How to upgrade the Minisforum MS-01 BIOS
How to upgrade the Minisforum MS-01 BIOS @vexpert @hi_minisforum #vmwarecommunities #homelab #homeserver #ms01bios #ms01upgrade #proxmox #vmware #esxi #biosupgrade #virtualization
If you are running the Minisforum MS-01 in your home lab as a home server, if you are like me, you may have bought one of the first ones that came out right around the first of this year in 2024. If so, you may have an older BIOS from mid-December, like was on my original MS-01. There was BIOS released in March 2024 for the MS-01 which is the current latest version at v1.22. In case you want to…

I recommend once your comfortable with using your desktop distro of choice, you should grab an old unused computer if you have one and check out some of the home server distros out there as well. I cannot understate how much having a network wide ad blocker and digital version of my old dvd/vhs collection improves the internet experience. Some examples include:
Unraid (my current pick),
Proxmox (steep learning curve but my perfect baby),
Openmediavault (mostly for NAS, havent had much luck with it),
Truenas (Same as OMV, also havent had much luck)
CasaOS (less a full distro and more a richly featured docker container, but theres nothing wrong with that)
You can also use any of the big distros like Arch, Debian, Fedora, OpenSuse, or Ubuntu, as they all either have a dedicated server edition or have server utilities and capability right out of the box.
Either way the point is to have fun with it! ^w^
this blog belongs to a future linux enjoyer
i'm doing research on distros and how to install them and what to do afterwards and just a bunch of stuff to help me figure out what's best for me and also trying to gather a little bit of knowledge so i don't fuck up my laptop entirely by making the switch from windows to linux
insane how within my family i am among the most tech-savy people, yet barely know anything. this is gonna be a massive learning curve for me lol (but if all goes well i'm gonna make my dad a linux enjoyer as well, so that'd be cool)

This is my last in a 4 part series. I went with a dedicated server on OVH. This is allowing me to install a variety of operating systems and control panels. I think I’m going to go with Plesk or maybe cPanel (and domain registration through CloudFlare). I’ll be running a dozen or so website domains, a few more subdomains. I’ll have a few WordPress instances using MySQL and PHP. I’ll be the only admin.
I can re-install at anytime, but would like not to have to once I start development. To test things out, I went with:
Linux Plesk Onyx (Debian 9 “Stretch”) – debian9-plesk17 – 64 bit
I made this decision based on nothing more than my current dedicated server at Ionos is Debian 8 and I figured 9 is 1 better than 8. Other than the default control panel installed, would I even ever notice a difference with any of the following options?
Here are the options OVH gives me:
CentOS 6 + SolusVM OpenVZ (Master) – solusvm-master-vz – 64 bit
