Daily Drabbles for 5/1/25 - 5/5/25
5/1/25 Donna needed a book on landscaping. As far as she could tell, however, the library didn't seem to have any. There were plenty of books on gardening. Whole shelves full of how to grow various types of plants is various types of circumstances and environments. There were four books on rock gardens. One hefty tome all about trees. But, to Donna's increasing frustration, she could find no books on landscaping in general. There had to be more that went into than just planting a couple flowers in the yard. Donna didn't know. That's why she wanted to get a book.
5/2/25 Jessica had been hoping to spend the weekend hanging out with her friends. They were all finally done with finals and had some free time before summer break started and everyone was off on some adventure or another. Jessica had like three different camps she would be going to over the next couple of months. Her best friend Kaya was going on a family vacation to Maine for three weeks in June. So Jessica really wanted to spend some time together while they still could. But now it was looking like her Dad had some other plans for the weekend.
5/3/25 Kris glanced up at the sky apprehensively. It was a beautiful blue with a handful of fluffy clouds floating across it. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the trees had taken on a distinctly green fuzz where leaves were beginning to bud. It was a balmy 50 degrees and the days were only getting warmer. Kris didn't trust any of it. Just because there was no snow in the forecast didn't mean a freak storm couldn't still blow in and bury everything under a cold white blanket. It was too early to put away the snow blower.
5/4/25 Aunt Matilda had a cat problem. She had too many. She lived in a tiny two bedroom house on a tiny plot of land and had absolutely no room for the seven cats she owned. Now, seven wasn't the most cats a person could have, especially when it came to crazy cat ladies. There were much worse out there than Aunt Matilda. But in Aunt Matilda's case even seven cats was five cats too many. And honestly, two cats would have been pushing it. Doable, perhaps, but still pushing it considering her housing situation. Aunt Matilda had too many cats.
5/5/25 Dave ran down the pier as fast as he could and hurled himself into the water before he had a chance to change his mind. The water was frigid. Dave gasped in shock as he emerged from his dive. Dave released several high pitched yells as he desperately tread water trying to warm up. Supposedly he was supposed to acclimate to the temperature after a few minutes, but it still felt as cold as when he had first taken the plunge. Dave was not happy, but he wasn't about to give up yet. He beckoned for Jerry to join him.

Daily Drabbles for 4/26/25 - 4/30/25
4/26/25 Joy leaned back in his chair and sipped on his coconut drink. Sorrow was intently focused on getting a fire started. He was kneeling in the sand, bent over the fire pit and carefully rearranging the wood. Happiness was standing in the water with a drink of her own in her hand. The sun was setting and the stars were starting to come out. Joy took a deep breath of sea air. It had been a long time since he had felt this relaxed. The weather was nice, he was comfortably seated, and he was with his two favorite people.
4/27/25 Gerard had never seen a ghost before. Frankly, he had never even believed they existed until he actually saw one for himself. He still wasn't entirely sure that it was a ghost that he had seen, but Gerard had definitely seen something, and it had sure looked like a ghost. Maybe he was just going crazy. Cheyenne's friends had come over to investigate his claims. They didn't think he was crazy. They were, however, concerned he might have carbon monoxide poisoning. Gerard didn't think so, but it was a relief nonetheless that the ghost experts were looking at all possibilities.
4/28/25 Corbin had a lot of nerve coming into Jory's cubicle after the mess he made in the break room microwave. It was one thing to make a mess in a shared space and not clean up after yourself, but to do it with another man's lunch was a whole other level of poor manners. Jory frowned his grumpiest frown as he slowly spun around his chair to look Corbin directly in the eyes. Corbin could smile blandly and pretend he had no idea what Jory was upset about all he wanted. Jory knew. And Jory knew Corbin knew he knew.
4/29/25 Dogs were so cool. Rachel could never get enough of them. They came in so many different shapes and sizes and colors. And they could do so many different kinds of jobs. Truly, they were Man's best friend. Rachel couldn't imagine life without a dog. Having a little guy who lived in your house and was always happy to see you. Who wouldn't want that? Not Harvey apparently. He hated dogs. He thought they were dirty, and smelly, and too much trouble. Well, Rachel thought Harvey was too much trouble to keep dating. She would have to breakup with him.
4/30/25 Dora wanted some nachos. Dora did not want to make the nachos. She just wanted to have them. And eat them. Alas, there were no nachos in the house for Dora to eat. She would have to leave the house to get some nachos, or else just make them. Between the two options Dora hated leaving the house more so she resigned herself to making the nachos. It was a whole thing with trying to get the ratio of cheese to salsa to chips just right and then getting the cheese properly melted. But in the end Dora had nachos.

Daily Drabbles for 4/21/25 - 4/25/25
4/21/25 Jonathan sang along with the radio as he drove down the deserted country road. There was nothing but large open fields on either side of them. Leslie was leaned against the passenger side window with her eyes closed. She wasn't saying anything, but Jonathan had a feeling she wasn't asleep. He certainly wasn't being very quiet with his singing, and it was no smooth ride down the worn out dirt road they were on. Between all the bumps and his poor attempts to hit the high notes, Jonathan didn't think anyone could sleep. But Leslie sure seemed to be trying.
4/22/25 Georgia dug through her purse looking for a pen. She found three, but had no idea if any of them worked. Georgia set the pens on the counter and then returned to her purse, this time looking for a pad of paper. She found an old notepad with a phone number for a radon testing company printed across the bottom of it. Georgia scrawled little spirals on the pad with each of the pens. Two of them worked fine. The third was out of ink. Georgia grabbed one of the working pens and threw everything else back in her purse.
4/23/25 Jake swept the broom across the worn wooden floor. It always amazed him how much dirt piled up each day. People tracked it in all day and then he swept it back out just for it to get tracked back in again. It was a war that would never end. Well, as long as Jake kept sweeping. He could never defeat the dirt, but one day it would defeat him. The dirt would come for them all eventually. People would come and go, but dirt was forever. These were the kind of thoughts Jake had whenever he had to sweep.
4/24/25 Rae yawned and rolled over. She wasn't really feeling like getting up today. It wasn't like she had any pressing appointments to get to. Nothing that needed to be done immediately. If she really wanted, she could just stay in bed all day. Rae snuggled into her pillow and tugged her blanket more securely around her. Well, she probably wouldn't spend all day in bed. That would actually get boring eventually. But, Rae could manage another couple of hours easily enough. Rae sighed contentedly. Yeah, just a couple more hours of sleep. Then Rae would get up and do something.
4/25/25 Harry shuffled along through the house, sniffing intensely as he went. Someone was cooking something tasty. Going by the smell anyway. He wandered into the kitchen where the smell was the strongest. Which made sense when Harry thought about it. If someone was cooking something, of course they'd be doing it in the kitchen. Unless Eddie was grilling again. Harry glanced out the sliding glass door at the back patio. No, Eddie wasn't grilling right now. But he was standing at the stove, frying up something in a pan. Harry walked up to the stove. Eddie was cooking some bacon.

Daily Drabbles for 4/16/25 - 4/20/25
4/16/25 Mabel leaned back in the lawn chair and closed her eyes. There was still a bite of cold on the air, but the sun was nice and warm and the sky was free of clouds for once. Mabel planned to take full advantage of the sun for as long as it planned on sticking around. There was still too much of winter hanging around. They were unlikely to get a proper spring before summer finally arrived, and there was no telling when the summer would finally arrive. Or if it wouldn't bring more bad weather with it when it did.
4/17/25 Harper could smell burnt toast. Either he was having a stroke or Brook was trying to make breakfast again. She had been sneaky and waited till he was in the shower before she started. Now he was in a rush to finish dressing and get to the kitchen before she set it on fire. Something she'd actually managed to do once before. Harper grumbled as he hurriedly did up the buttons on his shirt. Now that he was paying attention he could hear Brook banging around in the kitchen. There was no telling what she was cooking up in there.
4/18/25 I should have gone to bed hours ago, but I just couldn't seem to stop myself from clicking on to the next chapter whenever I finished the one I was currently reading. They always ended on such cliffhangers. I had to know what happened next. There were far too many chapters in the fic for me to conceivably read them all in one sitting. I would have to stop eventually. I just had to find a good place to do it. And there was just too much crazy stuff going on in the story for me to stop reading yet.
4/19/25 There was too much chocolate in the house. It wasn't fair. What was Maddie supposed to do? Not indulge herself every time she passed by a bowl full of some chocolaty treat or another. And really, the cookies only lasted so long before they started to go stale. Maddie was doing her part in making sure they all got eaten while they were still good. It wasn't her fault that her dad had bought the big gallon of chocolate milk that expired in only a week. He never checked the expiration dates. Maddie had to have a glass every day.
4/20/25 Dana wanted to sing, really she did. It's just that her allergies were acting up and getting in the way. Someone in the room must have been wearing some heavy perfume or something because Dana's seasonal allergies hadn't hit yet. She knew they were coming, and there had been some days when she'd come back from a walk more stuffed up than she'd been when she'd left. But now, Dana couldn't help but cough every couple of minutes. Otherwise, she was fine. Her nose and throat were clear. She just couldn't stop herself from coughing. It was really annoying her.

Daily Drabbles for 4/11/25 - 4/15/25
4/11/25 Danny drummed his fingers on the counter as he stared up at the menu, even though he already knew what he wanted. He smiled at the teenaged girl standing at the register. She stared blandly back at him with all the indifference of a minimum wage employee who'd been at work far too long and was desperate for their shift to end. Danny ordered his usual and then got out of the way. He didn't have time for small talk anyway. As soon as his smoothie was ready, Danny grabbed it and was out the door and in the sun.
4/12/25 Arnold flipped on the lights and immediately regretted it. He threw a hand over his eyes and stumbled forward as he waited for them to adjust to the sudden brightness. He'd set out his clothes the night before so it was easy enough to throw them on while only peeking out between nearly closed eyelids. By the time he was pulling his socks on Arnold could open his eyes fully without wincing. Still, it was something of a relief when he opened his bedroom door and stepped out into the dark hallway. Arnold always hated getting up before the sunrise.
4/13/25 Ethan ran his hands through his hair. What was left of it anyway. The barber had cut it a little shorter than he was used to and he was still getting used to it. Ethan couldn't say he liked the look very much. His head never looked right when he cut his hair too short. He needed a little length and volume to look like a normal person with normal sized and shaped head. Fortunately, having too short hair was easily fixed. He just needed to wait for it to grow back. In the meantime though, he'd be wearing hats.
4/14/25 Cleo eyed the box sitting on the counter. There were only two doughnuts left and she'd already had four of the original dozen that were in there. She had no idea how many doughnuts William and Genny had had. At least six between the two of them. But they'd had as much time as Cleo to eat their fair share and Cleo had a feeling that at least one of them wasn't as enthusiastic about the pastries as she was. If only she could be sure though… Would they really mind if she had one more? Cleo needed to know.
4/15/25 Jenna dumped a cup full of ice cubes into the blender. There was still plenty of room so she added a few more ice cubes. Jenna picked up the cutting board and dumped all the strawberries she'd cut up into the blender with the ice. When she'd prepared the strawberries, she felt like she had a lot of them, but after adding them to the blender there didn't look to be as many as she thought. Jenna glanced around the kitchen. There was a banana that was starting to turn brown. Jenna peeled it and threw it in the blender.

Daily Drabbles for 4/6/25 - 4/10/25
4/6/25 John knew he ought to take a break. He had been playing video games all afternoon and his brain was starting to get a little fuzzy. John was having a hard time concentrating on the gameplay and thinking his way through the problems the game threw at him. He'd been stuck on what should have been an easy level for far too long. After dying for something like the hundredth time, John finally gave up and paused the game. He'd go have a sandwich and stare at something other than a screen for a change and see if that helped.
4/7/25 Vina leaned against the marble pillar and stared out across the city. The sun had dropped below the horizon and the sky to the west was a vibrant, warm pink. People were still out and about, though the foot traffic had considerably slowed down. Vina glanced over towards the front of the temple and was unsurprised to find Arsus also lounging against a pillar and staring out at the city. For as casual as he could be sometimes, Vina could hardly call him a slacker. After all, he was still on duty when his shift should have ended hours ago.
4/8/25 Lydia stepped out into the fine, overcast April afternoon. Green was beginning to creep back into the world. It was peeking out around the edges of the trees and lawns. The weather had been very pleasant the past few weeks, and Lydia was looking forward to a casual midday stroll. As she stepped off of her front porch she was blasted with a cold breeze, and as she wrapped her arms around herself for warmth, Lydia noticed tiny snowflakes gently wafting on the wind. It would seem that spring had not yet quite sprung. Lydia turned back for her coat.
4/9/25 Jack scooped up some snow in his bare hands and started packing it together. It was the perfect consistency for making snowballs with. Not too dry and powdery, not too melted and mushy. Just right. Jack quickly and deftly made an armful of the frozen projectiles before he slunk forward between the trees. The others had all kept moving, unaware that Jack had fallen behind. As soon as Jack caught back up with them he wasted no time in unleashing his arsenal on the four of them. Each snowball hit its intended target. Jack cackled as his friends all yelled.
4/10/25 Liz flipped over a card. Ten of spades. There wasn't anywhere she could use it, so she flipped over another card. Eight of hearts. That she could work with. She placed it on the nine of clubs and then she was able to move over the seven of clubs with the six of diamonds. Which meant she could flip over the card that had been under the seven. It was a four of spades. That didn't help her any. There was nowhere she could move it and no threes to place on it. Liz would have to draw another card.

Daily Drabbles for 4/1/25 - 4/5/25
4/1/25 Billie ran down the street. She had missed her bus already, but if she could get to the bus stop two blocks over before the next bus on that line left, then she might be able to make up some lost time. She was having trouble running in her heels, Billie knew she was going to have blisters from this. Billie reached the correct street just as the bus was pulling up to the stop. She picked up her pace and managed to make it onto the bus before the doors shut. Billie collapsed into a seat sighing in relief.
4/2/25 Jade took a deep breath as she held up the bowling ball, then she stepped forward and sent it rolling down the lane. It started off well, but the further along it went the more to the right it swerved until it finally rolled into the gutter right before it could hit any of the pins. Jade groaned in frustration and threw her head back. She had been getting gutter balls all night. Melody laughed at her as she stood up to take her turn. Jade stomped past without a word and slumped into her seat. Melody winked at her.
4/3/25 Chris sprayed the table and then quickly wiped it down before moving on to the next one. In a matter of minutes he had cleaned all the tables by the windows on the south side of the building. He went over the row again with a different towel, this time going over the chairs at each table. Then Chris switched back to the first towel as he sprayed and wiped the tables in the center of the dining area. That was his method, tables first, then go back for the chairs and benches. It just seemed the most efficient way.
4/4/25 Kelly glanced out the window at the sky. It was getting later in the evening but it was still light out. Kelly didn't need to close the blinds yet. It was surprising how fast the light had come back once they passed the spring equinox. The light had slowly been creeping back in leading up to spring, but now the days were longer than Kelly had seen in a long time. Winter always felt like it went on forever. It was a little disorienting how abruptly it had ended. Not that Kelly was complaining. She was eager for more sunlight.
4/5/25 Irma had a hankering for ice cream. They had run out weeks ago, but Irma kept forgetting to buy more whenever they went to the store. It hadn't been a problem yet. But now Irma really wanted some. She couldn't say why. It just sounded good to her. They had plenty of other goodies around the house, but Irma wasn't interested in any of them. She didn't want cookies, or candy, or even pudding. She was in the mood for ice cream and nothing else would satisfy her. Irma grabbed her car keys. Something needed to be done about this.

Daily Drabbles for 3/26/25 - 3/31/25
3/26/25 It was too late for me to be this hungry. I hated eating anything right before going to sleep, so I usually cut myself off from snacks about an hour before I was planning on heading up to bed. I'd ended up staying up later than I had planned though. And on top of that, I hadn't eaten much at dinner, so I was getting pretty hungry. I could have gotten myself a glass of milk, but that would mean going back downstairs after I had already turned off all the lights, and I really didn't feel like doing that.
3/27/25 Kerri carelessly peeled the wrapper off of her mini cupcake and shoved the whole thing in her mouth. It was mostly frosting, and way too sweet, but Kerri didn't mind. She'd just had a bunch of nachos and needed something sugary to counter all the salt. Kerri grabbed another mini cupcake and ate it. There were three different flavors of cupcake: chocolate, yellow, and something that tasted vaguely lemony. They all had different kinds of sprinkles as well. Colored sugar, little balls, and flat circles. Kerri's favorite of the three was the chocolate ones. She'd eaten five of them already.
3/28/25 Malcolm frowned at his cards. He knew she was bluffing, but his own hand was no good itself. The real question was which of them had the worst cards. Malcolm tapped the table as he thought it over. He looked up at her face but that was no help. She had a mildly amused look and blinked nonchalantly at him. Malcolm grunted and raised. Maybe his cards weren't better than hers, but he refused to back down. He wasn't going to let her bluff him into folding. Malcolm glanced at his cards again and had to fight off a wince.
3/29/25 Olive wanted some chocolate milk. She opened the pantry to look for the chocolate milk powder mix. She couldn't find anything except for the hot chocolate mix. Olive didn't want hot chocolate. She wanted it cold. This was disappointing. Olive opened the fridge and pulled out the milk. There was some chocolate syrup in the fridge. Olive grabbed that as well, but she wasn't excited about it. She preferred to use the powder. In her opinion the powder tasted better and mixed better with the milk than the syrup did. Olive guessed that the syrup would just have to do.
3/30/25 I traced my fingers over the books on the shelf. Dusty. Every last one of them. There was a thick line of dust on every shelf. I really needed to read more. It was particularly tempting to just grab a random book and sit down and start reading it, but this was not the time for it. I also needed to dust more and I was finally doing it now. I ran the duster over the tops of the books and the edge of the shelves. I even climbed up on a chair and dusted the top of the bookcase.
3/31/25 Ella swiped at her face, trying to wipe away the spider silk. It had warmed up enough that the spiders were all back at their web spinning and for some reason that entailed leaving a single strand stretched across the trail at exactly eye level. Ella had walked into several already. It was driving her crazy. Ella held her arm up in front of her face as she continued forward. It was annoying, but walking into spiderwebs every five feet was even more annoying. Ella needed to find a good stick to knock down the spiderwebs across the trail with.

Daily Drabbles for 3/21/25 - 3/25/25
3/21/25 Dumfrie needed a square. Normally Byar would suffice for the job, but Dumfrie actually needed to be productive. He had searched over his garage but the square wasn't anywhere obvious. Dumfrie knew he had one somewhere. He had used it many times on many projects. Not that Byar would know anything about that. Dumfrie didn't think Byar had ever set foot in the garage before. He was above such things. Well, Dumfrie wouldn't worry about him. He remembered where he had left his square and retrieved it from where it was sitting on top of the pile of wood scraps.
3/22/25 Sam raced across the hot sand to the relief of the cool ocean waves. There wasn't a cloud in the sky or a tree on the beach to offer any kind of shade from the bright sun. Sam had a feeling that the sand was hot enough to fry an egg on. Marsha had been smart and left her shoes on while she set up an umbrella and laid out towels to sit on. Sam would hang out in the water until she had finished. He felt bad about not helping her out. He'd do all the work cleaning up.
3/23/25 I chewed carefully on the cookie bar. I had already inhaled a couple of them and was halfway through my third. They were pretty good, the ratio of chocolate chips to peanut butter chips was perfect, but there was something off about them that I just couldn't put my finger on. There was another flavor in there that was holding the cookie back from perfection. I took another bite of the cookie. The texture wasn't quite right either. Overall, I liked it, but I didn't love it. Something was wrong. It was too… gritty. Ah. It had coconut. Of course.
3/24/25 I was flummoxed. I had no idea what to say to her. The conversation had eked along in spurts and sputters, but now I was truly out of anything to talk about. We had covered all the basic small talk topics. Traditional inquiries into each others lives had been made and answered. Beyond that, I couldn't think of a single thing to say. Not one topic of potential discussion came to my mind. It felt like the more I stressed out over not knowing what I should say the more blank my mind went. Truly, it had never been emptier.
3/25/25 Tina paused to look at the packets of seeds in front of the garden center. Spring was coming up and Tina had been wanting to try starting a garden this year. She just wasn't sure what was good for planting in her area. Tina would have to go online and do some research. She had never had much of a green thumb to begin with. She would need all the help she could get. Tina turned the little rotating display of seed packets from vegetables to the flowers. She wondered if those would be any easier to grow or harder.

Daily Drabbles for 3/16/25 - 3/20/25
3/16/25 Clancy made car noises with his mouth as he pushed his big, plastic dump truck through the sandbox. Gwen was sitting near him, also making car noises with her mouth as she galloped her toy horse across the sand. Clancy turned his dump truck towards Gwen's horse. Gwen made a screechy breaking sound as her horse came to a stop and turned to face the dump truck. Clancy revved his engines and so did Gwen. The horse and dump truck raced towards each other. They collided and Clancy made car crash noises as he flipped his truck into the air.
3/17/25 Ernie was having trouble getting the pickle jar open. He had already tried running hot water over it and banging the side of the lid against the counter. It was still firmly shut tight. Ernie used to have a little gripper pad he could use to get better traction on stuck lids, but that had ripped and been thrown out a long time ago. He didn't know why he hadn't replaced it. It had been so useful. Now he was trying to use his sleeve for the same purpose, but the fabric was too smooth for him to hold on.
3/18/25 Linus quickly wiped down the kitchen counter with a sopping wet sponge. He squeezed out the sponge in the sink and went over the counter again. He got most of it, but there were still some crumbs and wet smears on the counter. Linus grabbed the dish towel from where it was hanging on the oven handle and used it to dry the counter before using it dry his hands and then replacing it on the oven. Linus then returned to the sink and started washing the pots and pans. When they were clean he placed them on the counter.
3/19/25 Camilla yawned as she slipped her rubber boots on. There was a thin line of light on the horizon and the smell of dew in the air. Camilla grabbed her basket and pushed through the screen door out into the yard. She stomped briskly across the damp earth towards the chicken coup. The hens were all still sleeping when Camilla ducked inside. She moved quickly between them, collecting eggs as she went. She soon finished her task and departed the coup with a basket full of eggs. The hens had been busy, Camilla would have plenty of eggs to sell.
3/20/25 Clay strummed his guitar. One of the strings was out of tune, but he couldn't figure out which. He'd never had the best ear for that kind of thing. That didn't stop him from trying though. Clay thought he'd been coming along pretty well with his guitar lessons. He had learned several chords which he could switch between with confidence. His fingers had calloused up nicely. He could press the strings with the strength required to get a proper sound. His technical skill was steadily improving. Clay just needed to work on hearing how the music was supposed to sound.

Daily Drabbles for 3/11/25 - 3/15/25
3/11/25 Jacob wiggled the little piece of string on the edge of the bed. A paw shot up from the floor and batted at it before disappearing over the side again. Jacob pulled the string back and wiggled it more violently. The paw shot up again and reached for the string but couldn't reach. Jacob continued to make the string dance. Pepper jumped up on the bed to more easily bat at the string with both front paws. She sat up on her hind legs as Jacob raised the string in the air and waved it in front of her face.
3/12/25 Leon stubbed his toe on the dining room table. It took all his self control to not yell. Instead, he sucked in a breath between his teeth and then slowly exhaled it. His toe still throbbed, but he continued towards the kitchen. He trailed a hand over the backs of the chairs at the table to keep track of where it was. When Leon reached the other end of the table he warily kept his feet as far away from it as he could. Once clear of the table he confidently strode forward and stubbed his toe on the doorframe.
3/13/25 Amy kicked a rock down the dirt road she was walking along. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the tall grass was swaying serenely in the breeze, and so far Amy had yet to see anything particularly exciting. She figured she had traveled about as far from home as she could get and yet everything around her reminded her of where she had come from. It was deeply disappointing. Amy caught up with the rock she had kicked and kicked it again. This time it swerved off the road and into the weeds. Amy heaved a frustrated sigh.
3/14/25 Marcus slipped on the ice but managed to keep his balance. Most of the snow and ice had melted, but there were still a few patches here and there. Marcus had to be more careful about where he stepped. He hadn't really been thinking about it until he had almost fallen. All the melting had rendered the ground pretty muddy. Marcus would hate to fall on it and get his clothes all covered in mud. He wasn't thrilled about all the mud that had accumulated on his boots as it was. He'd have to rinse them off with the hose.
3/15/25 Margo chewed on her straw as she walked through the mall, staring in at shops she had no intention of entering. She only had ice left in her cup and was keeping an eye out for a trashcan to throw it away in. The mall was fairly deserted for the weekend. Hardly anyone shopped there anymore. Margo still liked to come by from time to time to browse and eat at the food court. They had the only Thai restaurant in town. Margo loved the spicy peanut noodles. She stopped at a trashcan and threw out her empty soda cup.

Daily Drabbles for 3/6/25 - 3/10/25
3/6/25 The snow was already starting to melt. It was nothing but a mushy mess under Bella's boots. She slipped a little as she trudged up the hill towards the mailboxes. Bella liked snow, but she had been enjoying the warmer weather they'd been having lately. She was ready to move into spring and this halfhearted attempt at a second winter was only going to end in a muddy mess. Bella hated the muddy interlude between winter and spring. No matter how hard she tried to keep it outside, sooner or later the mess always found its way into the house.
3/7/25 The toaster popped and Jean jumped again. It was always such a violent pop. Jean loved that stupid toaster. She gingerly removed the toast, shaking her burnt fingers as she dropped it on the plate. She buttered it quickly and then added more bread to the toaster. The coffee machine beeped at her so Jean turned her attention to it. The coffee was ready. Excellent. Jean had to hunt around the kitchen a bit before she found the mugs. She had just poured a second cup when Shay shambled in in a bathrobe. The toaster popped and they both jumped.
3/8/25 Kendall raised her camera back up to her eye, but the bird had already flown away. Kendall groaned in frustration. None of her pictures were coming out like she had hoped they would. They were all blurry and out of focus. Or else too zoomed out so the bird was small and hard to pick out amongst the branches. Kendall hadn't realized how difficult it would be to photograph birds. Maybe she needed a better camera. Or more patience. Or better birds to take pictures of. If they could hold still for a minute everything would be so much easier.
3/9/25 Violet doodled a flower in her notebook. Jayden was telling her a story, but Violet wasn't really paying attention. They had a few extra minutes before the lunch hour was over and they had to head off to their next class. Violet was sitting at a table outside with her notebook open, not really doing anything. Jayden was standing next to her and playing with a soccer ball she had found somewhere and talking to Violet. Apparently Jayden's brother had gotten into some kind of trouble with his friends. Violet nodded along as Jayden spoke, then she drew another flower.
3/10/25 I pretended to sip from the plastic teacup as Dotty mimed pouring tea for her stuffed cat, Jellybingus. Jellybingus stared ahead with blank, glossy eyes, her once white fur was stained and matted in several places. She had an elastic bead necklace looped tightly around her neck. I suspected it was originally meant to be a bracelet before Dotty had given it to the old cat. Dotty finished pouring Jellybingus's tea and sat down in her seat. I held my teacup out to Dotty and she clinked hers against mine with a little giggle. Jellybingus declined to join the clinking.

Daily Drabbles for 3/1/25 - 3/5/25
3/1/25 Willy shook the dice in his hand for far longer than he needed to before he rolled them across the table. He knocked over his game piece and a hotel before the dice stopped. They came up with a two and a three. Five. That was not good for Willy. Greta grinned evilly as Willy slowly advanced one space at a time. There was no way he could afford to pay rent on her property. Not even if he mortgaged all his properties. There was only one way out for him: Willy would have to sell Greta his green properties.
3/2/25 Vince groaned and held his head in his hands. He had heard that pressing his tongue to the roof of his mouth helped, but it didn't seem to be doing him any good. The blindingly sharp pain in his head wasn't going away. Beside Vince, Gary was still chugging his milkshake. He'd already drained half of it whereas Vince had hardly started on his. It was inhuman really. Vince couldn't understand how Gary wasn't in as much pain as he was. By the time Vince's headache had faded enough for him to return to his shake, Gary was finishing his.
3/3/25 Rae laid on her back in the tall grass. She had her ankles crossed and her hands laced together under her head. There was a light breeze swaying the grass back and forth. The sun was bright and warm. The sky was mostly blue save for a handful of large fluffy, white clouds that slowly rolled by overhead. Their form subtly changing as they moved. Rae watched them float along, looking for familiar shapes. She imagined birds, hats, great ships sailing the skies. She even saw one that looked like a girl lying on her back and watching the clouds.
3/4/25 Bob swished the mop around on the floor without much regard for getting it clean. It was far too early in the morning to be thinking about such things. Bob yawned and leaned against the mop handle for a moment before dunking it in the water bucket and then immediately pulling it out again and slopping it on the floor. Bob spread the water around for a little bit before moving on to a new spot of floor. The lobby wasn't too big, so it didn't take Bob long to coat all of it in a thin layer of water.
3/5/25 Phil jumped when the oven started beeping at him. It was only telling him that it was preheated finally. Phil was still rearranging the pepperonis on the frozen pizza. He finished up and then gingerly placed the pizza on the center rack in the oven before closing it. Phil set the timer and then turned away from it to gather up the cardboard box the pizza had come in and the plastic it had been wrapped in to throw it away in the trash. Phil pulled a pizza pan out and set it on the counter next to the oven.

Daily Drabbles for 2/26/25 - 2/28/25
2/26/25 Patty jumped up and down in front of Mike to get his attention. The sun was starting to set and they needed to build a shelter before it got dark. Mike was busy slaughtering a bunch of chickens they'd stumbled into. Patty's inventory was full of feathers and eggs. Mike turned away from the chickens to watch Patty jumping. Once he was looking at her, Patty pulled out a stack of wood and started to outline a small building. Mike added his own wood to Patty's outline. It wasn't much of a house, but it would do for the night.
2/27/25 Whitney actually enjoyed folding laundry. It wasn't her favorite thing, but she felt it had its charms. She liked the fresh, clean smell of clothing right out of the dryer. And there was something very satisfying about taking a pile of disorganized fabric and sorting it into neat little piles of clothes, ready to be put away. Whitney liked to watch videos on her computer while she folded shirts. She cleared a space on her desk to set the shirts once folded, and had the unfolded ones in a pile on her lap. She could just watch YouTube and fold.
2/28/25 The bell on the door jingled merrily as Elizabeth entered the shop, reminding her of all the times she had heard it over the years. She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply the sweet perfume of the slightly musty, old books that filled the shelves. Elizabeth hardly had any time to savor the serenity of the bookstore before the bell jingled again. Far more frantically this time as the door was slammed open with a bang that destroyed the peaceful atmosphere inside. Elizabeth heaved a sigh and turned back towards the door. Alexander had followed her into the building.

Daily Drabbles for 2/16/25 - 2/20/25
2/16/25 Kate carefully examined the wiring in Robbie's control panel. Everything was as it should be. All wired up correctly with no loose connections. All the components had been installed properly. If Robbie was having problems, it was not a hardware issue. Kate had known that from the start, but she couldn't just say that. She had to check and double check and show all her work before Lenny would ever consider that maybe the problem was in the programming. Kate had known all along that they were having software issues, but that wasn't her area so Lenny had dismissed her.
2/17/25 Paige rested her head in her hand as she stared blandly at her computer screen. She had spent the past hour looking for new recipes. Between all the ads and personal life stories, Paige had yet to find anything that looked like it would be good for dinner. Her problem was that she kept giving up before she got to the actual recipe part of the recipe. One time she had found a list of ingredients that didn't seem to have any instructions to go with them. Paige finally gave up and closed her browser. She would just order out.
2/18/25 Jess winced as she tried to put weight on her right foot. She'd rolled her ankle when she slipped while running down the hill. Jess leaned against a tree and lifted up the hem of her pant leg to look at her ankle. She couldn't see anything wrong with it. Jess ran her hand over her ankle, it was tender, but didn't hurt too bad. She hoped she hadn't sprained it. Maybe it was just bruised. Jess slid to the ground and stretched her legs out in front of her. She'd rest for a minute and then try walking again.
2/19/25 Gabi switched the microphone to her left hand while she grabbed her water bottle with her right for a quick sip. She could tell that her voice was starting to go a little, but no one else wanted to sing and Gabi was happy to keep doing it just to keep playing with everyone. Drew and Scott were taking turns on the guitar and Danny was going ham on the drums. They all played pretty well together. They'd worked their way through all of their favorite songs and were now trying to master the most difficult ones. It was fun.
2/20/25 Naomi rapidly peeled carrots while she listened to the TV in the other room. If she wanted to have dinner at a reasonable time she needed to get the carrots and celery in the soup pot and cooking. And if she didn't want to miss the end of the episode, she needed to get it done fast. Naomi had asked Charlie to turn up the volume, but she was still having a hard time hearing what the characters were saying. She was only catching about half of the conversations. Still, she had a general idea what was happening, at least.

Daily Drabbles for 2/11/25 - 2/15/25
2/11/25 Chloe knew exactly what she was doing. She had made pancakes many times before. If Carl would just trust her and let her work then everything would be fine. The problem was that Carl was certain he knew more than her about making pancakes and needed to help Chloe at every step of the process or everything would go horribly wrong. Chloe kept having to shoo him out of the way or stop him from trying to flip the pancakes too soon. Carl claimed she was going to burn them. Chloe just preferred her pancakes cooked all the way through.
2/12/25 Lisa could smell dinner cooking downstairs. It smelled like chicken soup. Her stomach growled in anticipation of the meal. But it wasn't time to eat yet, dinner would likely still take a little while to finish and Lisa would need that time to finish up her own work. She knew she wouldn't have time to get back to it after dinner, and she hated to leave in the middle of things. Lisa was almost to the end of the level anyway. She just needed to find the key to the big door and then she'd be at the boss fight.
2/13/25 Mandi slowly slid her hand across the couch towards Pickles. The cat ignored her and continued to sleep curled up in a ball against the armrest. Mandi scooted over to the cushion next to Pickles and waited. Her eyes remained shut. Mandi gently ran a finger over Pickle's fluffy tail. The cat flicked it, but otherwise remained still. Mandi slipped her fingers into Pickle's thick white hair, pushing forward till she reached her side, burying her fingers in fur. Now Pickles opened one eye. Mandi wiggled her fingers in a tap dance on Pickle's body. Pickles jumped off the couch.
2/14/25 Florence needed to take a break. She'd only been jogging for ten minutes and she was already wiped out. She stopped in the middle of the trail and doubled over while she tried to catch her breath. Her heart pounded in her chest. It was freezing cold out, but Florence had worked up a sweat. She unzipped removed her gloves and unzipped her coat to let the cold air cool her off. She was starting to think she might have overdressed a little for her jog. Next time she would have to remember to wear fewer layers to jog in.
2/15/25 Gigi knocked over a bottle of shampoo as she dug around in the cupboard under the sink. She was looking for hand lotion, but so far the bathroom had none on offer. Gigi picked up the shampoo bottle. It was a half-empty 2-in-1 that they'd had sitting around for years. Gigi couldn't even remember when or why they had gotten it. Especially since Gigi hated using 2-in-1. It just didn't work as well on her hair as regular conditioner. And her hair really needed conditioner if she wanted to have any hope of combing it out. Gigi tossed the shampoo.
