A change the ROTK movie made from the source material that I really like is that Theoden actually speaks his last words to Eowyn and gets to see what she accomplished!!
#in the book she is badly hurt and falls down so his last few words are for merry and then a moment#later for eomer whom he names king (obviously) and HEARTBREAKING he keeps asking/wondering about eowyn :(#I'm just very glad eowyn and theoden had that one last moment together in the movies#i do like that eomer gets to speak to theoden and then he sees how eowyn has fallen and he is just. furious. and in absolute despair#like he was leading those men to an almost impossible battle but it needed to be done. but after theoden and Eowyn? he's leading them to#death. they're fighting for a rightful and glorious death. it contrats nicely with denethor's self destructive desperation#laura reads lotr
