What are your kids' favorite things to do? Going out for ice cream treat is a big deal in our family, especially when we walk to the store instead of taking the car. Our children loves the long walk/bike ride with their parents. Although they may not express it with words, they're definitely enjoying our emotional connection and physical presence with them when we're doing the family walk together to get ice cream. . . . . . . . . . . #familyweekend #happykids #icecreamforkids #icecreamtreat #familyouting #enjoykids #familywalk #icecreamwalk #ridingwithdaddy #cyclingwithkids #goforicecream #positivefamily #familymoment #thesesimplemoments #changetheworld #familyexercise #kidsouting #caringmom #caringdad #fundad #funmom #familyfun #qualitytimewithkids #makingchildhoodmemories #childhoodtoremember #childhoodmemories #icecreamkid #sweetmemories #workingmothers #sahmlife https://www.instagram.com/p/BuQMz9aguyQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11703ukh3uhd5

Kids Suck! Cycling struggles.
Ok, now don't get the wrong impression, I love my kids as any parent would.......all 4 of them. I just needed a catchy title. However, I have talked to many women that hate kids.......or rather, hate the thought of having kids because they believe they will have to buy a car if they have a child. I used to think this same way, but it is FALSE!!!!! You do not, I REPEAT, YOU DO NOT, have to own a motorized vehicle to have a child!!!!! Our society is so focused on fear mongering sales pitches to sell that "top-of-the-line", "first-in-its-class", "best crash test rated" vehicles on the market. Well, I hate to break it to you......but ANY motorized vehicle is WAY MORE DANGEROUS than any bicycle that you could chose to raise your family with. Yep, you heard me correctly!
More than 37,000 people died in the United States in 2017 due to motorized vehicle crashes. Guess how many died due to bicycle crashes in the same year....? Wanna know?! It was 777. Yep, about 2 percent. Not a typo! Every year only approximately 2 percent of all traffic deaths are cyclists.
Ok, ok, ok.......  many people will argue with these figures. So, I am going to take a different stance. When you have been in a vehicle accident......like the majority of Americans have been.....how bad was it? Whiplash, lacerations, emergency vehicles, hospitals, weeks of recovery, broken bones, lawyers, a tow company, impound lot, mounds of paperwork and phone calls figuring out who was at fault........? Any of that sound familiar???? When you've had a bicycle accident.....how bad was it? Did you scrape your knee? Break a fingernail? Knock your wheel out of true? Did your bike cause a massive amount of property or bodily damage that your insurance refused to cover?!?
I'm sure you can see where I am going with this.......subtlety is NOT a strong suit.... It's not just the ridiculously high cost of buying a vehicle that I am against. It's insuring that vehicle, the maintenance on that vehicle, the danger of that vehicle, the extreme cost of an accident in that vehicle..... You do not have to own a vehicle to have children, in fact, I would argue that you shouldn't own a vehicle if you have a child. When you are behind the wheel in one of those enclosed metal boxes of death, you convince yourself that you are more safe because you are out of the natural elements of mother nature. You're just lying to yourself! You not only are less safe, but you are more likely to spend more money on quick food, gas, and random stops than you would if you were on bike.
Sure, throwing your baby into a car seat and jumping behind the wheel SEEMS like an easier way of life. But, it's not. You pack your days with errand after errand, always looking for that one more thing to do because your thought process says you can fit it in as long as you can quickly drive from point A to point B. All the while you are spending hundreds of dollars more because of your vehicle.......and that's just if you own ONE vehicle for your household.
All of this being said.....I am not advocating to eliminate ALL vehicles. I am simply asking you to ask yourself the question "Do I really need one, two....even three vehicles?!" My gut reaction says absolutely not! Can you imagine yourself driving less?
Let's let that sink in for a bit.
Cheers, peeps!
