the best way to prevent information being extracted from an image is to not have an image of it in the first place. the second best way to prevent information being extracted from an image is to have it fully covered by anything opaque.

also, for stuff taken on your camera, get one of those tools that deletes exif data (metadata that contains stuff like date/time, camera/phone model, and possibly even your location when taking the picture)

When censoring information out of pictures, do NOT use the marker tool. Block it out with a full filled in square, or use a mosiac filter. Marker tools are not fully opaque and are slightly off from black, which makes it possible to alter the levels and reveal the information underneath.

All Jpeg-XL files will be scanned for a bunch of metadata like 'has transparency' and 'has exif'. If you have any weirdly rotated JXLs, they should fix themselves soon after update.

I fixed a couple bugs with the recent drag-cancel tech, which stops some weird drag states occuring. The test was firing falsely when dragging thumbnails very quickly outside the window, and it was throwing some errors when kicking in on macOS.

Export folders handle sidecars a little better. Missing sidecars are filled in on every run, and if you have a 'synchronise' export folder, it is more careful about not deleting existing sidecars.

next week

I moved the duplicates auto-resolution system forward this week, and it is now pretty much all in place. The database module and daemon are live--but as-yet unpopulated. I now just have to overcome one more difficult hump, a nice preview panel so we can see the impact of a pending auto-resolution rule, and then we'll be ready for final integration and testing and letting advanced users try it out.

I had an ok week. There's a mix of bug fixes and a couple of neat improvements.

First off, the filetype selector, which you'll see in 'system:filetype' and any File Import Options, is completely rewritten to a checkbox tree. It is easier to work with than the old expanding panels system and scrolls smoothly when it gets internally tall. I've been worried about adding more filetype support for a while because of how busy this widget was getting, but this will relieve things.

Also, the 'applications' group is now split up. All the archives like zip and rar are now in 'archives', and all the xcf, psd, and krita formats are in 'image project files'. It doesn't matter much yet, but these groups also exist as separate rows in the viewing settings under _options->media_.

Secondly, I have figured out a 'fast delete' method for very large database objects. Deleting the PTR is now an instant operation! Unfortunately, under the hood this is really just a deferred delete, so the object still uses its hard drive space until it is deleted later in the background in pieces. Unfortunately x2 is that I haven't written the maintenance job that does the delete yet, lol, so if you need to delete some service or do a large database regenerate job, please bear with the bloat for a week.

If you updated last week, jumping up several versions at once, and got a popup that some EXIF scanning update did not work, don't worry. I fixed the problem, and nothing important was actually broken anyway. Thanks for the reports!
