I’m sorry it took me so long to get this chapter out - it’s been done, I’ve just been lazy about editing. 

I am absolutely FLOORED by the reaction that you’ve all had to this story, and I cannot thank you enough for the feedback, comments and questions. 

I do want to remind you that things might seem like they’re moving very slowly between these two … but I’m trying to be very respectful of the fact hat there is a marriage here, no matter how broken it might be at this point.

The following Sunday, you were relaxing in your best friend’s backyard while her children played nearby. You didn’t make the trip from your place in Noe Valley to Hayward too often, but the days you spent with Kenzie were welcome breaks for you. That visit was the reason you hadn’t been able to see Jay for a tattoo at his first reschedule suggestion. Your best friend’s birthday meant an afternoon spent with her and her family, lazing in the fading warmth of summer and eating way too much junk food. It was a far cry from the years the two of you had spent together in college - those birthday memories fuzzy and completely devoid of children. But things change.

I'm so excited about this character and the reader! I want to know more about who she's memorializing and of course more about them getting to know each other.

The smile at the end! I picture the classic warm Pedro smile which makes me smile in turn.

Pairing: Jay Castillo x Female Reader (Eventually.)

Word Count: 3,465

Rating: M? There’s some language, I go into detail about the process of tattooing, vague allusions to the world of Russian organized crime (but that’s what the show was about, soooo), mention of blood and pain, needles … this is just a setup chapter so it’s very tame. 

Summary: When the artist you’ve booked your first tattoo appointment with has to cancel last minute, you’re presented with a possible solution: using another artist in the same shop - Jay Castillo. 

Author’s note:

I am fucking trash for this man’s characters - even all 5:43 of his screen time in this dumpsterfire trainwreck of a show. Why they felt it necessary to INCLUDE the fact that this man is a tattoo artist on the Wiki but then never talk about it on camera is beyond me, but now I’m making it everyone’s problem, too.

I don’t know how long this is going to be (I’m in the middle of writing the 3rd part right now) … but it is what it is. I’m using my general Pedro taglist for this but if you would like to be left off, please feel free to let me know. 

Has anyone ever written for this character? I don’t know. There are 5 stories on AO3 and none of them are about Jay. This is unknown territory. Welcome to the adventure. 

Some bookkeping: The show takes place in San Francisco, so this does too. Canon story elements are intact here: Jay is engaged, his future wife’s family is involved with shady dealings and has been, though she tells him nothing speficic. Jay is a tattoo artist/artist in general, and that’s how he makes his living. Going based on the year that this show came out, I HC that Jay is in his early-mid 30′s.
