Apex predator Time Lord au. Due to a quirk of their biological makeup, they need to eat sapient beings for their psychic energies to survive.

The constant underlying threat that the Doctor could eat his companions.

He doesn't, he won't, he refuses to. He craves companionship like water. His species is so social.

But when the Master, or someone else knowledgeable about Time Lords, asks a question, or makes a quip:

"Are these friends... or snacks?"

"What are you, a vegetarian?"

The Doctor's a bit too defensive. A bit too possessive. Like a dog over a bowl of food, he barks and he circles.

His companions probably don't know why--he hates telling them what he is, what he does. So they don't understand why he's acting like this.

Why he takes it so seriously.

Why he's looking at them like that.
