-led side roped in six players in total, with New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell as their most expensive buy, priced at Rs 14 crore. The five-time champions stunned everyone when they bought uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore. CSK resigned India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, following his release from KKR.Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2] Source link

In a significant development preceding the Indian Premier Legue (IPL) 2024 auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are expected to let go of England star Ben Stokes. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the decision arose from apprehensions about Stokes’ probable unavailability for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.Ben Stokes’ restricted participation and regrettable injurySnapped up by CSK for a hefty INR 16.25 crore in the most recent mini-auction in Kochi, Stokes had a marginal impact on the preceding season. The versatile England player featured in just two games, and it has been confirmed that he will undergo surgery on his left knee, requiring nearly a couple of months for recuperation.Unwillingness to take risks on availabilityDespite the player signaling a focus on the IPL post-World Cup, CSK management remains uncertain about his availability for the 2024 season. Allegedly inconclusive discussions with Stokes and the absence of direct contact with the player, even after England’s World Cup campaign concluded, add to the uncertainty. Also READ: Australia’s captain Pat Cummins discusses potential participation in IPL 2024“We wouldn’t entertain the idea of releasing Stokes if he could be available because he is a significant match player, and we regard him highly. However, if he can’t make it to the season, we will have tied up Rs 16 crore, which we could utilize to acquire some high-caliber players,” said a CSK official.Other potential releasesIn addition to Stokes, speculation surrounds the potential release of New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Originally secured by Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022 for INR 10 crore, Ferguson was traded to KKR in 2023.Also READ: 5 Teams that could go after Travis Head in the IPL 2024 auction https://crickettimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Ben-Stokes-to-be-released-ahead-of-IPL-2024-auction.webp #Chennai #Super #Kings #set #release #England #star #Ben #Stokes #ahead #IPL #auction

Players to replace Kyle Jamieson in CSK squad for IPL 2023
Chennai Super Kings picked Kyle Jamieson, the New Zealand quick at the IPL 2023 mini auction for a price of 1 Cr. Considering CSK's woe at the previous IPL season, he was an attractive option for the side. He can bowl at the death and also contribute with the bat. His height, pace and ability to extract bounce from the surface could have made him a challenging proposition for the batsmen, especially in away games for CSK in conditions that suit fast bowling in pitches like Wankhade and Jaipur.
However, Jamieson's recurring back injury flared up during the ongoing test series vs England and is reported that the tall fast bowler will undergo a surgery in February. He will then be sidelined for at least 4 months and hence might miss the entirety of IPL 2023 season.
With two foreign pace bowling options in the rank: an experienced veteran Dwaine Pretorius from SA and a young Promising Srilankan pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana, CSK might require another fast bowling option to bolster their bowling stock, especially to add someone to bowl at the death.
What is CSK's strength and weakness
CSK's biggest strength is their skipper MS Dhoni, who has a wealth of experience in T20 cricket and having led the team to multiple IPL titles in the past. They also have a strong contingent of all-rounders in Ben Stokes, Ravi Jadeja and Moeen Ali.
Chepauk is a slow pitch that typically favors spinners, and the team has a good mix of spinners in Jadeja, Moeen Ali, M Satner and M Theekshana. They have built a core side who have a good understanding of the conditions in Chepauk.
However, CSK lacks a genuine pace bowler who can bowl at the death overs especially in away games, which can be crucial in T20 cricket. The inexperience in pace department is a concern with the likes of Mukesh Chowdhary, Simarjeet Singh and Matheesha Pathirana who may struggle to perform at the death overs under pressure.
In their last season, they had three death bowling specialist in Dwaine Pretorius, Dwayne Bravo and Chris Jordan. However, all three being similar pace off bowlers didn't help their cause as they were easily lined up and were unsuccessful. CSK released Chris Jordan and retained DJ Bravo as their bowling coach for the upcoming season.
Kyle Jamieson was picked in the mini-auction to add a variety to the bowling attack. His height, accuracy and ability to swing the bowl at pace would have given CSK an additional option especially in the away matches.
Replacement for Kyle Jamieson
With CSK wary of a repeat of last season finish, let's look at the options from Unsold players list for them to name a replacement.
1. Gerald Coetzee
Gerald Coetzee is a young South African fast bowler who has been making a name for himself in the T20 format. Coetzee is known for his ability to bowl with good pace and extract bounce from the pitch, which can make him a difficult bowler to face for batsmen.
Coetzee is a promising young bowler with the potential to become a valuable asset in T20 cricket.

2. Tymal Mills
Tymal Mills is an English left-arm fast bowler who is known for his ability to bowl with high pace and execute yorkers consistently, making him an effective bowler in the death overs in T20 cricket.

3. Nathan Coulter-Nile
Nathan Coulter-Nile is an Australian right-arm fast bowler who is known for his ability to bowl with good pace and accuracy in T20 cricket.
Coulter-Nile is particularly effective in the death overs of T20 matches because of his ability to execute yorkers and slower balls with precision. He has a natural ability to hit the block hole consistently and can also bowl a range of slower balls, including the off-cutter and the knuckleball, which can deceive the batsmen.

Overall, Meredith is a promising young bowler with the potential to become a valuable asset in T20 cricket.

5. Luke Wood
Luke Wood is a left-arm fast bowler who has represented various teams in T20 leagues around the world. Wood is known for his ability to bowl with good pace and swing the ball consistently.
Wood has also been effective in the Power play overs, where he has picked up early wickets with his ability to swing the ball. He has shown good control over his line and length.

6 Wayne Parnell

Ultimately, the choice of who should replace Kyle Jamieson will depend on CSK team management and the player availability.

[ad_1] NEW DELHI: The mini auctions in the IPL have consistently captivated audiences due to the high demand and limited supply of players, particularly in terms of quality Indian talent. This setting often results in eye-catching deals for players who might have faced challenges garnering attention in a mega auction scenario. Here is a look at possible auction strategy for teams:1) Chennai Super KingsPurse Left: Rs 31.4 crorePotential Players of Interest:Shardul Thakur, Manish Pandey, Josh HazlewoodHaving previously been a part of CSK, Shardul Thakur is a seasoned Indian campaigner known for his ability to bowl during the death overs and contribute with the bat lower down the order, typically coming in at No.8. CSK might be willing to bid up to Rs 10 crore or more to secure Shardul's services. In addition, with the departure of Ambati Rayudu, CSK is likely to seek an Indian batter, and the experienced Manish Pandey could be a viable and cost-effective option given the limited number of experienced Indian players available in the auction. If there's a focus on strengthening the pace department, Josh Hazlewood emerges as a potential choice.2) Delhi CapitalsPurse Left: Rs 28.95 crorePotential Players of Interest: Priyansh Arya, Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jos Inglis, Wanindu HasarangaThe Indian batting contingent is currently the Achilles' heel for Delhi Capitals, and describing their assortment as poor might be an understatement. Keep an eye on Delhi state team opener Priyansh Arya, who showcased his prowess with some impressive performances during the SMAT T20.Additionally, two relatively unknown but highly acclaimed youngsters from Uttar Pradesh, Sameer Rizvi and Swastik Chikkara, are expected to be closely observed. This duo displayed brilliance in the UPCA T20 league, making them intriguing prospects for the upcoming auction. On a tacky Feroz Shah Kotla track, Harshal Patel is a seasoned campaigner, whose slower ones could cause damage.3) Gujarat TitansPurse Left: Rs 38.15 crorePotential Players of Interest: Shardul Thakur, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Azmatullah Omarzai.Whatever they do, even Gujarat Titans fans would agree that there can't be a replacement of Hardik Pandya as a whole package. Shardul Thakur at best would be a 50 to 60 percent replacement. Rachin Ravindra could be a choice but then Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan will take first three spots in batting order.4) Kolkata Knight RidersPurse Left: Rs 32.70 crorePotential Players of Interest: Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Rachin Ravindra, Harshal Patel. What KKR needs immediately is a couple of good pace bowlers, preferably one among Australia's Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins or Jos Hazlewood along with Harshal Patel, who is always a handy option.5) Lucknow Super GiantsPurse Left: Rs 13.15 crorePotential Players of Interest: Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka, Ashutosh SharmaLSG would look at another quality fast bowling option apart from Mark Wood. Starc, Hazlewood and South African Gerald Coetzee are three options readily available. Among left-arm pacer, there is Nandre Burger and Dilshan Madushanka. Among uncapped Indian batters, there is Railwayman Ashutosh Sharma, who scored 12-ball-50 in SMAT.6) Mumbai IndiansPurse Left: Rs 17.75 crorePotential Players of Interest: Hasaranga, Manav Suthar, Ashutosh Sharma, Darshan MisalMI doesn't have too much money but its scout will make a bargain buy in terms of uncapped Indian players. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar has made quite an impression and was also part of MI's talent development squad. In terms of foreign spinners, there is Wanindu Hasaranga.7) Sunrisers HyderabadPurse Left: Rs 34 crorePotential Players of Interest: Anyone and everyoneWith not many Indian players in the roster, Shardul and Harshal could well be their choice too and they can bid deep. But they would need at least one good foreign pacer and one more top-order batter - preferably Indian.8) Royal Challengers BengaluruPurse Left: Rs 23.25 crorePotential Players of Interest: Starc, Cummins, Manav SutharRCB freed Rs 10.75 crore paid to Harshal Patel in order to bid for a overseas pacer and the three Australian pacers will be much in demand. With Mo Bobat joining the RCB ranks, it will be interesting to see if Englishmen Gus Atkinson or Reece Topley get good bids.9) Punjab KingsPurse Left: Rs 29.10 crorePotential Players of Interest: Shardul, Harshal, Rachin RavindraPunjab Kings have two overseas slots left and if they follow their old trend of going for the flavour of the season, then Rachin Ravindra could be a potential pick and they have the money to go the distance for the Kiwi. However what they need urgently is a quality Indian pacer and the three options are Harshal, Shardul and Umesh Yadav.10) Rajasthan RoyalsPurse Left: 14.50 crorePotential Players of Interest: Mainly domestic Indian batters like Sameer Rizvi, Swastik Chikkara, Ashutosh Sharma, Abhimanyu Singh, Saurabh ChauhanRoyals have always had a good clutch of youngsters picked from domestic tournaments and rigorous trials. All those who have performed in Syed Mushtaq Ali, TNPL, UP Premier League will have a good chance of getting deals.(With PTI Inputs)!(function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) ; var TimesApps = window.TimesApps; TimesApps.toiPlusEvents = function(config) var isConfigAvailable = "toiplus_site_settings" in f && "isFBCampaignActive" in f.toiplus_site_settings && "isGoogleCampaignActive" in f.toiplus_site_settings; var isPrimeUser = window.isPrime; if (isConfigAvailable && !isPrimeUser) loadGtagEvents(f.toiplus_site_settings.isGoogleCampaignActive); loadFBEvents(f.toiplus_site_settings.isFBCampaignActive); loadSurvicateJs(f.toiplus_site_settings.allowedSurvicateSections); else var JarvisUrl="https://jarvis.indiatimes.com/v1/feeds/toi_plus/site_settings/643526e21443833f0c454615?db_env=published"; window.getFromClient(JarvisUrl, function(config) if (config) loadGtagEvents(config?.isGoogleCampaignActive); loadFBEvents(config?.isFBCampaignActive); loadSurvicateJs(config?.allowedSurvicateSections); ) ; )( window, document, 'script', ); [ad_2] Source link
