I've finally got the 3rd and last Deadendia book today!
So no more avoiding reading any more posts about any information about the plot of the final story on any social-media platforms to evade any more spoilers for the future. 😁
Unpopular opinion: a lot of series just… don’t need more media made for them
I’ve seen a lot of people say things like “when is portal 3”, “when is the next season of gravity falls?” “Is more petscop content coming?”
Beloved series like the three I’ve used as examples have been “collecting dust” because of the lack of updates. I feel like Gravity Falls had an amazing ending, with none of the episodes ruining the aesthetic of the series. The current rules and guidelines for popular media and video sharing would RUIN the series. If we ask the creators to pump out more media even if they have felt like it was completed, it will feel meaningless and unnecessary. We will end up with another Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans or How To Train Your Dragon: Nine Realms. I completely agree that some series absolutely need more to it, Dead End: Paranormal Park was cancelled before they could finish the clearly hinted to season 3, but the creator is still working on the comics. Scorn needs more work implementing art and story (however it is still a wonderful experience). This isn’t really “be happy with what you have” but instead it’s “be happy about the dedication of the creators” or some shit like that. Maybe you’ll just hate me for saying this. I don’t care. I am using the anonymity of the internet to express what people don’t want to listen to me rant on hours about in hopes that maybe someone would want to read my stupid writing
I have held onto this news for a while now, hoping that we could reverse it, change it, make something good out of it. But sadly I don’t think that’s possible right now.
It’s with a heavy heart that I tell you Dead End is over.
Obviously, we never wanted this to be the case. In fact, we did a writers room for Season 3. We have scripts and designs and outlines ready to go. It was always the plan to give these characters the proper ending they deserve. But sadly, the powers that be don’t want any more.
Honestly, we were lucky to make it through everything happening in the last few years. And I want to emphasize my gratitude to Netflix for commissioning the show and for giving us the freedom to tell this story. We made history together and I couldn’t be prouder of those twenty episodes and every single member of our crew.
I want to give a huge thank you to the fans. Your art, cosplay, fic, reactions, TikToks and every interaction with me has been a delight. I never could have dreamed of a warmer response. I’ve been so anxious to post this news thinking about you lot. I hope you’ll be ok.
So… a sad day. But I believe we will finish this story some day, some how. For now, I am working hard on the third and final DeadEndia book which I hope offers some closure. Our Season 3 plan was based heavily on it. And I continue to pitch shows with the same heart as Dead End.
But until then, I hope Barney, Norma, Pugsley, Courtney and the whole Phoenix Parks crew will continue to give you comfort in times of darkness.
honestly book 3 and the deadendia comics in general sucking ass isnt really going to impact my relationship with courtney at all since my f/o is the courtney from dead end paranormal park and always has been
I feel like Deadendia took a lot of the things SVTFOE failed at and did them better.
Particularly the ending where all magic is destroyed and the worlds combine. For one, no one needs magic to survive in this world, so they're not killing anyone, but they're also rewriting the timeline, so society isn't suddenly being uprooted. It's also clearly shown that the current cosmic order is inherently oppressive to demons, the planes system was designed to oppress them, and the existence of magic is linked to that. Also, with the exception of Earth and Mewni, all dimensions were permanently separated in SVTFOE, the ending didn't create unity, it caused even more division, Earth and Mewni were accidents. Deadendia gave us an ending where everyone got to be together.
Secondly, the love triangle between Norma, Badyah, and Zagan was more satisfying. Marco never really got the chance to consider Star's crush before she got with Tom, so it just felt like bad timing, unearned drama. That's not the case with Badyah, she actually turned down Norma, and could've changed her mind at any point in book 2. That made her jealousy in book 3 more interesting to watch, because it's not just bad luck, it's the consequences of a decision she regrets. She also took action on her crush, declaring her feelings once she was sure she did want to be with Norma. Zagan was also more self aware than Tom, she could see the writing on the wall, and amicably broke up with Norma after seeing them kiss.
The ending also specifically confronts the one who created and rules this system, not just some individual prejudiced person. This story even points out how that's counterproductive.
